Insides And Outsides
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 13 ก.พ. 2024
An eclectic mix of music inspired by nerdy ideas from mathematics, occasional songs, piano performances, and whatever else happens to be passing through the creative ether on a given day. Insides And Outsides is the musical identity of Mike Torr, an experienced keyboardist with a history of touring and recording, who has gone to ground in Bonnie Scotland to produce music beneath a slate roof in an old farmhouse. Congratulations on your new release Mike! Your inspirational music and story telling made it a wonderful and memorable experience.
Thank you Marie-Anne. Have a great New Year!
Hey there, friend! You’ve got great content-a solid script, good editing, lighting, and sound, and you speak well. I’d like to invite you to join my project-it’s a new channel about mountaineering and thrilling stories, and we’re already seeing some success (one of our videos is about to reach over half a million views). I’ve put together a good team; we have a writer and an editor, but we’re really missing someone on camera to bring these stories to life. Working on our project won’t take up much of your time, and it could be a great opportunity to try yourself out in a different niche on TH-cam. If you are interested in this offer, we can discuss it in more detail
Many thanks for the compliment and the offer! However, I'm not really looking for a "TH-cam career", sorry. I wish you every success with your channel.
Heard on PMP today Love this vibe thank you 🎉
Hey that's great to hear! Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment, I appreciate it.
Update, 2024-09-23: I had the lens replacement for my right eye a few days ago, and it's made an amazing difference to my vision! I'm so happy with the results - I can drive, use a laptop, and even my phone - all without glasses, wow. I'll be having the left eye done in a few more weeks as well, so my schedule will continue to be disrupted... however, I'll be working on my videos as often as I possibly can. Please be patient - I'll be back. Thank you, everyone :)
Sounding great!
Remarkable piece!
Thank you very much!
Beautiful - this sounds like it would make a wonderful soundtrack.
Thank you. And it's interesting that you should say that... the first piece was actually written originally as an orchestral one, and features in a short film I made with my son as a summer project :) You can find it here: vimeo.com/48216306
@@InsidesAndOutsides what a great thing to have!
Really interesting. I came from the Postcode site. Will keep up with your videos.
Hi, and welcome, and I'm glad you found it interesting! I'm working on video number 3 at the moment (2 is already up), but I've been a bit held up by a computer failure so it's all a bit behind schedule. Back soon, I hope!
This has gone on my Lovely Stuff playlist. Not sure I completely understood the technical bits [maybe it would help if you had flares and a wing collar] but the video was very interesting and had humour, too. I didn't mind the sound quality, which I didn't really notice until you pointed it out. Loved the photo at the start, which I can't even remember seeing before, although I must have! Also the shot of you (')in the field('), looking rather Detectorist. Great work in this post, which humanises as well as explains your music. Both this video and your work in general deserve a much bigger audience.
I did wonder whether mentioning the poorer sound quality would just draw attention to it! Never mind, I'll definitely improve it for the next video - and expect the sense of humour to continue in that one as well: I actually have something planned :) Thank you so much for your kind comments! I'm now considering travelling back in time to present for the Open University. I don't have flares or a wing collar, but it's possible I still have a corduroy jacket somewhere...
Just wanted to pop up and say sorry about the audio quality this time, which isn't up to my usual standard - I've been pretty tired this week and I dropped the ball on a few things. Hopefully it won't make too much difference, but I wanted people to know that I am aware of the issues! Next time I'll try to concentrate 😐
Enormous fun - put a big smile on my face!
Very pleased to have made you smile! Thank you.
amazing!
Thank you!
Great job !
Merci beaucoup, Addie!
satisfyingly mechanistic and boldly bluesy
Thanks! The final piece will be released tomorrow, along with the full album on Bandcamp.
it's beautiful.
Thank you very much!
This video brilliantly explains the mathematical structure you have applied Mike, your musical talent and clear explanations make it truly outstanding!
Thank you so much Marie-Anne! I'm working on the script for the next one at the moment, which includes an explanation of Ring Modulation. It's a bit of a brain-twister to explain it as well I would like to, so it's taking a while :)
Not for beginners! Very impressive and entertaining.
Perhaps not for beginners, but I've always thought this one is easier than it sounds. Once you get the weird time signatures it's just about sight reading really. I'd say it's probably "moderate" level. Glad you enjoyed it!
Even better than I thought it would be - very interesting and a well-put-together video. You look so happy and fulfilled 🙂
Thank you! I'm glad you found it interesting. I'm already planning the next one... I've set myself the tough challenge of trying to explain in an accessible and intuitive way what a Ring Modulator does.
Excellent !
Thank you Addie, glad you liked it!
I hope you enjoyed finding out more about the process behind "Twisty"! One small correction: At 7:48 I talk about "120 chords" and "120 notes" etc. I actually meant to say "120 repeats", which is 600 chords or notes (because each repeat would have five). 600 slow chords would indeed take way too long for a sensible track!
Lovely video, well-matched sequences. Happy and sad music, which I'm sure is what you were after. Well done!
Thanks :)
Good dance track, retro holiday outdoor rave vibe. My favourite bit is the 'backwardsy' bit at 2:18 (audio- and video-wise). What programme was the Simon Morice sample from?
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I remember Simon was making a documentary about networks and their effect on the world, or something - I'm unsure whether it got finished and released, but I did send him a link to this video so perhaps he'll drop by and update us!
Love it!
🙏😃
Wow fantastic👏👏
Thank you! 🙏
You play so well an I enjoyed watching it. LIKED & SUBSCRIBED.
Many thanks! Five more piano music videos will follow this one, all released on Sundays - and the album will be on Bandcamp on June 23rd, at the end (it will be free because this is basically a promo for my book).
@@InsidesAndOutsides Thanks for keeping me informed. Looking forwards and wishing you all the best!!
I really appreciate it dear friend😊
Thank you, I'm glad you like it!
Congratualtions on a stunning release Mike and what a remarkable achievement. Your music brings out so many rich textures, rhythms and colours together with your visuals, enriching the listening experience even more! Love your work! Bravo!
Thank you so much Marie-Anne! And also thank you for donating the stills and video for Pole To Pole - they were very useful.
A masterpiece, Mike! So glad to be able to enjoy your explanations and the comments of @koen martens live whilst watching the premiere. The sounds and images were well chosen and all your hard work planning, playing and editing has paid off. Stands up as an art film of some kind, not just an album. I think the mountain lions knew you were on their side.
Thanks very much for those kind words! :) As I just commented on Mastodon, this felt to me almost like playing on stage, an experience I've not had for a few years and miss a lot. It was a real boost for me.
Thank you for watching! Please leave a comment with your thoughts, reactions and questions. If you liked the music, don’t forget to follow me on Bandcamp. insidesandoutsides.bandcamp.com
Fantastic promo - very exciting!
Thanks very much! I'm looking forward to sharing the whole album with all the videos I'm making :)
