    Next time, skip the hassle and park on a hill and give it a snort of ether! When the starter gave out on our TD-14, I had two choices. The hand crank, or the hill option. So, I only used the hand crank in the winter when hooked up to a Bearcat feed grinder with the flat belt. Pain in the ass to set up right, leaving the hand crank as the only option! My cousin would have me put a pan of waste oil under the engine and light it to warm the oil and make it easier for hand starting. The D69U was good for pulling three drills, but could only handle 5 bottom plows. He had an Allis-Chalmers HD-9, with a 471 two stroke Detroit that would run circles around the D6 pulling 10 bottoms!

    That is an immersion water heater, used by the Canadian Forces, that clamps to the inside of a Metal garbage can. Fill the garbage can with water next The heater has an outboard cylindrical tank filled with ... if memory serves me right ... Kerosene or Diseal??? ... with a small tap on one side ... you have a tiny flip out type cup that you fill with a few drops of fuel and light. The spring loaded cup snaps back into the chimney ... this causes an up draft and is crucial to making this work ... now you light the dripping fuel with a tiny piece of cloth damp with fuel on a stiff wire, and let the burning fuel splash on an oval piece of metal that has holes in it, and on metal legs that are uneven and stand the oval plate at an angle ... this actually is meant for the unignited fuel to splash into the base of the circular heater, and because of the updraft allows the super heated air to go around the circular bend and up the chimney ... and once the flame ignites the splashing fuel, blow out the flame at the tiny tap valve ... wait a couple of seconds then turn on the tap a very tiny amount to allow one drip per 3 or 4 seconds ... KEEP YOUR FACE OUT OF THE OPENING ... or risk loosing your eye brows ... you always knew a rookie was lighting it, or someone untrained when you heard a loud Whump in the second to last sentry rotation, that sounded like a mortar being fired. DO NOT USE GASOLINE ... it's too explosive. They came with idiot proof instructions, that when followed, allowed for the safe use of it. It's a very efficient way to heat up water for the troops in cold weather areas to allow for washing, hygeine and sanitation. Treat it with respect or blow yourself up. 😳🤯😲😎 P.s. it's not a space heater.

    • @Fireatank
      @Fireatank ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, hope you're strong enough to try and push it into a metal garbage can full of water, when it acts like a cork in water ... gasoline is explosive .... to give an example .... one drop of gasoline with the correct air mixture will equal a quarter stick of dynamite ... I know what I'm talking about ... Canadian Forces, 30 plus years I've taught the assembly and lighting of these water heaters ... However, be my guest and experiment ... lol Do what I said, you'll keep your eye brows ... good luck 🙄😎🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Grandpa bought a Hayliner 68 brand new. PTO drive though. Then my Dad bought it from him in the early 80's, and we used it until the farm auction in the late 90's. it didn't need much power, but we farmed hills so we needed more to make sure we got the throw wagon up the hill too :) I see comments saying it needs 17HP, but you still got to pull it and the wagon! Oh, my Uncle bought and mounted a NH thrower unit in the mid 70's for it and then built a couple wood throw racks for it. We bought those too and farmed with them right till the end. the one was getting pretty rough, but they were made of red oak so they lasted decades. They sold for a few bucks at the auction, not much more then the running gears were worth though, wood racks were antique by then. Heck square bales were antique by then. We pulled ours with a 65HP David Brown 1200. Handled the surges from the plunger a lot better then our MM U302(gas). That baler is overbuilt anyway, you can STUFF it full of hay and nice bales will just pump out of the back. Just make sure the knife on the plunger is still sharp.

    • @michaelwood2297
      @michaelwood2297 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always like using our, that baler doesn't like damp/ green hay even if you turn the cranks back out. That bale still puts out a nice bale though

    MIchael, I'm looking to figure out what I have to get besides the firing element to add thermostart to my 4500. Is there a fuel line built for it. Does it just take voltage from the ignition?

    • @michaelwood2297
      @michaelwood2297 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a fuel for it that comes off the fuel return. I ended up putting a t fitting in and use that. If you wiring harness is still good and has the wire for it, you should be able to hold the key to the left until the flame comes. Or just wire in a switch. I ended up putting in a block heater in and I have been using that.
