Yeah, its a bit of a bugger, especially when Pinion is a German company, Vorsprung durch Technik and all that but hey, its under warranty and I'm lucky to have Geometron 40mins down the road and I'll be dropping it off their tomorrow after Nicolai got back and said it will more likely be a motor swop once the diagnostics have been done and sent off to Pinion. At least it happened when the weather is crap 👍😂

​@@OldNorthern_eMTBerwell the myth that the Germans build reliable things is alive and kicking, however they realised decades ago there's not much money in building reliable things, hence why their modern cars fall to bits easily, if you want reliability you go Japanese ☺️

Its not that bad once you get going, just the initial OMG its cold 😫 There'll be no electrical wires in my gloves, that's far too much faff. I'll just tough it out and moan until the wee pinkies get warm 😂

@ I’ve got the Saturn, went over in September to pick it up. Had another issue with the Fit display unit which failed but Geometron had the equipment to sort that out.

@@JamesNixon-z9i Ah, right, OK, good to know that Geometron can sort things. I'm hoping I will get a reply next week once they are both back, Nicolai and Geo. How long from reporting the motor issue to it being replaced did it take? Did you have to travel far to get to Geo?

@ Nicolai sent the replacement motor out direct for me to install, it was about 10 days turn around. They were really good to be fair and the motor is dead easy to replace. The display was a nightmare, took a while to sort out as Geometron weren’t geared up at the time so had to wait a few weeks to get that sorted which is like years when you’re without a bike lol…. I’m based in Lancashire so it was about 3.5hrs drive to Geo for me.

@@JamesNixon-z9i Interesting they asked you to replace the motor and not Geo to keep the warranty up to date. Hopefully Geo are now up to speed with things and lucky they are only 40 mins away. I'm from Lancashire too, Kirkham.

And the same to you Dafydd. FoD of Dean is well worth a trip, loads of marked trails plus even more off-piste stuff which requires someone with proper local knowledge to show you where they are.

@@OldNorthern_eMTBer What about Looking for water in any Plugs ? I Worked on Honda Engines that Had ECU Driven Gearboxes and if Any Water Got in a Contact it Can Cause the Gearbox to Not Work. You Did Spray It all With a Hosepipe The Other Week 🙂I Am Wanting Your Bike getting Fixing ASAP and i Hope its somthing Simple as its somthing i am Looking at getting. New Tech Can Take a While to Find Problems in the Field So to Say.

@TucanoT1 It was a dry day and bikes need to be washed. Im sure Pinion tested the mgu against low pressure water ingress

@@OldNorthern_eMTBer Looks like it will need connecting uptown the Fit system, and the data logs downloading and then sending off to Pinion. Im wondering if it is one of the batch of motors that need a recall ! Mine had to be replaced due to an electronic component failure. The only real problem I see with the pinion is that we cannot replace or repair anything ourselves, if they done open the stem up to self repair, they won't be getting anymore of my business,. A shame because I really like the system .

@@OldNorthern_eMTBer I Was Thinking of Buying One and Now I Am Waiting To See Whats Wrong With Yours as i Already Tried a Reise and Muller With a 14 Speed Rohloff hub and bosch and Due to that weighing 29.5kg and crunching Some gear changes i returned it to the shop and bought a Orbea rise h,Then i keep thinking how belt drive is better and then gears in the motor,I used to think mountain biking was not a dear past time if i had not done 14,000 miles offroad my knee might not hurt

@@TucanoTMK1 The issue happened at a bad time, Christmas and NY. I've sent an email off to Nicolai with all the details plus video clips of the motor making the noise etc so its just a case of waiting for them to get back to work. I'll keep the channel up dated as and when 👍 Belt drive is the future, even the Atherton's are going Pinion gearbox on their race downhill bike for 2025. Its supposed to be hush hush but its its all over the internet.

@@OldNorthern_eMTBer Did You Knock the Motor Case on a Rock When you Fell off or hit Both Trigger shifters ? Might be water in a Connection as there is a lot were You use it Its Sam at Geometron ,Have a Look at his Demo MGU He Built and Let me Know what its like if you Go there.

@@TucanoTMK1 Yeah, Sam, I've been emailing him about some other stuff. I don't need to see the bike, I have one and they are great albeit a minor issue. Can you ask him to send you some pics? Guessing you are not close to Monmouth then? Nothing got knocked as is was a bit of a slow comedy 'off' and the weather was good, no rain etc.

@@MrBikemadevs Hi Steve, good to meet you and Steve yesterday. Yeah, some great riding to be had around on the Begwyns. I parked by Hergest ridge then head up and over to Gladestry then off into it. Definitely a summer job because it's proper gloopy when it's wet 😖

@mtbmatestrailsbanter Hi, there is noise and yes, the camera does pick it up. The noise doesn't bother me, I'm more about the lack of chain, cassette and derailleur issues 👌

@@ceriway380 March 31st the actually centre closes, cafe, shop and bike shop but the trails will always stay open. Hopefully someone will pick it up and reopen them after that 🤞

Funny enough I had a B M W K75c cost me £61 fully comp it went up last year to 70 quid , but I downsized to a Royal Enfield 350cc Meteor, that came in at £236 , Insurance seems to be all over the place at the moment .

Not tried the auto shift yet but it shouldn't make any difference being on or off road.

Its a bit of a thing with me, saying I'm at places named after things. When I'm down around Marlborough, I sometimes head for small places called 'Cattle Grid' 🙄 Where is this footpath and fork you speak of?

@@OldNorthern_eMTBer Follow Ffordd Du past the point that you turned left, around a down hill 90degree bend and than it’s on the right, follow to the end, turn right on white road into Llwyngwril and back out following the West Coast Path (wide double track and then tarmac)

@@OldNorthern_eMTBer a little further along the Ffordd Du track on the right after your turn left. Follow to minor road down into and out of Llywngwril on the West Coast Path to the top of the cheeky climb. Also good to meet earlier today at Cwmcarn!

I know, it would have been seen as an instrument of Satan him/herself or whatever pronoun he/she/it was using at the time! Nice to put the bike away at the end of a ride and not worry about cleaning the chain and stuff and then just hop on it and go the next day 👌 Also nice not to have the worries of damage when out riding 🙏 It's the future mate 💪

Not sure how many miles I've done so far but I like the MGU and belt drive system. Still getting used to the system but compared to chains its way better, no worries about branches or rocks damaging it 👌

Not sure who is responsible for the upkeep of the paths? It's a big job that won't feature too high on the 'to do' list due to cost. Makes for interesting riding though 😁👍

I think you are one of the lucky ones, either tgat or yiu don't take them anywhere too dodgy 😂 MGU is the way forward for sure, we'll, I think so anyway 👌👍

I'd say the Llanberis path up, Ranger down. There woukd be a lot of pushing up the Ranger path compared to the Llanberis path.

@@OldNorthern_eMTBer , I hope to collect my Nicolai Saturn 16 MGU from Geometron Bikes in Monmouth in 10 weeks. I don't think I will attempt Snowdon, but I will spend a few days cycling in the Forest of Dean, as I did when test-riding the Saturn 16 on 3 and 4 Dec.

Defo, a really good one to do whatever the weather 👍
