What software are you using to adjust the monitor?
No answer eh?
Can't wait for mine, don't care for minor issues that will get fixed, more bothered about having a QD OLED monitor of this spec finally
Did they fix the dolby vision with hdr 1000? Also I didn't know this monitor supports 12 bit color, you sure about that?
no DV is till on I have read online that is it working as intended but that was on a redit forum so nothing official from Dell
Dolby Vision is 12 bit.
The panel is 10 bit, but you can get 12bit via hdmi.
@@ShandidyTechTips Is 12 bit at the full 4k 240hz? As for dolby vision I read that it works fine if you select hdr 400 true black but if you select hdr 1000 it doesn't and the colors look washed out. Not sure if the firmware fixed that.

Make sure to update the firmware on the monitor, so connect the supplied usb to the pc and then connect the hdmi cable and update the monitor to m2b102 firmware version then you should be good to go

i considered this monitor, but the asus and gigabyte has an option to change the aspect ratio and since i most play esport games (other than watching movies and yt) changing to 24"-27" is a must. I'm looking forward to getting one :D
You shouldn't be running the panel refresh often. You need to run the panel for 1500 hours before it should be run and it will do it on it's own.
5:46 Dolby Vision blows out content and doesn't accurately track the EOTF. What you should do is go into SDR mode in Windows. Change the monitor preset to Creator mode. Make sure it's using DCI-P3 color space and 2.2 gamma. Go back into HDR in windows. Turn off Dolby Vision by toggling the monitor power button. Now you are free to use the SDR content brightness slider (personally I prefer ~27 but you can blast the screen at 100 if you want).
Id never turn off hdr... i dont on mine.
@@sa1sa624 I often keep mine in HDR just because swapping to the proper settings is a pain. For desktop use you’d ideally use SDR creator mode clamped to sRGB color space and 2.2 gamma. This will give a more accurate and pleasing image in comparison to letting HDR tonemap SDR content.
To be fair Dell released a new Firmware M2B102 to address the issues, I have not had time to install it as I work 10 hours shift including commute time, I will install and test hopefully in the weekend
Too bad, cutting-edge monitor tech and buggy. Hm, sound familiar, with Alienware QD-OLED ultrawide released within the last year or two? Alienware will lose their customers' trust, or maybe they already have, particularly for the premium-level products where people pay good money for this NOT to happen.
The ultrawide you're referring to, was widely considered to be the best monitor hands down for the last 2 years.
@@MultiNastyNate You obviously don't own one. Only recently has the dwf pushed firmware updates that fix the monitor's eotf tracking in hdr content. Beyond that, 10-bit hdr on the dwf is limited to 100hz without using a custom resolution. Just because it's the 'best' doesn't mean the monitor is perfect, and accsess to these same qd-oled panels may give other brands opportunity to put out superior firmware and tuning.
@@maxsmith111 I'm obviously sitting in front of my AW3423DWF right now. Everything you said sounds like YOU don't own the monitor, and you're just salty and looking for reasons to say it's bad. Nice try buddy. Every single monitors unboxed video has ended with the same conclusion, that the alienware ultrawide oleds were the best monitors until the new 3rd gen 4K which have just started to release.
@@MultiNastyNate yes, I have one. And like I’ve already said, Nasty Nate, ‘best’ is a relative term and any intelligent owner of the Alienware UW will attest that it’s not a perfect monitor, but yes, probably the best of its time. The issue is Alienware putting out half-baked firmware and other loose ends. I am “hard on it” only because it’s so close to being excellent. Enjoy your monitor and half-baked logic, Nasty Nate.
@@maxsmith111 I own one, and it considered one of the best of the previous generation
so is an lg c3 better
no
Lg C3 is about the same as the AW in term of hdr, the benefits of the AW is 32" with higher PPI. But you do need to set closer to the monitor to enjoy the detail.
Only thing is.. I'd go dual 7900xtx with 48GB GDDR6 ram over a single 4090.. and the dual gpu will be less in price and give you a lot more performance. Also why not a PCIE5 5th gen SSD?
7900xtx is useless especially in machine learning.
@@lilunchengsmiles Not sure who told you that. 24GB VRAM and performance on par with 4090.. its plenty good for running models. Maybe not for machine learning.. but who is using a home desktop to try to do any sort of machine learning.. not nearly powerful enough without lots of high end GPUs. Unless you're just learning how to write code to train.. but for running models, its plenty capable.
@@b3owu1f People typically construct workstations for specific workloads unless they have an excessive amount of money to spare. For common tasks like rendering or machine learning training, the RTX 4090 is indeed a valuable asset, which partly explains the U.S.'s decision to restrict its export to China. This move prompts reflection on the utility of AMD cards, which were not included in the ban. Many high-performance rendering machines, including those utilized by artists and engineers, favor NVIDIA cards like the RTX 4090. For certain users, the RTX 4090 presents the most cost-effective option before considering pricier professional-grade cards. AMD appears significantly less capable in handling these workloads, to the extent that I would prefer acquiring two RTX 4080 cards instead.
@@lilunchengsmiles Fully understand all that. And yet, the 7900xtx is as performant in every task as the 4090 with the exception of nvidia specific API/SDK coded tests. Naturally they cant compete in that. But you dont need to sell me on it. Plenty of reviews show the performance of both cards in games, rendering, video editing and AI. There are indeed some areas of AI that the nvidia is better strictly because nvidia provides robust sdk/api tools that AMD does not have for their consumer cards.
@@b3owu1f my profession is customer facing solution architect, customers pick hardwares which covers as much features as possible so that they don’t need to spend money and refactor all infrastructure. Time is money. If I spend that much money building workstation, price is the least I concern. If I really concern with price, I will not go workstation route. If I invest money, make sure the focus is saving times of expensive engineering labor costs. Many software works very well with Nvidia hardware , it is obvious pick. I do agree with you on PCIE5 5th gen ssd . If he invests that much money, especially workloads applications, fast ssd is essential.

Refreshing review, giving honest feedback on the negatives. I plan on getting after Dell rolls out a firmware update, especially for the DV issue.
This monitor has been nothing but headache for me. When it works and the the right setting show up, It's a beautiful display. Too many bugs ATM. Mine doesn't have flickering in hdm1 2.1 with gsync enabled. My issues is DV, and when peak 1000 is activated, sometimes I get different brightness with the same setting. I got 25 more day before I make the decision to return it.
When you first turn on your computer leave HDR on in windows. Press the monitor button to turn it off then turn it back on. You should now be in HDR+ mode instead of Dolby Vision. Dell and NVIDIA are blaming Microsoft for this so we'll see when it actually gets fixed but it only takes 10 seconds or so to fix.
@Phil_529 I try this and it's a hit or miss, it's not consistent on my end. So I went back to the old driver. Works for me ATM.
@@studior3dd I keep my monitor in creator mode instead of standard, maybe that has something to do with it. It has worked every time for me (knock on wood). I love the monitor but there are a staggering amount of bugs.
@Phil_529 I love it when it works, my issues with power on and off is some games it lock in DV. For example in mw3 when I activate HDR? It automatically turn to DV. it's still a great picture since DV is brighter, but you loose those black and loose those peak brightness. It's doesn't do that in the old driver. Have you updated to thr new firmware? They mention they fix gsync but still haven't detected in my nvidia setting.
@Phil_529 my setting are creative/ peak 1000 as wells, I try all kind of setting to make sure it doesn't activate DV. It's still does . If u get lucky sometimes DV doesn't kick in. It's differently some kind of bug.
