The last segment of my 2024 bicycle tour through Oregon. In this episode I ride from Lava Lake to Chemult, Crater Lake, Clear Water Falls, and Roseburg.

Riding my touring bike through the mountains of Oregon. I leave Sisters and ride to Bend, then on to the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway climbing up and around Mt. Bachelor to Little Lava Lake Campground.

I saddle up and climb over Oregon's famed McKenzie Pass. A loaded bike, steep climbs and road delays make for a challenging day of riding, but well worth the effort.

A quick overview of my touring bike setup and camp gear.

After a rain delay and a two night hotel stay in Pismo Beach, I resume riding south down the California Coast towards Santa Barbara.

In this video I ride my Touring Bicycle south from Marina California down the Salinas Valley. Then I travel from Paso Robles out to the Coast and on toward Pismo Beach. This is part of a detour on the Pacific Coast Bicycle Route that by passes the Highway 1 closures in the Big Sur area, though I took a slightly different route than the ACA detour. In an effort to improve comfort and performance, I install tubeless tires on my touring bike. However, I have questions. Are these tires suited for touring? Would they be dependable on rides through remote areas? I try to determine if they are up for the task. Update: The tight clearance with the Almotions caused some issues on my latest tour. I’ll be sharing details soon.

Decisions are made and due to lingering snow on McKenzie Pass the route back to my car is modified. I attempt to ride a "Century" but come up just short.

Riding from Riverside Campground, near Detroit Oregon, up to Santiam Junction. There I make a bad decision and end up in a routing dilemma.

Cycling through the Mt. Hood National Forest. I ride some quiet forest roads following the ACA’s Sierra Cascades route into the Willamette National Forest. Beauty and destruction, as the route passes through lush green forests and blackened burn areas. Then onward to Detroit and the Santiam River.

Riding from Hood River Oregon heading south, climbing up Highway 35 towards Mt. Hood and the surrounding National Forest land.

I ride from Champoeg State Park in Oregon, through the outskirts of Portland, to Ainsworth State Park in the Scenic Columbia River Gorge. Then on to Hood River the next day.

In this video I arrive in Oakland Oregon where I hang with my friend Ron for 2 days. Then Ron drops me in Cottage Grove and I ride to Eugene to start my tour. From Eugene I follow the Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway to its northern terminus at Champoeg State Park.
