    Wouldn't it make sense to use a MERV 13 - 16 filter on your HVAC system and just keep the circulation fan on full rime. This would negate having to build or buy these units and use up floor space all over your home.

    A rabbit hole I didn't think I'd go down. I was looking for a air purifier to lessen the dust in my room; as I have a custom pc which gets dusty often. Each product each review I found everyone having the same issues. Trying a different approach and started looking on you-tube to my disbelief to find a video with good information. I don't have any health issues nor allergies just wanted to lessen the dust my room had. I had no idea air quality was so important I currently live in the country side where air is mostly clean and even have a window fan supplying my room with clean outdoor air. Thank you Healthy Home guide for showing all of us this! I don't care how much money I spend on any given product if it works that's all that matters. Paying high prices for fewer results on the other hand is NOT something I want. I will buy the Exhalaron - Versatile Personal/TableTop Purifier for my room and see how well it does, I might buy more for my house. Thanks for sharing this invaluable information!

    Open windows. Outside air is MUCH CLEANER vs indoor air, including cars with windows closed

    • @HealthyHomeGuide
      @HealthyHomeGuide 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Opening windows and using an air purifier don't exactly do the same thing. Air purifiers reduce the overall particle count, and opening windows brings in fresh air, which primarily dilutes the concentration of VOCs and CO2, and also the concentration of indoor-generated particles. However, outdoor-generated particle counts are often surprisingly high. Get a particle counter and test it for yourself. Particles are the exact thing you're trying to reduce with air purifiers, by the way - opening windows often RAISES the overall particle count. Opening windows is not always a healthy or reliable option for diluting the air in one's home. For one, there isn't always enough natural airflow through windows - it's inconsistent. Also, what if it's too humid outside? This can cause extensive mold growth. Too hot? Too cold? Too dry? Poor air quality? It largely depends on your climate, but in the places I've lived, opening windows is not feasible for much of the year - I've tried it. Using an energy recovery ventilator is far superior to opening a window. But most importantly, opening windows is not a substitute for air purification.

    If there is a non-zero chance p of capturing a particle of some size p then each time the particle goes through the filter it has an r chance of being captured. After n number of passes the probability is (1-p)^n. E.g., if p = 0.75. 75.00, 93.7500, 98.437500, 99.6093750, 99.9023438, 99.9755859, 99.9938965, 99.9984741, 99.9996185, 99.9999046, 99.9999762, 99.9999940, 99.9999985, 99.9999996, 99.9999999 If p = 0.995 99.500, 99.997500, 99.9999875, 99.9999999, 100. E.g., at 2.5x cfm the 0.75 gives 75.00, 99.2187500, 99.9755859, 99.9992371, 99.9999762, 99.9999993, 100.000000, So what is important here is if the filter can actually capture the finer particles with some probability. p := 0.15 15.00, 43.3804726, 62.2850484, 74.8776149, 83.2656756, 88.8530643, 92.5748914, 95.0540454, 96.7054399, 97.8054537, 98.5381862, 99.0262681, 99.3513854, 99.5679500, 99.7122063 A 15% chance takes a much longer time. A 1% almost never happens: 1.00, 3.4564685, 5.8519851, 8.1880621, 10.4661746, 12.6877606, 14.8542229, 16.9669291, 19.0272132, 21.0363758, 22.9956854, 24.9063791, 26.7696630, 28.5867137, 30.3586782 (as likely the generation rate is faster than the removal) The best thing is to have a combinational system. One that removes the larger stuff faster and one that removes the smaller stuff.

    he got paid to encourage you to buy that crap. Folks...just ventilate your homes by opening doors and windows when is cold in the morning (during summer) and warm in the afternoon (during winter) and then use your air conditioner/furnace few extra minutes to compensate for lost energy inside your home and....that is it. An outside thermometer showing relative humidity will help and its just around $10. ERV installation cost is $3 - 6 grand, dehumidifier install cost for whole house is can range $2.5 - 3.5 grand. You will never recover cost of those devices and you will pay more for electricity. ITS JUST NOT WORTH IT....but it's just my opinion. HVAC industry come up with worthless gadgets all the time and they try to make money on it. Some of their product are good but rest of it is just pure...and expensive junk.

    • @HealthyHomeGuide
      @HealthyHomeGuide 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No, I was not paid to tell you to buy the items in this video. If my content is sponsored, I will always clearly disclose that. None of my content is sponsored yet. I make these video because I've suffered from environmental illness, and I want to help ensure that what happened to me doesn't happen to others. I've tried your ventilation strategy and it did not work for me - I live in the northeast US. Opening windows is often not a healthy or reliable option for diluting the air in one's home. For one, outdoor-generated particle counts are often surprisingly high. Get a particle counter and test it for yourself. Though it does help to dilute the concentration of VOCs and CO2, opening windows often RAISES the overall particle count. Also, there often isn't enough natural airflow through windows - it's inconsistent. Also, what if it's too humid outside? Too dry? Too hot? Too cold? Using an energy recovery ventilator is far superior to opening a window. I have videos where I demonstrate DIY installs of both an ERV and a dehumidifier. It doesn't have to be as expensive as you say, though it usually is for a professional install. For those on a tighter budget, I also have a video where I show how to build a DIY fresh air system for a fraction of the cost of an ERV, but of course, without the energy recovery benefits.

      By intake, I mean the air from your room that gets sucked into the AC to be cooled and recirculated back into your room. I'm filtering it so the AC itself doesn't become a mold breeding ground. @@HealthyHomeGuide my main problem is they smoke in the terrace every 20 minutes, and that's my ventilation point. i cannot let the doors and windows opened while i sleep otherwise i wake up breathing their tobacco. or coronavirus. so i try and ventilate before they wake up, and always less than 20 minutes. i hear their walking when they go upstairs to smoke. it's the upper part of the 3 stories house, and because hot air goes up ( reason why balloons can fly) the bad used air from my entire house with more dust and moving particles are asking for exit in the door to the terrace. then the cold air gets it, included smoke if neighbors are awake. i don't have air conditioneer, i think it is unhealthy to not face the normal weather, feeling the cold of winter and the hot of summer. although last 4 years i've been using mountaineering diwn feathers bed and clothings for comfort but since the 80's i just normalized the fact that i remained frozen for 3 months and live through this estoic condition, although sabadell barcelona has weak weather. i take cold baths a la wim hof with the hose all year long. but again, when doing this and need to hyperventilate, sometimes i breath the fumes of tobacco. or when i just go for 5 seconds outside to fart, or just going out, i end up breathing the tobacco. i quit tobacco 6 years ago and started gym and 555 days ago antiaging hyper supplementation. then last year i bought 2 units of ikea purifiers fürnuftig and 30 spare filters. i clean it once a week with air compressor for a longer life and proper filtering without self toxifying. my bedroom now is a temple, oasis with less dust in the air. i will buy a 3rd unit, maybe a 4th. i also move around one of the air purifiers half an hour to the many rooms of the big house. but you know, we exhale CO2, we consume 02, so after a while we do need to open wide all doors and windows. in my case it's 21 things to open. but it is ruined if they are smoking on top. the tobacco would go downstairs and remain at my house everywhere at least one hour, more time than their often cigarrettes, and since they are 2 person it can be anytime. for them the smoke is gone in seconds, for me it ruins my home and health. i don't talk them anymore for that reason. they gave me corona several times in my sleep, same as i woke up with ashma for their smoking to my bed from the ceilings window of my attick room, even if i was extremely locked, going outside almost like a beekeeper. and they have air conditioneer, which motor noise ruins my music home studio. their comfort and vice are my problems.

      @@HealthyHomeGuide it's not multiple people buildings, but 2 houses that touches to each other. i also have noise problems, 2 houses away a bassist transmits the vibrations through solids, since one year ago. i am a singer and cannot record properly because his music gets into my mic, and i cannot sleep, he would play any hour, no matter if day or night, and sometimes up to 14 hours non stop, he is an inmigrant from santo domingo, he owns a discotheque and has a music group, everything is about his folklore in a exagerated manner because he lives in spain. the law is weak here, police don't do anything. at least with the white noise of the motors of the air purifiers i can mask his training bass. he doesn't want to use headphones and he plays as loud as in a concert. no other neighbour protests, i tried and talk to him but he threatened me and his whole family insulted me several times, i had to run away when i tried and ask him to stop, one of them shown me a knife, he braggs at making noise, no matter if it's 2, 4 or 6 of the deep night. i've been making music for 3 decades enjoying the silence. the lows of bass are unstoppable, but still lower decibels as to be considered illegal, but way enought as to wake me up if i was sleeping, and not let me read or do my things if i am awake. my family lives here since 7 decades ago. he is just renting. the owner of the house plays dumb because earns lot of money the bassist can afford thanks to the discotheque of their kind, which is lucrative ghetto. i am 46 years old, from 1978 and until 1998 i enjoyed a city without inmigrants, without any problem. everything wrong nowadays.

    How much difference does the MPR rating make please?.. Is there a range that is good for these DIY boxes?.. I found these: 14x24x1 Air Filter MPR 1500 Healthy Living Ultra Allergen 6 Pack- £50

    • @HealthyHomeGuide
      @HealthyHomeGuide 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      MPR rating does make a difference. MPR 1900 is essentially equal to MERV-13, which is best. MPR 1500 is MERV-12. That is also good.

      @@HealthyHomeGuide Thanks. I found these: "Filtrete 16x20x1 Air Filter, MPR 1500, MERV 12, Healthy Living Ultra-Allergen 3-Month Pleated 1-Inch Air Filters, 6 Filters" - £50. I wonder if I could make a triangle one (so got enough to make 2) and stick a 140mm PC fan on each side. Do you reckon they would have enough power to pull through 3 of them?.. I wouldn't want them going anywhere near full blast coz of the noise. Might be better off with the other ones, slightly more filter for the price: 14x24 = 336 sq inch 16x20 = 320 sq inch

    Dehumidifiers do not cool a space at all. They actually heat it up a little bit with their fan and compressor motors.

    • @HealthyHomeGuide
      @HealthyHomeGuide 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Correct. I didn’t say dehumidifiers cool a space. I said they can supplement an AC for moisture removal. To be perfectly clear, I was saying that dry mode on ACs cools a space.

      Good luck! It will reduce the amount of dust, which should indirectly reduce the amount of bacteria. For concerns about bacteria, microfiber mopping is best. I'm working on a video about that.

      @@HealthyHomeGuide is it possible if you could do a test for pull and push airflow setup? I was thinking the same setup but a pull airflow instead, it would then trap large particle like furs in the air filter rather than having the fur exposed on the outside of the filter which potentially be circulated into the air again if the power is being turned off.

    • @HealthyHomeGuide
      @HealthyHomeGuide 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      For air purifiers, I feel the fan should be blowing upwards, for two reasons: 1.) If you blow air downward into the box, there's a lot of turbulence that reduces the air flow rate. 2.) By pulling air through the filters before it hits the fan, the fan will stay cleaner.

      I don’t know about all that, but my anecdotal experience is that the rooms where I have these CleanAirKits vs. rooms where I don’t have a huge difference in dust. Confession time: I don’t dust often; so this show can accurately tell what the reason for dust difference is.

    you can make it more "compact" just by placing the vents from the outside in the bottom and the vent inside on the top. then it would cover the window, but at least you'll have floor space. the trubulance from the air turning 90 degrees twice might aid in the heat transfer

    I have come to conclusion that it’s easier to just open a window. 😮

    • @HealthyHomeGuide
      @HealthyHomeGuide 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      For one, opening windows and using an air purifier don't exactly do the same thing. Indeed, opening windows is not always a healthy or reliable option for diluting the air in one's home. There isn't always enough natural airflow through windows - it's inconsistent. Also, what if it's too humid outside? Too dry? Too hot? Too cold? Poor air quality? Using an energy recovery ventilator is far superior to opening a window. Most importantly, opening windows is not a substitute for air purification.
