The Family was the 1st band Prince signed to his label Paisley Park. They continue on as fDeluxe, and it's their 32nd year of "great musicians making funk ass music" according to Nelson George. Questlove said they are "one of my favorite bands ever!"

True story- We were on the VIP paisley Trip, and St Paul Peterson joined our tour. He went behind the pianos at studio B and sang part of this beautiful song. Just for us. Special moment snd I balled my eyes out.
Small notes from my childhood...The Family's recording of this will always remain the definitive version for me. Thus is simply gorgeous.
how did it take till just now to find this video?? Thank you all for having been part of the family when it formed and released this album. When it was released, I bought and listened to it as soon as it was on sale. every song was great. screams of passion was my favorite back then, though when the other version became a hit, this one was my version to put on every time id heard the radio playing the song. beautiful rendition here. thanks again for your music!

Wow, I was born after The Family released their album. My cousin told me they were such a great group and to check them out. I listened to live versions of mutiny, St. Paul was so dang soulful and with so much swag. Listening to him sing this, God his voice is so beautiful. Much much better than the Sinead version. Thank you for this much!

Wow, this version is as good as the Album-take. His voice hasn‘t changed in 30 years. I always loved the arrangement of the original - no synthies, no drums nor percussions, just voice and strings.
I love this song. It's so sad and at the same time so beautiful. I love Clair Fischer's string arrangements that were on The Family's debut album as well as other Prince related music at the time, but it was extra special with The Family. Man, how blessed I am to have lived in the 80s to hear it back then and remember the feeling today!
