ART JOURNAL TUTORIAL: Blend a magazine image by creating a misty effect
If you've been wondering how to blend a magazine image into the background in your art journal, welcome to this magical video! I'm going to teach you exactly that.
I'm sharing a super fun and easy technique to add some pizzazz to your art journal pages: with magic and mist.
We're blending a magazine image right into the background, making everything look seamless and magical by creating mist with easy techniques and without fancy or complicated tools.
Here's what I used:
Acrylic paint (dark blue, white, pink)
Toothbrush
Paintbrush
Gelatos (pink and yellow)
Black ink for splatters (black acrylic paint is fine, too)
A magazine image
Brayer (totally optional)

This is a Marabu brush. They sell in Europe...😁. Maybe you can find it on Amazon. It's called: Marabu Collage brush.
Love all the layers! I think I always stop to soon....too scared to continue on and mess up.
Then decide to mess up on purpose. The most beautiful lessons and skills I've learned were at the moments of playing and messing up :). This is one thing I can always swear works. When you mess up a meal, do you give up cooking and eating? Nooooo...you do it again and again and learn from your messes and mistakes. Look at it that way and try creating things from a new perspective 💛

I absolutely loved this video! You name every product you lay down which makes it so much easier to learn. Many other channels I watch go so fast and don’t tell you what products they are using.

Do you let the paint dry before you add the next step?
At the beginning, when I blend the background, I don't wait for it to dry. But in later steps, I think I did, especially before applying gesso and gluing down the image.

I showed my husband this and your going to laugh he wanted to know when you put the paper of the girl over what you already did why did you cover it up? He said he doesn’t understand lol I laughed and told him I’ll ask her why! lol I have acrylic black and acrylic white medium. Then I just used a couple stamps I had. I’m going to get some numbers and letters. The right kind. Hopefully I’ll find them somewhere. I really had fun with it. I really want to try the Tim Holtz crackle paste. This was so enjoyable to watch and I wanted you to know that! Great video!
My husband also doesn't undesrtand and he always just nods his head in approval and that's it :D. I haven't tried Tim's crackle paste (I have some other), but I'm sure it's cool.

When it dries as a sealer will it be sticky
I haven't noticed that my pages stick. Btw, I'm using MATTE Mod Podge :)

Thank you for taking the time to share this compiled information. I found it very helpful. I am rather new to collage/mixed media and appreciate all of the tips and tricks. Would you happen to know where thete is a good source for the Collage Brush by Maribu? I am a fan of a lot of the Maribu products (especially the gel crayons) however, I am mot having any luck finding that brush. TFS
Heeey! I live in Germany so I can easily find it on German Amazon. I see the US Amazon has none. But I found the similar brush by Mod Podge. If you're in the US, maybe you can try it out (amzn.to/49XpXbf). Also, Ranger Ink also has collage brushes, but I haven't tried them out.
