Been working on many many projects but I wanted to show off this fun little one. I have a soft spot for hardware store builds and making things that are functional and fun, this one checks most of those boxes, printable in PLA or better filament and wont break the bank at about $180 in parts, springs, bolts, and filament.

    Hey Heywood! Actually just started looking into those myself, but the jigs I see online all seem way overpriced! Definitely will be going the print route, but the $150 on mcmaster carr shopping list feels kinda steep as well to be honest.

      Agreed - I had a 5D Tactical jig but my desire to spread the signal means sometimes the signal does not come back... I am working to both improve and make less reusable the AWCY? jig to save on costs in some areas and increase costs in others (minimally) For instance the base plate is a simple SCS peice and the side clamping plates can be the same which reduces the Drill Bushing costs. Nothing will ever be super cheap for this task but I am hopeful that the costs could come down over all albeit with some loss in reuse in some components - but that is why we can just reprint too!

      @@3DPrintGuns That's awesome! I'm just stepping into all this after doing a bunch of printing. When looking into jigs, they all seem more or less like a bunch of metal plates bolted together so I was surprised none of the diy designs I could find used SCS, glad to hear that's a route you're exploring! As awesome as the improvements we've seen for 3d printed designs, I wish we could see more tools and jigs for the apartment room machinist. Not sure if you've seen it, but the FCG housing on the JLC-24 mark serbu covered was all router machining with 3d printed guides and looks really impressive!

    If I had a nickel for every integral proto-barrel idea I've had, I'd have enough nickels to cover the tax stamp that I really don't want to pay on $25 worth of parts. Alas, I love my dog and dislike tax, so they're still just ideas and not reality.

    • @3DPrintGuns
      @3DPrintGuns ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the same printer and have gone on the same journey. The easiest way is to get Klipper, either via a Sonic Pad, BTT Pad7 or a mother board change this will help you adjust and alter the firmware without recompiling firmware which can be a chore. The next item is making sure you have the right hot end and nozzle - I have a older style with a MicroSwiss Direct drive and copper heat plate with 60W thermistor, finally you will need a tungsten carbide nozzle (no others are worth the money, I have bought Ruby, Diamond, and hardened all are in the trash and my TC nozzle has run for 2 years now just fine. Elmers glue on the build plate and dry your nylon in an oven and you are good. Optional items are enclosure and filament drier while you print like the Thorsten. It is a bunch of stuff but once you get there you will be super stoked.

      @@toddroles3234 Chasing down calibration is tough especially because each change can affect something else - the main calibration objects too start with are - X-Y-Z (this example), Temp towers, and Retraction towers, my printer is often off in flow - not the length of the filament but rather how much the nozzle extrudes - for those I use a single wall calibration that with a .4 nozzle should print a single thin wall of .42 - my printer will often print up to a .54 wall so over extruding. Best of luck getting it all calibrated - once you do you will really know your printer and material.
