My WRX STI Track Progress
We're back at Sydney's Luddenham Raceway with my MY16 WRX STi. Trying to beat my previous lap time PB of 57.01 seconds! A few suspension changes have been added to the car since the last time we were here so looking forward to checking out the improvements.
What once was my daily driving, not-gonna-mod-ever car has now become a daily driving race car.

Boss man, where did you find that kenwood head unit? I’ve looked everywhere only and found it on the kenwood website but there’s no option to buy it.
If you're Sydney based, I got mine from MC Car Security, they supplied and fitted this head unit, as well as having a variety of other branded HU's to choose from.
About how many inches lower do you sit compared to stock? Does it affect the visibility a whole lot?
I'm saying you sit higher on the recaros than the stock seat. Maybe an inch and a half higher? Because you're sitting higher in the recaros you technically see more.
@@FAM571ohh okay! I’ve seen others saying they sit way lower. Do you have a link to the seats and rails that you ordered so I can get the same ones?
@@jonsdaniel to be clear, the recaros sit higher than the stock seat when the stock seat is set to its lowest setting (you can adjust the height of the stock seat, you can't on the recaros). I also ordered my seats through the shop that installed them, so I don't have a link to share unfortunately.
What were the tyre pressures you went for?
Deflated to 33 PSI after a session.

So can you swap a 2016 mfd for a 2018 mfd in an Impreza?
I'm not so sure you can swap between a VA WRX MFD to an 2018 Impreza MFD, remember that WRX and Impreza's are different cars post 2015..
Should try port matching the oem manifold and getting a tune you’ll notice the same and equal length is definitely not more aggressive more Honda civic sounds maybe not aggressive lol
When I mentioend it being aggressive, that was in comparison to when I had the stock UEL setup, where I could feel the EL headers definitely made my car feel more aggressive and responsive when putting my foot down. Also disagree with it sounding like a Honda Civic but to each their own.

I bought the killer b equal length header for my 2015sti and was the only thing I regretted putting on the car lol

Love the seats! I have the same setup with the Recaro rails and together with the seats they look so beautifully OEM in the car. Nice to see that you get the Sportster CS with the optional side airbag; we don't get that option in North America so I end up losing a pair of airbags in the car. But the far improved seating position and support was worth it to me. They completely transform the driving experience.

Hey man, I’m not sure if you’ll see this but I live in Sydney and own a 2004 XT forester. I have in an ej257 that I am building for daily driving. I am only 16 atm so I can’t have too crazy of power but I have an intake, turbo back exhaust, vf43 turbo, wrx tmic, walbro fuel pump, sti injectors and a few more things. Recently bought el headers purely cause I like the sound but hoping to get some extra power out of it too. If by chance you see this, let me know what you think.
That sounds like a good build! I notice that you didn't mention much on the suspension front, if you're planning on tracking your car, a good set of coilovers, tyres, and a rear sway bar will go a long way!

Yeah not sure what I can cut out without sacrificing the daily driver aspect of the car.

@@FAM571 first time last September 55.8 was best of efforts. 54s is goal next month. Just need tyres and not an 32 degree day tyres and temps soak suffer. Goodjob for getting into mid 50s!

@@shoerotata9345 Got them as a gift, but most places sell these like CMA, Prospeed and DCJAP.
A sti with a good turbo back set up and ulh is probably the best sounding 4 cylinder in existence. Unfortunately the results speak for themselves when it comes to the issues with ulh. I’m getting a holy header installed next week. While I dont think it sounds better then ulh, I can appreciate the reliability aspect and the hp and tq gains through the rev range.
Coming from ulh and a good turbo back setup, I couldn't agree more with you, they sound amazing. But after being on the setup for a while, I decided reliability was more important than sound, and with the elh setup.
Do you have a pic of your seatbelt buckle set up? I know the seat belt receptacle is attached to the floor bracket. I wanna see what bolts you used.
Unfortunately I don't, but I'm assuming the stock bolts were used as I don't think the Recaro seats come with additional bolts for the seatbelt buckle floor bracket. I'm sorry I'm not much of help here as I got the seats installed by a workshop.
Is tune required to swicth from unequal to equal?
Yes, definitely recommend getting a tune.
Does the heat function still work with the Recaro?😊
My STi didn't come stock with heated seating. I do know you can get the Recaro seats optioned with seat cooling though, not sure about heating.

Awesome! Always feels great to set a new PB. Not familiar with that track but some of the lines in your track video look like you might benefit from staying wider longer on entry and apexing later. Might help connect some of those corners better. Keep having fun and improving. Love the seats by the way. I have an '18 STI and the stock recaros are one of my biggest gripes about it. They need so much more bolstering to properly enjoy what the car is about. <3

Nice! I see you have the GFB blow off valve. Is it to atmospheric? If so have you any any issues. Want to get one, but I see so many different comments about it. Luv the sound it makes.

Thank you! It's still a bypass valve, so it re-circulates the air back, just handles more pressure than stock.

We have similar engine bay mods lol. I have the compressive tuning air blades, Cobb shroud, and Cusco strut bar. You need some Billetworks caps and a SuperStik dipstick!!

You can get side airbags as an option for these seats.

Hi, do you have any estimate how much taller it gets in terms of sitting position? Ideally i like lower driving position
It's really hard to gauge now that my stock seats are gone, but it's noticeable enough to make a difference. Personally, I don't mind it, considering I've taken it to track now.

Higher, they are higher than the stock seat at its lowest setting.
Why not all T3 dba's? Is there a performance reason for running T2's on the rear?
Was a budget decision at the time.
Popping the hood struts off would've saved you some twisting and time with those shrouds, good vid though!!

Awesome vid dude loving the progression. Luddenham is such a great beginner track. I know it doesn't go along with the "daily" ethos but a set of Semi's will drastically improve your confidence - especially when you get to the big boy tracks like SMSP GP.

Great video! I have an 2018 wrx sti and its jumping like a kangaroo through the first 2or 3 gears. Do have the same feeling with a stock car that the first3 gears are little difficult to drive in? It feels like the engine mounts are broken but i already made them new. How do feel about your clutch upgrade?
Love the instant torque feeling with the stock turbo, I'm not a big fan of too much lag, definitely more of a responsiveness fan. I've managed to get used to the responsiveness around Luddenham so don't mind it at all. The clutch is awesome, it literally feels like stock tbh.
