Patch Notes:
FIXES
Fix some HUD not being hidden by `Hide HUD`,
Fix RingVariant's not spawning near Sonic's screen position,
Fix MotobugControl Null Refs,
STYLE GAUGE/STYLISH ACTIONS
Add AirTrick Sound that plays when Sonic hasn't yet filled the Style Gauge,
Adjust Style Points awarded by continuous Stylish Actions,
Make it so the IndefinteBoostCooldownTimer will only reset when Sonic is on the ground, thereby allowing Sonic to maintain Max Style while in Mid-air,
Dropped Rings no longer Award Style points upon being recollected,
NEW PARTICLE FX and Sound
Add particle FX to indicate when Max Speed is increased,
Implement Ring Attraction where collecting enough Rings will increase Sonic's Ring Attraction which is now indicated by a blue lightning particle FX and sound,
Add RingThrow Sound,
NEW MECHANICS
Sonic now Ragdolls upon impact,
Add TriggerObjectiveOnConfirmation.cs so Objectives can be opted into (such as the Race across the Island Objective in Wuhu Island),
Add a way to Leave/Select Objectives via the pause menu,
Implement RPGStats i.e. Strength, Stamina, Speed, and Style
Add Results Screen UI and sounds. Rank is calculated based on how many quotas Sonic fulfils
i.e.
- freeing enough animals
- getting enough rings
- finishing quickly
- scoring enough points
- (plus a perfect bonus awarded for not dying)
The XP is awarded to the Strength, Stamina, Speed, and Style stats based on how much Sonic's performance exceeds these quotas.
Add an "Animals freed" Counter,
Implement a way to skip dialogue by clicking R-Stick Down,
Add Shop Items to Ventus in Wuhi Island, some of which can be bought to maintain Sonic's stats,

      I'm currently reworking the penalty for when Sonic doesn't eat for too long. On the one hand, it seemed to make sense that starving should make his rings deplete over time but in practise, the player gets stuck in a loop of never getting enough rings to buy food. More will be revealed in a future update (probably)

      @@lexo632 Yeah, ngl - adding features and new mechanics this month has been one of the more fun things to do compared to some other game dev things but I have also been meaning implement these RPG mechanics for some time. That is, these RPG mechanics aim to support the Tertiary gameplay loop of playing and replaying objectives. Clearing objectives earns Sonic XP. Earn enough XP and the stat will level up, which in turn can make earning more XP from playing/replaying levels even easier. That being said, I think I'm still looking to tweak how maintaining stats works where you need to ensure you fulfil Sonic's needs outside of missions or else face consequences that make the game much more difficult.

    Frankly speaking, in this project boost and momentum are perfectly combined, that is, first you need to make full use of physics and the environment: keep the speed at the desired value to score points, run along walls and on water, and only then be content with the boost. The job was really well done.

      @@Spiritclaw256 It's possible but Silver is going to take some more time and energy to get working properly since the way I imagine he would play would be much more distinct than Sonic or Shadow. Currently, Shadow is still missing a number of animations and Chaos abilities so I'll be looking to get Shadow fixed before I make further progress with Silver.

      @@Spiritclaw256 Thank you - I'm currently working on beefing up to tool I use to implement grind rails so I can get Rail Canyon working properly. Most grind rails usually only require between 20-60 control points but almost every rail in this level needs 200 or so and there's probably more than 30 rails 💀 Here's hoping I can get it sussed in time for the next dev log

      The option to let players customise or rebind controls is something that still needs implementing. However, this may prove tricky as I'm currently using the old Unity input system. Hopefully I can get this one sussed.

      It would be very possible for me to implement a way for Sonic to purchase new abilities or upgrades by buying shoes as the story progresses but I will most likely tackle this once I begin work on a campaign. That being said, it might be interesting if losing shoes would also mean Sonic loses the ability to light dash, grind or use other abilities until he recovers those shoes. We'll see.

      I don't have any plans to implement multiplayer. I may consider implementing a way to upload player ghosts to an online leaderboard but that's not a priority atm.

      @@twotwinuzisxx Without being able to test other machines, I'd say to best way to improve performance would be to reduce the render distance, reduce the Quality and ensure Portal Rendering is disabled. The worst level for performance so far has been Sonic Generations Speed Highway - still looking to optimise that level further but sometimes blender struggles to stay open when I work on it.

      Both the Spindash and the Boost give Sonic a sudden increase in speed but work in different ways. The Spindash is always available for Sonic to use. It can be used while running around at the speed of sound or even in mid-air to help Sonic clear large gaps. Charging a Spindash also serves multiple purposes - on the ground it makes Sonic drift more tightly around corners, it launches Badniks up into the air, and when Sonic is falling it makes him backspin so fast that the Magnus Effect makes Sonic accelerate forwards and achieve gliding. Boosting however is considered a Special Action which requires the Style Gauge to be filled at least once. That's when you see the star turn a different colour. The more times the Style Gauge is filled, the more powerful each Special Action becomes and in the case of the Boost, Sonic will Boost much faster with more Style Gauge. Also, Sonic can only Boost while touching the ground. TL;DR: Both the Spindash and the Boost are included because they work in different but interesting ways.

    This mechanic seems... incredibly punishing, in my opinion. Slip up and die once, without the ability to continue? Good luck getting back to normal. Also, I don't particularly like the red flashing at maximum gauge. It works for Metal Sonic, but regular Sonic? Nope. Maybe a lighter, cooler blue would work better.

      I should probably clarify - if you choose to continue, you can resume play immediately without losing the shoes but doing so will make Sonic lose a life. Only if the player chooses not to continue or is unable to because they have no lives left will Sonic wake up without his shoes. While I agree this mechanic does feel punishing, I like to think it also lets me raise the stakes by establishing a slightly more severe consequence for failure than simply letting the player respawn. As for Sonic flashing red, I may add an option to enable/disable it. The idea there is that it's looking to invoke the same effect that was applied to Sonic in Sonic Rush at Max Gauge.

I had to manually set the camera's sensitivity to even move it, changing the FoV actually just split the camera in two, the manner in which the spindash is activated makes it hard to chain it into a wallrun, the tutorial doesn't do a particularly good job of teaching the player anything, the title screen music and sound effects are unaffected by the relevant settings (which, mind you, are sliders with their valid points set to incredibly strange values), and I somehow managed to simultaneously accidentally activate some sort of developer freecam mode while also teleporting Sonic to an unknown location where I couldn't move around at all. And that was all within about 5 minutes.

      "I had to manually set the camera's sensitivity to even move it" - my best guess is that when the game in installed on a fresh machine, the player prefs default the camera sensitivity to 0. Looking to fix this in a future Update. "Changing the FOV actually splits the camera in two" - the 'Depth' slider is responsible for enabling a split screen steroscopic camera but this underneath the FOV slider. I suspect this may have been activated by mistake. "spindash is difficult to chain into a wall run" - The Best way to achieve a wall run is to ensure the run button is held while colliding with a wall in mid-air. So, immediately after releasing the run button to make Sonic Spindash, Hold the Run button again and this should ensure you can better chain the spindash into a wall run. Takes practice but is definitely doable. "the tutorial doesn't do a particular good job of teaching the player anything" - the tutorial level contains a series of onscreen button prompts and subtitled voiceover that tell you what to press in order to progress through the tutorial. Optional Question Marks can be activated to also explain additional optional mechanics. This comment may require some elaboration in order to be properly addressed. "the title screen music and sound effects are unaffected by the relevant settings (which, mind you, are sliders with their valid points set to incredibly strange values)" - I'll need to investigate further and see if this can be fixed in a future update. "I somehow managed to simultaneously accidentally activate some sort of developer freecam mode while also teleporting Sonic to an unknown location where I couldn't move around at all." - I suspect what happened was the replay system had been activated accidentally where you can pause, record, rewind or fast forward a recording of Sonic. I'll add an option to menu so only when the replay system is enabled by the player will they be able to use it deliberately. Thank you for the feedback :)

      Thank you, currently working on a few QOL fixes atm. While I am able to add rails, converting existing rail meshes from imported levels into properly working rails that Sonic can grind on has proven tricky. Hopefully, I can figure something out but no promises.

    I’m have two suggestions 1. Remapping bounce to LT plus B and having regular standard B in the air be a stomp 2. Discord server because, uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, idk I just think it’d be neat

      I decided against implementing the stomp given that the Bounce kinda makes it redundant. That is, holding both LT + A will make Sonic quickly accelerate towards the ground. Only if the player keeps holding both of these will they make Sonic bounce upon impacting the ground. The player can release these before impacting the ground to achieve the same outcome as a stomp where they don't bounce at all. The issue with the stomp is that in many games, the action cannot be cancelled which means if the player misuses it accidentally while platforming, they cannot then correct this mistake and instead immediately plummet into a bottomless pit in the worse case scenario. Those are my reasons against implementing the stomp but I'm happy to hear any thoughts for why it should be implemented. As for the Discord Server: discord.com/invite/2dDdmxtkGs

      As of the latest build, the music trigger in the tutorial will play one of three songs from Sonic Rush randomly. - What you Need - Back to Back - Right There (Ride On) When Sonic Overtime played my Tutorial in his video however, I hadn't yet implemented music.     I think the game is great but i have some issues one is the run button i feel like it should be a toggle since youl be holding it most of the time i found it rather tiring also the wall running is janky its if a wall isnt completely flat its impossibole to go through Cause sonic is uncontrollable also you might need an origin al level thats more open since sonic tends to fly allover the place wuhu island is the best level because of how open it is the others are to constrained and i find myself falling Off the map often maybe make sonic abit tighter? Oh and also make the camera sensetivty not 0 by default i thought my controller was broken cause i couldnt move it anyway great game hope you keep on making it

      Hi there, sorry to hear the camera sensitivity was set to 0 by default. I'm not quite sure how that might have happened since the settings should be set to whatever is in Player Prefs. I'll see if I can resolve this by the next update. As for wall running, I've found that the collision generated from the mesh of imported levels is oftentimes what can cause Sonic to detach from the wall, especially in places where the geometry is complex. Creating a separate simpler collision for the imported levels might mitigate this but I'm currently focused on developing my own content for the game atm. Regarding the toggle for running, it's something I have thought about but I've found myself so used to the controls I've implemented that I hadn't thought too much about them. If I can get it implemented in a way that doesn't complicate how the game feels to play, then I'll see if I can make this an option for a future update.

    Tbh I think this is really cool, I’m loving the moveset but I hope in the future you update stages that have grind rails, they don’t seem to work which makes navigation a little iffier then it should be, only reason I’m mentioning this is because the tutorial has working grind rails so it should be more then possible in theory

      Currently, the way Grind Rails work in my Project at the moment is that when they are created, a Bezier curve is defined first, which then determines how the collision and the mesh of the rail is generated. The issue with this approach however is that it has proven tricky to get rail grinding working for existing rails in levels. That being said, I'm sure there is a way to get this working properly and once I get it sussed, I'll be sure to get it implemented for at least a few levels in a future update.

      Hmmm...I only have an Xbox One controller that I use to test with. I'll see if there's a way to simulate the inputs of the Series X controller so I can investigate this further. The issue is most likely due to how I'm still using the old input system. I'll let you know if/when I've resolved this and updated the latest version.

      I've recently implemented a way to adjust Quality settings. Once I've updated the build, I'll upload a new video showcasing the fixes and changes I've made. For the time being, reducing the Far Clip Distance Slider in the options menu should reduce the render distance, thereby improving performance somewhat.

    make a seperate simpler tutorial that covers enough basic moves to get people goin, so that they picked that first and only go with the advanced tutorial if they really want to, learning crazy extra moves by your self is an amazing feeling and even then when you have levels that require thise crazy moves you can just teach them there instead
