There is something very depressing about Finn handling his emotions very similarly to how Martin does. He just chooses to keep himself constantly distracted, essentially running away from having to deal with Jakes death. While Jake on the other hand spends his death as peacefully as he possibly can. Jake is the opposite of Finn in a lot of ways. It makes sense that Jake never taught Finn to accept death.

I can imagine on some Level Simon feels responsible for some of the insanity Finn's showcasing here during his time as The Ice King; while he was never truly a threat while under the crown's curse, he was indeed a menace to Ooo during that time.
