Scored a Honda Battery From The Junkyard for $30!
Is it just me or has everything gotten expensive in the last few years? My battery was on a slow death and was 6 years old - I scored this Honda branded battery from the junkyard for $30!

Thank you! I found another video that showed how to open the passage from the backseat but i have large items that won’t fit through that little hole. I needed this! Thank you again!
Awesome! Glad that I could help!
For sale: Low miles, no accidents
🤣
Clean title. Will need some tlc.
What a deal !!! Now give the man a shiny nickel and melt it down for scrap metal 😂

I'm shocked they didn't pull the wheels off. The alloy wheels are worth a lot more as scrap than the steel. Last time I was at the U Pull it place by they were loading a semi with them.
Give it some oil and it’s good to go.

Are the plugs the same for the 2nd and 3rd module I have the 2nd one and wondering if they are interchangable and you said it's the one they used on the V6 models and I have a 4cyl
I just got one of the 6cyl units and the plugs are different, unfortunately.

Hi. Congrats. I have won 2004 Grant Thanks to @ebay and @Hello allice
Congrats on winning!
How about the bottom part? What is that called? I need that part replaced.
If you mean the striker? I think you can get those from Toyota or possibly check eBay.
Just had to change mine on a 2010 Camaro, this was the most helpful video ive seen
Hi there, congrats on winning last year. I have a technical question. How far in advance did they notify you as a winner? Winners are announced at ebay open at the end of this month, but curious if you were notified before or during the conference? Any insight would be great! Thanks and congrats again!
Aww thank you! When I won it last year they notified me a couple of weeks in advance of eBay Open and the money hit my bank account during the conference. Good luck!
@@autolatch Thanks so so much for your response. I haven't been able to find any info online about actual winners so it's so great to know that you won and I hope the money helped you and your business a lot. Ebay open is less than 2 weeks away, so I'm starting to feel a bit discouraged at this point. but hoping/praying for the best. Did Hello Alice notify you or did it come directly from ebay through email, phone? sorry, i have so many questions, just want to make sure I don't possibly miss an important call or email.
@@The_Aging_Millennial happy to chat with you about my experience! The $500 technology credit actually helped me the most. I use old tech (except for my camera) so I was able to throw another $500 on top of the credit and get a really fast computer. It has really helped with video editing. And we’re getting pretty close to Open but there’s still hope i think. There were e-mails from both Hello Alice and the eBay up and running grant team.
My dashboard light for the rear latch stays lit, despite how firmly the rear is closed. This is likely the cause of parasitic battery drain, even though the dome light switch is off. Would replacing the latch assembly be the solution?
I haven’t had to troubleshoot this one on my Element. Maybe try the lower tailgate latches next. They both have 2 pin electrical connectors in them that can go bad and leave the circuit open.
Thanks brother
could you give me more details on removing the plastic cover?
No problem- the hard part of the cover is removing the 2 clips that hold the cover on. They are on the underside of the latch about an inch up. I use a straight pick and a small screw driver in a cross cross manner to wedge between the latch and the cover to get to the clips. Should I make a better video to clarify this? Let me know if you need any more help.
@@autolatch thanks for your quick reply. Now , I found out there were two small clips at the bottom. So, I used two small screw drivers and pressed the undersides of the cover to open up the clips. and then pulled the cover out. Your video is excellent. Thank you again.
@@eugeneyu4823 Glad you worked it out!
Just replaced the actuator in my S40 with a $16 Focus one as listed in your video. Works great thanks for the heads up!
Is very good video, thank You so much. I could not take out the plastic cover, because of 2 plastic clips. I learned it in Your very good video.. Thanks again.
How do you get the little blue plastic bit back in after you pop it out? Only part left for me lol
It is slotted on one side where you can slide that back on the the orange clip. You can probably also zip tie it to one of the pieces of metal.
@@autolatch My mistake, I was referring to the like tiny bit where the bicycle cable comes out. Its like a tiny blue nozzle with a cable coming out. I saw you pop it out with ease, had the same results, but now I am baffled at how to press it back into the teeth that hold it.
@@Skaursgaurd I guess it is hard to describe how to get it back in. You mount the metal piece first (twist it in) and then press the blue clip back into the mounting spot. If you have any nearby junkyards you could possibly find an Element to see how it is mounted. The Pilot and MDX latches are similar.
@@autolatch Gotcha. I may take some thin pliers to see if I can get the leverage I need. But I appreciate the insight. Thank you!
Turned out to be a broken spring. Was able to stretch what was left and hooked back up. Saved 50 bucks!
Thank you. Clear and concise
This was very helpful!
Why did you remove it? Mine stopped automatically opening/closing with the fob and I’m wondering if there’s a way to fix it or if my only option is to replace it
If your fob stopped unlocking the latch the actuator probably burned out. It's the yellow piece that sits on top of the latch. The part number for the actuator is 74896-S05-003. It is expensive from Honda but if you have access to a junkyard you can get one from a Pilot (or Element).
@@autolatch - Thanks!
My 2008 doesn't have the 4 pin connection. But has the release button?
See if you can send me pictures of your current latch. I’m autolatch on eBay. Here’s the eBay listing: www.ebay.com/itm/233207641905?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=WdY0wVgkRZq&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=WdY0wVgkRZq&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Those 6 pin connectors are hard to find lol For some reason all the after market actuators only have 3 wires instead of 5
What two bolts do you need??
Thanks for watching. They are M6, 1mm.
you are the man. thank you for this
Hello Dave is there anyway you can unlock the latch how you did so you can’t unlock it from the inside but put the latch back in the trunk, so you can’t unlock it from the inside only the outside ? Thank you
Not sure if I should explain how to do that. It sounds unsafe.
if i apply and get approved i wont have to pay anything back right?
It’s a grant so you don’t need to pay it back!
Helpful video!
Thank you, had just that exact problem, trunk does close but needs what seems to be bit too much force. Gonna try this.
Is the wiring the same on each?
I’m not sure.
For the ones without a screen I know they're the same
did u ever figure this out?
@@treyg35 the 6 cyl model is definitely different. I'm not sure if the 98-00 and the 01-02 4cyl are interchangeable yet.
Greetings, I need that back door of that same 2006 model.
Try eBay, the car-part website for a junkyard near you, or LKQ. Hope that helps.

From my understanding the third pin is for monitoring the circuit for the alarm. I have taken those lock actuators apart to replace the motor inside (drivers door) If you ever have you alarm set and it keeps going off for no reason, it would be that circuit tripping it from carbon build up. All the doors and hatch/trunk have that open/locked monitoring circuit. I am currently dealing with my rear hatch tripping the alarm on rainy days. The hatchbacks have power to the lock actuator and then they also have another wire to a switch in the mechanical lock to monitor it.
