    This is a problem I am grappling with at the moment so I was so pleased when your video arrived in my feed that I tried it immediately. Doesn't work for me on a Mac mini. There is still a gamma shift downwards (or numerically upwards!) on the upload to TH-cam compared to the file viewed locally in the QuickTime viewer. So I am still looking for a way of viewing videos in the DaVinci viewers which reflects what I will see when they are uploaded to TH-cam.

    • @TransientMobile
      @TransientMobile 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hello @Stanthebop, Check these preferences: Under System/General make sure "Use Mac Display Color Profiles for Viewers" is on. and "Automatically tag Rec.709 Scene Clips as Rec.709-A" I believe that should fix it on your end. Letting Resolve know it's in a Mac viewer environment. I did a test on my screen vs. playing on TH-cam and got a match.

    Thanks for this. As I'm using a PC, is Rec 709A only for when coming out of a Mac computer?

    • @TransientMobile
      @TransientMobile 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Rec 709-A tells the QT Player to adjusted the gamma to what should be expected. So you should see a perfect 1:1 from inside Resolve to QT player. The Rec709 tag is for Mac displays from what I can find. So long at you get the same results on upload. Your good. If you tag just Rec 709 in PC you should still have the same levels. Thanks

    This is a very nice way to remove an object, especially in a shot with a huge area of like-colored scenery to pull from. I’ve got a great scene I filmed for my forthcoming horror film….I got home, looked at the footage on the monitor and saw this round fuzzy grey/black dust spot that I couldn’t see on set. • @PanAthen
    @PanAthen หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm sorry but this is a very wrong method. Following this will destroy completely the audio and provide a 5.1 mix that will sound heavily weighted in one side (probably left), you will have phase cancelations and phasing on the right and center, and the LFE is probably going to sound clipped in any theater configured with +10 on the LFE. It will also fail all QC tests for 5.1 in serious establishments/platforms.

    • @TransientMobile
      @TransientMobile หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree, this isn't a replacement. But this has been done in commercial release content for theatrical releases. The routing takes care of any weighting issues. It's a solution if you do not have access to stems for proper 5.1 mixing. If you look at the monitoring output it's comparable to the provided 5.1 mix.

    • @PanAthen
      @PanAthen หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TransientMobile I disagree, if it was used for commercial releases then those releases sound wrong. For starters you have the front left channel routed to the center which is just wrong. If you want to create a LCR mix from a stereo you should just first process the stereo with a Mid-Side processor and route the Mid signal to the center and 10-35% to the front left/right, and then route the side signal to the front left/right. If you have to isolate voices it's another story. The center channel according to the academy recommendations should carry only the voice, but with a LR stereo you could recreate a LCR mix using mid-side or other more advanced techniques. Another big mistake in your workflow is that the LFE should only contain low-frequency enhancement signals and not any of the material. In an extreme case that you really need LFE form stereo, although you shouldn't, then use bass management plugins which are free and never have a full signal on LFE because in most of the theaters will be amped at +10dB, which in your case would sound horrible. Also, the LFE channel should contain only band-limited content and not full range. The levels you do on the end that make the meters look similar have nothing to do with what I say and does not prove that you have a similar material with the stereo, not even close. You can find all the information here: www2.grammy.com/pdfs/recording_academy/producers_and_engineers/5_1_rec.pdf

    • @TransientMobile
      @TransientMobile หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PanAthen I don't see where I have it panned front left to center. I have Left to front left, center to mono, Right to Right front, etc. For the LFE I rolled off with a low pass filter so it only contains low frequency info. If someone is trying to do a faux 5.1 this is a way to fill non existent channels with according channel information. It's certainly not a replacement for having a proper multi-channel mix. Feel free to make a tutorial showcasing the mid-side approach for LCR. I'd love to check out other ways of doing it. That said I've created faux 5.1 for studios releases in theaters, approved by producers and directors using this method. They were expecting something workable that was within time / budget and were satisfied with the results.

    Is rendering the primary use for versioning? My thought was to color grade a clip a few times and then compare them to choose the best. How to compare is the question. Can we wipe from one to the other?

    • @TransientMobile
      @TransientMobile 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can use if for which ever purpose you need it for. Certainly for comparing your grades. I've seen it used mostly for different looks for a scene etc. Where you can then choose the overall look based on the versions you created. If you grab a still you could wipe versions. But I believe that feature is on the giant $27K Advanced Panel. You could grab each still and rename them. Or make your own shortcut keys. Would be a nice option to have by default.
