National service is great in peace time. The reason why they're considering implementing it is because of the possibility of war which is at its highest now since the end of the cold war. At the end of the day, yeah it's a good thing in terms of getting everyone to have one thing that unites them. Giving you good social and discipline skills. But, the goal is to have you trained and ready for a war if it happens.

I don't blame the kids. I look at the world and it's bleak, theres not many new oppertunities for children and teenagers being shared for them to aspire or want to do, why work a minimum wage job to earn next to nothing to be able to live on when you can just grow weed and make £140-180 an ounce and then maybe go to more profitable stuff or go stealing jewellery or cars? The future is bleak and there is no reinvestment for the youth to have a future, the money is held at the top and next to nothing trickles down for them, houses are outgrowing wages like crazy because of an influx of immigration, public services are going to shit for example over a year wait to have basic operations like a tooth removal, schools are more focused on teaching crap than trades, internet is so acessable it desensatises kids like it did to me to things like violence and porn. There's always been little bastards and shitheads running around but never like this and I just think it's a massive combination of many many things but these come to the top of my head.

my late teens were aimless and occasionally employed. A national service might have given me focus on finding my place in society. Not in a military reserve but as a community project's labour force receiving a wage and guidance in various trades
