Are the Eastman VC 305’s darker in color if bought today? The one here seems lighter than advertised. I do realize this video is years old. Also if you wouldn’t mind, what is the name of the piece the cellist plays after Elgar? Beautiful playing all around!

I've had one of these Renaldi violins from Brobst for close to 30 years. It's always played bright, clear, and penetrating. But there's a satisfying, reinforcing resonance in all its sounds. I love it. I've thought occasionally about upgrading, but as an amateur, I think this will be outplaying me for a while more. We're old friends now anyway.

The upper three strings are bright and powerful, but the G lacks depth and character. Is it possible to play quietly on this instrument while still retaining quality of sound? In other words, is it worth the hundreds of thousands of dollars it will no doubt be sold for?

It sounds like a light bow on a trade-instrument, and thin plates.... with Dominant strings holding it altogether.

I love these videos - and although the "old me" would have sick of the same pieces being played, I actually had (and still have) one request: that you perform on all the different violins with the same bow! Perhaps you can have a 'particularly special bow' set aside for all your violins :) Just a thought!

It is very difficult to hear what instruments sound like under these circumstances. Your recording conditions as well as the equipment on which I am listening factor too heavily. Roth and Steiner, Stainer? Seem to be quite prolific in their production.
