I got to read "My Mother's Keeper" and the one who comes off the worst is B.D. Hyman herself. While Bette Davis is presented as narcissistic, controlling and prejudiced, I found her more vulnerable instead of mean. If anything, BD's tirades against her mom are crueler by comparison. She and her husband lived off of Bette Davis yet had the nerve to judge her, to be ungrateful. BD also appears to resent Bette for not leaving her abusive ex, Gary Merrill, not having any empathy for the fact Bette was a abused wife and how the psyche of a woman, placed on the situation lived in, works.
