29 Palms
So, here’s something a bit different, I thought I’d add some visuals; break up the boredom of an old dude just grooving a beat. As a commercial photographer, I loved shooting in the desert, always some magic, and this song, 29 Palms, resonated that desert feeling. Robert Plant released this back in 1993 and it’s been one of my very favorite anthems since, it is a bit spiritual for me. I love playing drums. With all my heart, I love my wife. I truly love my life. ❤🥁🎸🎹🎼🎧🎤☮️🎶

Plan A
มุมมอง 3921 วันที่ผ่านมา
Although this was released in 2003, on the album Welcome to the Monkey House, one of the best albums The Dandy Warhols (a great creative band from Portland, Oregon) ever released, it is still fitting to this day. Plan A generated a lot of debate as to its meaning, but I find it all too obvious, especially after the most recent election, we care more about what’s in our pockets than we do about ...
Seven Nation Army

Whenever Christmas rolls around, and I'm in that great holiday spirit, this Christmas classic comes to mind, Seven Nation Army.😁 This isn't the warm Mariah Carey version of The White Stripes manger magic, but it rings in the jolly old, ho ho ho, spirit. Ben l'Oncle Soul puts some yuletide vibe into this classic, I'm sure it makes Jack Frost, I mean White, beam with cheer. Merry Christmas everyo...
Travelin' Light

Love me some JJ Cale, an influential American songwriter with a serious low profile, his music touched the spirit of thousands of other artists. Although I’ve many JJ Cale favorite songs, this tune, Travelin’ Light, just moves me, makes the groove happen. Rest in musical bliss Mr. Cale. I love playing drums. With all my heart, I love my wife. I truly love my life. ❤🥁🎸🎹🎼🎧🎤☮️🎶
Blood LIke Lemonade

Morcheeba, what an exotic, erotic, sexy sound, sultry and deep. I’ve been a fan since the ‘90s, a friend turned me onto them right after she’d visited London, I’ve followed them since. This tune, Blood Like Lemonade, a vampire seeking revenge for the killing of his wife, becomes a bit of a horror story in a song, but relative to life metaphorically. I love playing drums. With all my heart, I lo...
Wish I Knew You

This is a great little ditty, Wish I knew You, from 2015, by a modern group out of New Orleans, The Revivalists. The groove on this song just grabbed me and I couldn’t not cover it, simple to play, yes, but a sweet groove, the complexity completely in the emotional output. It’s a great drive with a true backbeat and powerful kick drum. I love playing drums. With all my heart, I love my wife. I ...
Strange Little Girl

A couple decades ago, while I was an ambitious and adventurous fashion/glamour photographer, I heard this song -Strange Little Girl, by The Stranglers- and imagined an image of a young woman dragging her burdens behind her. This tune has always been one of my very favorites, strong images of what I, along with the incredible model, Valerie Whitaker, shot on a dry lakebed on a very hot day in Ne...

The greatness of Tom Petty, one of the great talents that never quit producing a ton of music. I wish I'd have seen him live, unfortunately, it never happened...and I'm not sure why. There are a bunch of his tunes I'd love to cover, and a few I will, but I'll start here with a story that resonates with so many of us as our professions are influenced by big business and technology. I love playin...
Right Down the Line

Back in 1978 I was driving around in the rain when I first heard this tune, along with Baker Street, becoming an immediate fan of Gerry Rafferty. His career was short, but his songs never left my heart. Now, forty five years later, my wife fills my heart and mind each time I hear or drum to this song; It's her. I love playing drums. With all my heart, I love my wife. I truly love my life. ❤🥁🎸🎹🎼...
The High Road

There are two lines from this song grabbed me and held on; "And I don't know if the dead can talk... To anyone' and 'It's too late to change your mind... You let loss be your guide" - Those lyrics as well as the groove itself, generate an energy to let the song’s dynamics manage themselves. Again, a less is more approach, just having fun deep in a drum groove. The song (which I've modified slig...
Fooled Around and Fell in Love

I saw this man at Winterland in the early '70s, one of my favorite artists with an incredible laid back style, he was just comfort on stage and a joy to see live. Love Elvin Bishop, love this song, The brilliant Mickey Thomas vocal, what's not to love. I so enjoy playing the music of my youth. I love playing drums. I deeply love my wife. I truly love my life.❤🥁🎸🎹🎼🎧🎤☮️🎶
All Along The Watchtower

The laid back groove style I seem to have fits this version of Bob Dylan’s, All Along The Watchtower, by Taj Mahal, to a tee. I know this song has been covered a thousand plus times, but I love this rendition, it just works for me; Taj Mahal works for me, an incredible artist. I love playing drums. I deeply love my wife. I truly love my life.❤🥁🎸🎹🎼🎧🎤☮️🎶
The Bones of an Idol

Another favorite modern group, The New Pornographers, made of some incredible talent. This tune, The Bones of an Idol, isn't that complex, it's simply a great groove I love playing to. The basic back beat, a micro-slight drag, makes it a sticker, that tune just won't leave the brain. I love playing drums. I deeply love my wife. I truly love my life.❤🥁🎸🎹🎼🎧🎤☮️🎶
The Last High

The Dandy Warhols’ The Last High, from the album Welcome to the Monkey House, one of my favorite collections from this great band. There are several tunes on this record that speak directly to the listener, as does this great reveal of how hard it is to be in a successful band, living on the road, but trying to have a life too. I love playing drums. I deeply love my wife. I truly love my life.❤...

Good playing. My favorite song of his (I wouldeven say including Roxy). Quintessential Ferry, almost to an ironic level. The line "I thought you'd be my streetcar named desire" is impossible in the best possible way. Love it.

The song is unquestionably one of the icons of his career. I too am a life long fan of Roxy, but Ferry is exceptional. Saw him live a few years back, a lifetime bucket-list treat.

It warms my heart to see Robert and Hayden making music together after so many years. I wasn't there when they hit the scene like a rocket back in the 60s as "Just Slightly Richer" (aka The Intones), but I'm so glad I've got a ticket to ride along now. I've watched & listened for the past several months as they have worked to perfect this song (from opposite ends of the state) and now this great video that really brings the story of this song to life! Hayden and Robert are the real deal.
