I have an autographed 1988 Philadelphia Eagles Team Picture signed by Buddy Ryan, it is hanging here in my office. My father and Buddy were great friends and were in the Army together. Buddy was from Frederick Oklahoma and my father was from Lawton Oklahoma. They remained great friends until my father's passing in 1999. Buddy sent me the signed team picture knowing that I was a Cowboy fan, my father got a great kick in giving the picture to me. I treasure this team photo, it has some great names from Reggie White, Randall Cunningham, Mike Golic, Bill Walsh to name a few. I never got to meet Mr. Ryan, I missed my opportunity when the town of Frederick had 'Buddy Ryan' Day and I had Finals at OSU. Mr. Ryan was someone that you either loved or hated just like my father, they were 2 peas in a pod. My father always told the story of Buddy and him getting thrown in jail for brawling in a bar in Chicago. RIP Mr. Ryan I hope you and my father are having fun brawling in heaven.

I worked for the Patriot News in Harrisburg, PA. When it came across the wire that Buddy was fired by Norman Braindead I went in the bathroom and cried for a long time. He really got cheated in the fog bowl. The NFL rule book states if you can’t see goalpost to goalpost the game can’t be played.

But I believe Papa Halas hiring Mike Ditka and the animosity between Ditka & Ryan showed especially during practices Offense vs Defense! That come Sunday's Game both side looked at the game as a day off after spending the week scrimmaging against the two best lines in the NFL! Sadly hiring Ditka cost the Chicago Bears the Best GM in the NFL or AFL! They rode his fumes until the talent aged out! Both Buddy & Mike were meant to a couple for a few years! But after the Breakup! They would never reach the same plateau again! RIP Buddy Ryan a true Field Combat General!

We watched this game at my grandmother's house. After the end of regulation, during the commercials, we switched channels briefly to check on the status of the Dallas game that would be starting shortly. But we didn't get back in time to see the Bears' kickoff return. Darn!

Each generation has an opinion on who was best but I agree with Leo on Willie Mays. I was not yet 8 years old in1957 and my Dad took me to Wrigley Field to see the Cubs and the then-NY Giants. We always got there early to see outfield and infield practice and BP. I remember Willie catching flies with his basket catch and even catching some behind his back, very impressive. I remember the Giants taking BP and they all looked the same until Willie got to hit. On a 1 to 10 scale of intensity, Willie was a 12. He got in the box and started hitting shots into the outfield, some off the grass, some off the wall, and some into the seats, all line drives. It seemed to a kid like he was a superman, he was head and shoulders above anyone else. I've seen a lot of games and a lot of players since then but nobody, NOBODY as great as Willie Mays was. May the Almighty give him rest and eternal joy in heaven.
