*This could be the genesis of Biryani* - When people went out for battles, the cooks went out to. It was easier to cook everything in one pot . The Meat was hunted , I am not sure where the rice/or other grains was sourced . The tallow of the meat was the oil ( so nothing to carry there ) A little of Salt and spices went a long way ( So transportation and storage was not concerning) . After the Battle - Bir - Yani was the meal of the day . And a hearty one at that - the palate was very satisfying - the meat was the source of iron, the spices and salt was medicinal -it was cooked on charcoal for long hours . the smoky flavor added an oomph to the different layers which satisfied all senses of an exhausting body and mind which lulled the men to sleep after a very long day.
