Hi. As you see the hub type C port will connect to your laptop which will be dual purpose of power supply to the hub and receive data from the source as USB or the HDMI. Hi RN. Thanks for asking for my feedback. I have been using this now for almost one year, on avg 10 hrs a day. And till date not faced any issues. Yes it gets warm but not that much heat. When I contacted customer support they confirmed, that's 'coz of it's metal body and by design it helps to release the heat out of the connector. It connects to the Mac with a C-type wire, so unlike the connectors which are directly in contact with the Mac and make the Mac body heated. It's safe to use. Absolutely. You can transfer data across Mobile and PCs. (Windows, Linux and MAC). For latest Mobile and MAC to use this HDD comes with a USB to C-type converter as well.
