Pioneer Spec-1 & Spec-4. A later 70’s quality and power demonstration.
Siste...
Testing the Nessie Record cleaning machine. Sound comparison of an old vinyl never cleaned before

Sound of Open Reel tape. Comparison with vinyl
มุมมอง 59K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
The source for recording the open reel tape was a vinyl. In this case I used one of my favourite highest quality record vinyl pressing. It was cut at half speed mastering by the Abbey Road studios. I think that both are the best quality sound we can find. Why compare two devices with such different prices? Accuphase E 280 (or at least the E380) would have been a fairer comparison! second point: One is 2x160W class AB the other one 2x30W class A (8ohms). The result is not a mystery, normally you get better bass control with the AB and a more warm/open medium with the class A, and you must choose the most effective HP for each case (this one have a 30cm boomer). So doing a compair of 2 very différents amps will give a different result if you change HP.

I hear much more of the natural room reverb on the Technics, especially that sax...wow. Even thought the Regas look way cooler, I'm just a direct drive fan. I will say that the Regas sound much better than other belt drives I've heard (to my ears):) Probably has to do with the smaller, higher spec belt bands they use.

i have a accuphase amplification system from the 70´s it was in my father colection, but i´m thinking in conecting it again soon it always was a brand that one could trust in, today i found them expensive and there is always the after 1979 and before ,including where all brands changed their sound quality ,any 70´s amplifier or receiver if in condition will always sound better, just try a sansui bought in 1979 and then try one bought as a new model in 1980 or later it´s a huge diference in quality , and i tried sansui because it weren´t yet made of plastic but the sound was incredible bad compared to what we were used to, today expensive so to speak amplifiers with great feedback sound like garbage to me, they sound ok but if i´m listening before a 70´s equipment one feels dificult to find a 90´s good integrated amplifier ,good but it´s a matter of not using first the 70´s equipment as i also due to older speakers haven´t yet be restored they sound worst than good new ones, but after having their drivers or electronic system inside restored or the parts substituted it makes them sound perfect as when they were new, but where i live there is no technician ,in the past there were really good electronic engeniers that as a hobby they repaired hi-fi components but today they are very old and can´t work and others are already gone and the most close repair shop is 400km´s away, the reason why not all my colection and my father´s aren´t yet restored has he passed away three years ago and all that he had came to me as none of my brothers wanted old garbage as they say, only me have interest in music as i see in old footage made in 8mm film me with almost 4 years old trying to sing and play in a kids guitar with steel strings the songs i heard on the radio ,yet to be prohibited as in the 60´s children toys were not reviewed if dangerous of any kind to less than 4 year old children but i didn´t cut the neck of any of my younger brothers and sister with a steel string or even try to break the wooden guitar on their heads who i still remenber it to be heavy

I was around in 1985. I remember reading in a hifi magazine about the upcoming Dire Straits album, Brothers In Arms. It was being recorded completely digitally and created a buzz of anticipation regarding what it would sound like. You might want to do another demo on Love Over Gold from 1982, which was recorded on lossless analogue tape. Good video all the same. My young daughter wanted to know about “those black discs with music on them.”!

tape will always sound fuller and a more comfortable listening experience than vinyl, the warmer bass and mid range fill out the sound and the treble is slightly rolled off making the sound even warmer, if i could afford it i would buy a reel to reel !

Some older pressings contain all of the Steve Albini original mixes rather that the Scott Litt Heart-Shaped Box and All Apologies mixes from the original release. This could account for the drastic differences. It's hard to tell which could be which in this video though. My 2009 Canadian pressing is all the original Steve Albini mixes, no Scott Litt mixes. Nice set up!

YOU are NOT comparing the sound of vinyl vs tape. You are comparing vinyl with the sound of the tape machine RECORDING VINYL. There should be absolutely NO difference in the sound if the tape machine is properly calibrated to the tape being used. If there is any difference , the machine needs work.

here on youtube i can´t hear no diference maybe live and i do have some JBl´s that are amazing good but this two models aren´t any of them, allthough they should sound very good , i have some very similar to the first model but much bigger ,it were the monitors in second half of the 70´s from my father recording studio , now i have them with a C1 and B1 pre and amplifier from yamaha, but also use some phase linear power amp by Carver with pre from series two this with a 90´s thorens turntable the TD2001 ,pioneer cd player PD-9700 ,reel deck RT-707 from pioneer, but i´m always changing components i do notice a incredible diference in volume or much lower sound amongst other things from new to older cartridges of the same quality

i was using the spec-1 and spec-2 with 4 HPM-150 in a 50 square meters room as source i have a cd player the CEC belt-driven from the 90´s but still sold today and a PLC-590 with a AT tonearm and a 70´s AT cartridge mc type, now i have changed to two monoblocks M6 and a C3 controll amplifier with a all original P3 turntable and a cd player from magnat released in 2016 ,i think tube pre-amplified , i prefer the sound of the exclusive system ,i almost forget, i´m using two twin 2401 speakers also from exclusive pioneer all was recentelly restored to original specifications also have in use a studer open reel deck four track recording in stereo and before i was using a 77 B series from revox, both this systems by pioneer sound perfect, today is very expensive and maybe not that good in sound quality to match this systems and i have more but this was what is refered in the video, i colect hi-fi components also this year had conected a C1 yamaha control amplifier with a B1 amplifier with some JBL studio monitors similar the 2401 twin speakers or built by the same engenier that were in my home studio built in 1970 by my father and improved as it was possible to do so, the spec-4 i never heard one but i think it´s the same sound of the spec-2 ,one can´t find better ,only equal

The tape is going to sound better as the vinyl's EQ doesn't capture all the frequencies that the tape can .... this is a limitation of RIAA and the recording media i.e grooves on the record .... you don't get these issues with tape and recordings have better fidelity .... thats why tape is still the best format any pre-recorded tape will sound better that it's equivalent record

Prerecorded tapes by the old great engineers of the time are often impeccable. But so were the records of the day. It goes back and forth.....ridiculous to pit them against each other or make absolute statements because it 'depends' on the recorded media and your subjective hearing opinions.

Listening with a Focal Stellia. No difference for me in a blind test, the only worthy one. So much difference between two pairs of speakers. So few between 2 amplifiers of the same category. So Atoll for those who choose with one ear on the music and one eye on their bank accounts. Accuphase for those who prestige is part of the pleasure.
