Ball homestead
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 7 มิ.ย. 2023
We are just a small homestead located in north eastern Arkansas and we try to live a self sufficient life style. We try to grow as much of our own food and we raise a lot of our own meat. We love this simple life and we hope to teach and encourage others trying to live this simple life. We have bees, goats, Kune Kune pigs, rabbits, and chickens and we grow a large garden every year. We are just a small homestead with a big dream !

Such a fun video!! I will send to my mom and hope she tries with her goats
Thank you ❤️
Yay! I have been waiting all week for this! We are wanting to get a couple goats for our homestead and I love to see what all we can make with the milk! Thank you!
@@juliewalters74 your welcome ❤️ we love our goats
@juliewalters74 I plan on making goats milk soap soon and I’ll definitely share ❤️ we love having the goats and for us the smaller goat works perfect ❤️
Can u make & refrigerator the recipe, the day ɓfore?
@@DonnaMikolajczyk yes ❤️
Can u make the mix the day bfor
@@DonnaMikolajczyk yes ma’am
Ooh I hope you show how you separate the cream and how you make the butter. We are really looking forward to when we can raise some goats. Do you also make soap with the milk?😊
@@juliewalters74 yes watch for next weeks video we will do the cream separator and make some butter ♥️ and yes I freeze the extra milk we have in ice trays and pop in freezer bags once frozen for soap making
I used to run around in Newark. I was born in Batesville
@@marylovecountryliving do you live in the Area now ?
@@Ballhomestead no I live in a small town in Oklahoma but I do come home for a visit about twice a year. I was just there back in June.
@@marylovecountryliving awe that is awesome ♥️
So when you are milking just for yourself what do you use the milk for. I am a wannabe goat owner. I am pretty much all in on getting a couple of nanny goats for milk. I just don’t know what to use it all for. Also does goat milk have cream like a cows milk? I would love to make butter.
@@juliewalters74 yes if u set in the refrigerator for a few days the cream does rise to the top but it doesn’t separate as well as cows milk so we use a cream separator . It’s like a centrifuge that separates the milk from the cream it has 2 spouts and milk comes out one cream out the other … we usually have enough butter put up and frozen from one milking season to the next but we failed miserably the last time and I’m so ready to have that wonderful butter in the refrigerator and freezer agian. We also make cheese, yogurt and drink it . Goats milk is delicious !!! U can use it anyways u would use any other milk and to me it tastes as good or better than cows milk and it’s easier to digest ♥️
@@Ballhomestead thank you so much! Which breed of goat in your opinion is the best for small scale milking? I have a farmstand on our property and with the cost of butter I am trying to find a way to get it for less $. Do you feel like the butter from goat milk is about the same quality of butter made from cows milk?
@juliewalters74 yes the butter from goats milk is absolutely delicious. It is white and not yellow like cows milk but it’s is absolutely delicious! We have Nigerians we love them they are easier to handle and not as hard on fencing as bigger goats . Plus Nigerians have a high butter fat ! So it’s win win ! You might not get as much but for us we have 6 does in milk and that will more than supplement us and I forgot to tell You if you make soap goats milk soap is the best ! When I have to much milk I will freeze my goats milk on ice trays and pop in freezer bags when frozen and I then can use that for soap making !
Where was this at? What are you going to do with the stuff that didn’t sell? Wish you would have advertised where it was at with date and time info a few days before this event.
@@SkillandLuckCRAPS yes I should have it was in Newark AR and my husband is going to take the left overs to his work and donate them to the people that work there ♥️

@@Ballhomestead Good deal. It was a hopeful day for the festival. Hope it can be made up some way.
deer meat can kill you and your beloved family. only beef, chicken, pork, salmon.
I have ate deer meat my entire life and never had an issue. It’s my absolute favorite meat and it’s lean so I don’t understand how ?
microchips won't clean your brain and body of it anymore.
Green tomato salsa is the best! One thing I do is add some beef bullion or better than bullion to it. It gives it a wonderful depth of flavor.
@@azgardenlover370 I’ll have to try that
I DO NOT like relish in egg salad, deviled eggs, tuna salad, potato salad, or on hot dogs. I LOVE relish on grilled cheese, cold lunch meat salads, regular lettuce salads and in ranch dip. Even if you weren't raised on adding relish into traditional dishes that include it, make a small batch and try it with other things. My next experiment is trying it in hummus. I think it could be amazing!😂
@@lelarex888 I’ll have to give it a try ♥️
I watched your week 5 video before this one. I want you to know, I think your pantry is perfect, nothing wrong with it when it's full of security and convenience for your family. Esthetically a pretty pantry is nice, but every jar in your pantry is a jewel. My pantry is a hot mess and no where near as functional as yours. I aspire to have a pantry as beautiful as yours. Mine was prettier when I had kids, it was boxes in an old garage. Mine now is fancier but not as pretty as my old one. I stopped canning. It wasn't fancy but filled with my hard work and love in each jar. My new goal is to go back to that type of pantry rather than one full of purchased items. I miss the process and the enjoyment of the sealing pop and that sucking pop sound when you open your own saved food❤
@@lelarex888 awe thank you so very much ♥️
@@lelarex888 I totally agree
When you open a fiancee vacuum seal bag, do you just cut the top edge, wash and reuse the bags? I've seen lots of ladies do that to reduce plastic use and most important save money on bags since they get expensive sometimes
Sometimes it depends on what I have in them out yes you can reuse them ❤️
That awesome wife deserves a pallet with a railing around it for extra safety! 😂 Use it year to year
I have thought about doing hello fresh. Just not so sure if I would like it. New friend here. Great video. ❤❤❤. See you in the next video.

I have heard that putting sage in your canning does not come out good. The sage has a funny taste to it. I hope yours turns out good.
I hope so too!I have never put it in a canning project so fingers crossed 🤞
I have never seen green beans canned that way! Ive always blanched them, I'm curious, that would be so much easier! I canned okra for the first time yesterday with your granny's recipe (i think ahe was your granny). Got it from Luanne!
@@michellepolston9116 yes and I’m sure it was from grandmother ♥️ I always can mine like from the frig to the jar they are cooking through the canning process so it saves a step just pack them well so u don’t have a lot of shrinkage
I can’t wait to make your pickled eggs..I need to can more spicy ranch pinto beans and plain pinto beans. Please don’t take this as me being snarky but I was cringing when you put your jars of chicken soup base in boiling water in your pressure canner..the only that kept running through my head is those jars are going to crack from thermal shock..cold jars, cold canner, room temperature temp food ,room temp canner, hot jars, hot canner is how I was taught..You have many more years of canning behind your belt than me but I have learned first hand to follow the rules when using certain temps of jars to certain temps in a pressure canner. I lost quite a few jars so I know from my own mistakes.
Yes I know better …. I realized later what I did wrong I was just super tired the day I made that and was trying to get it done . I should have just waited until I wasn’t so exhausted but when I get something on my mind I just can’t stop thinking about it until I do it lol
@@Ballhomestead ~by your videos it sounds like you’re always a busy woman and this is when we make the mistakes..lol..so I get it.
@@Fritz0616 yes I work 10-12 hours everyday at the restaurant then have the farm and garden to tend and this southern heat is getting the best of me …. somedays I’m just more pooped than others and that was one of those days . Plus working my weird crazy hours probably doesn’t help but I love my job and I been doing it for a very long time . I know I’m not getting any younger 😞 PS those eggs are loved by many I made and sold them for years
I am going to try your pickled eggs! LIke that you can can them and make them shelf stable! Everyone talks about For JAR lids but I've had just as many fails with them as with other lids- no nicks, right head space, wiped rims..... It is such a bummer when they don't seal or the jars break like that! Enjoying this challenge! Have 4 friends joining and we text each other each day with our little bits!
They are really good I hope you enjoy the eggs ❤️ and thank you for watching
This sure is an easy-peasy method of getting Muscatine juice and doesnt require the cost nor clean up of a steam juicer! What other juices are possible this way?
I’m sure u could honestly use berries like blackberries & raspberry’s for sure then u could just strain off the fruit and any seeds that might escape the fruit ❤️
Lol..I have only made flour tortillas and OMG what a work out..I struggled to roll out each one using a rolling pin, sweating in all and after all that work then cooking them on a cast iron pan they were stiff and not pliable at all..I swore I would never, ever make them again. This was probably 13 yrs ago. I have learned a lot since then so now it’s time to try my hand at them again but I want to make Hawaiian tortillas. Flour tortillas and corn tortillas I can get pretty cheap in bulk from Samsclub but learning the skill is why I have tried to make most things from scratch,. I hear the buttery flour tortillas are also very tasty.. I just made a new to me recipe of fajita seasoning mix up last week that I need to try .Thanks for the video.
@@Fritz0616 these were flour tortillas and the dough is so soft u should try agian they are absolutely wonderful. My husband is kinda picky and he even loved them. Those fajitas were the best I’ve had in years with those homemade tortillas. I have not had good luck with corn shells though mine always break in thr bend
@@Ballhomestead ~Thank you I will most def make them again using your recipe.
