Road Trip EP55 Mother Lode
Travel with Huell to Gold Country on this very historic road trip. Most people assume “gold country” is all mining tours and gold panning, but Huell finds lots of hidden gold! We visit Moaning Caverns, which are big enough to fit the Statue of Liberty, a historic pipe organ, and a wonderful museum in Angels Camp and a giant gold nugget housed in a winery. There’s also a very important Mark Twain connection, a very historic hotel in Murphy’s and a stop at the Calaveras Jumping Frog Jubilee. We’ll even meet a historic jackass named Mollie.

Wow!
Your presentation is really very attractive and amazing. I really love your presentation! However, I think your video should get more exposure and I guess I can help you with that. Can we discuss further?
Dreamy
I love watching Huell Howser show growing up.
The only way hetch hetchy can come back and have San Francisco still have fresh drinking water is to build desalination plants with giant size versions of this. th-cam.com/video/qLXOvMWwz20/w-d-xo.html
Wonderful show, forest ranger did an excellent job as guide for Huell.
Miss you, MR. Huell Howser, a lot! Watched every show! Visited many locations due to his shows!❤️
Thanks for uploading all this, only wish all the thumbs weren't the same. Still, pretty cool. I used to watch all the time back when I lived on the central coast.
Restore Hetch Hetchy to its Former Glory.
Excellent production.
I miss him 🙏😩
Wow. Very interesting and educational.
⛰️
I lived out at China Camp on the outskirts of San Rafael in 1993. Rented a room from a nice young married couple and worked as a waiter at Chevys in Greenbrae. Only lived there for 6 months. They had a baby and I moved out within 8 weeks. That little girl cried 24/7. She’s 30 years old now. It goes quickly. It goes so terribly fast.
I loved Huell Howser. I watched almost all his shows❤
This episode is noteworthy for being the episode in which Huell gets legitimately ticked off at his guides during his “adventure.” Thankfully everyone survived!
An update and correction for everyone regarding this property…. China Camp is no longer a State Park, it is unfortunately now under a 501 called “ Friends of China Camp” Highly disappointing and should be declared illegal. The Friends of organization has been caught using poisons to control unwanted plans, a huge issue given that the area is surrounded by original wetlands home to numerous endangered species. When I asked about this, they just shrugged their shoulders and said it needed to be done, no matter what. They have become nearly militant in their demands for trail fees, No longer offering a disabled discount pass making the park absolutely inaccessible for people on a limited income. It’s really unfortunate since I used to frequent the park on a weekly basis but due to being on disability income, the property is no longer an option for me nor several friends in the same financial constraints to visit. It appears the state park system is not going to take the property back….ever. Just for people who may think that the photograph for this episode was not taken at China Camp State Park. It was taken at Carrizo Plain. National Monument, Although there are wonderful patches of wildflowers available at China camp, it’s nothing like the photograph where Huell is sitting amongst the flowers.
jeeeez... LOVE ALL THINGS HUELL ! And btw ... can you see how much more beautiful women are without those nasty tattoos ! sorry off topic but I cant help it . jeeeez
His positivity and smile was the best part of him ! "Louie, was this the best show we've ever done ?" 🤣🤣🤣 RIP Huell, so many of your fans miss you !
According to people who had the misfortune to have worked with the production he aggressively harassed every male in his vicinity for sexual favors while working. Not going to go in to the details it is not my story to tell other than they were absolutely shocked at the behavior especially as the circumstances were such that they could not simply leave and had to deal with this aggressive behavior for over an hour.
I miss his TV show. He took us to places we might never see. He died too young. RIP Huell.
Huell wanted to sock that wise guy in the eye after he gave him that garlic 😂

They believe it will be 2026 before everything is fully restored at the Castle, the walkway over the creek, Titus canyon--and whatever else was destroyed by the lake and floods that destroyed so much. I suspect there will be some damages that never are restored. I'd hoped to make the trip again this year (I've gone many times in the past) but too much was just inaccessible that I canceled plans.
