Been there many times, on a team that never played defense, no back checking, no scoring, so I faced a average of 70 close in shots per game, allowing 8-12 goals a game. The funny part, members of the other team would skate up to me after the game and tell me how shitty my team was, and how impressed they were of my goal tending by saying, 'You stand on your head to make saves for those guys'! The guy who put the game together gives out 95% of the mo ey brought in in the form of cash, gift certificates, and prizes. The second year I did it I won a "treasure chest full of precious metals". Well, it was a little box that looked as small as a makeup box. Inside were dozens of silver coins, two different grams of gold that were in display sheaths, and a square of rhodium. It was pretty cool. Worth $2,500.00 I am guessing. Personally I wish it was just the cash. I sold it for less than it was worth. But one of the prizes was a$10,000.00 apple desktop.That is why I played I really wanted that prize. The scavenger hunt was just a bunch of websites that had clues and some images that meant something. I would love to do this again. I play this one every year. But I'd like to do this every month or at least many more times than once a year. And for more than just 100.00 gift certificate. If we want to grow high school hockey, it needs to be easy to watch outside of MN. As a native Minnesotan living in Southern California, I had to jump through questionable hoops to watch Hockey Day Minnesota. I fear I will have to do the same for the high school tournament. We need to sell the State of Hockey beyond the borders of the state. The Spittin Chiclets crew is doing amazing stuff to promote college hockey. I’ve heard them even mention MN High School hockey. There are others outside of the state that would enjoy and do their part to promote it, if it was readily available for all to see.
