    I think for safety they should have a rope or winch line attached to the tractor from the shore for recovery purposes just in case of mechanical failure

    • @WaBaker88
      @WaBaker88 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is already a long rope and a winch attached to the tractor that connects it to the trailer. If the tractor bogs down, it can ditch the trailer and make its OK way out.

      @@My_everydaylife. Ah, I understand your comment, there is a ring bolted half way up the ramp, the tractor can spool out a winch and connect if it is needed. Very often it's not, it is more than capable.

    LMAO! They have to be kidding, right? It would have been better if they built a sea wall about 200-300 metres from the launching area to protect boats on the ramp than launch or retrieve boats in choppy water. A sea wall, either made of large rocks, or concrete blocks could help calm the water at the ramp and you don't have to risk any injuries by being smashed with the boat while trying to retrieve it back on the trailer. I have a speed boat and know how difficult it is to reload the boat back on the trailer, especially when idiots on their personal water craft speeding in the vicinity of the ramp are creating choppy water. Try it, you will understand what it's like when idiots are churning water around you.

      Our shoreline has a sandbank, possibly at the time, he was thinking of pushing the trailer over the bank but its up to the boat when they want to leave the carriage. The beach is changing everyday. Hope that helps.

    I think they could have timed their entry a little better. Maybe running in during a trough instead of a oncoming wave. But it seems obvious that the tractor was made for this with a watertight cab and solid ramp underneath to drive on.

    Ya, they need a much longer trailer tongue. There is no reason for the tractor to go that deep. The tongue could be so long it would need a set of wheels in the middle to keep it off the deck.

      So do we. But not all places that need lifeboats have harbours or are suitable for them. This bit of coast has extensive sandbanks offshore (one of the reasons to have a lifeboat at this location) and is eroding fast and so isn't suitable for a harbour. In fact the slipway of the old lifeboat station at Happisburgh was washed away, with the rest of the beach, in 2003. This launch is from a new site along the coast from the village itself. Trailer launch is flexible, reliable, has been used to good effect for well over a century to allow boats to be sited in places where other means of launch are unsuitable. It is also fast when compared to having a boat arrive from somewhere else. The RNLI does regular coastal surveys to re-assess station siting, means of launch and the boats allocated to each station. It is also willing to spend and innovate if necessary. If there was a more suitable way to launch from this station it would be in use.

    • @WaBaker88

      The tractor has the function to be completely flushed through as well as washed down. The internals are completely sealed off so no exposure so salt water. Hope you enjoy the footage
