United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 7 ส.ค. 2020
We design, build and update homes in and around the Puget Sounds and Seattle area. The primary focus of our builds are to craft homes that last many lifetimes, are architecturally interesting by means of the structure, our selected material story, landscaping or ideally all of the above. We also have the intent on doing so on a reasonable budget. We believe you shouldn't have to spend a million or more dollars to have a lovely, efficient, well appointed and built home. Join us.
HU5TLE - 1937 Remodel - Footer Cut In
🏗️ Making Way for a New PSL Beam !
This video takes you through the gritty steps of cutting in new footers for a structural beam down in the basement. We're talking serious tools, from industrial floor saws to wet vacuums for collecting slurry.
Here's the rundown: First up, the lines were with a protective clear coat so they’d stay visible despite all the water spray. Then the cutting.
Next, the team lifted out chunks of old concrete. After scoring each section, they used wood wedges and bars to pry out the concrete, revealing some cool old subway tiles hidden beneath from the house’s original build. A touch of history, a lot of sweat, and progress toward a strong base to support the updates!

Why the “Belt and Suspenders” Metaphor Doesn't Work for me when talking about construction. 🚧🏡👷♀️ "Hey y’all, happy Tuesday! 👋 I’ve been thinking a lot about the 'belt and suspenders' metaphor that gets tossed around in construction. You’ve probably heard it when people talk about adding redundancy to building systems. But here's the thing: in real life, you don’t see people wearing both a bel...

HU5TLE - Measurement Help
มุมมอง 174 หลายเดือนก่อน
When it comes to remodeling, here’s a game-changing hack: measure from hung drywall patches, not studs with a laser! Why? Drywall gives you a clean, consistent surface, making your measurements super accurate for the final room dimensions. Measuring from drywall is not just easier-it’s way more precise. Hitting studs with a laser? That’s a headache you don’t need. Stick to drywall, and watch yo...

HU5TLE - MAZE Nails - Colored Nails for you next job?
มุมมอง 116 หลายเดือนก่อน
I was interested in using colored nails to avoid having to do paint touch-ups, and I found a company called Maze Nails that offers a variety of options. However, there's a downside: the paint tends to chip off due to the force of the nail gun or impact.
HU5TLE - 1937 Remodel - Sloped studs almost 100 years ago.
มุมมอง 47 หลายเดือนก่อน
A properly sloped window sill is essential for directing water away from your house, preventing mold, wood rot, and structural damage. By angling the sill away from the interior, rainwater is kept from setting on the sill or migrating to the interior. This shows that even in 1937 that certain builders were building with this approach in mind. @stevenbaczekarchitect will appreciate this detail. ...

Trying out the AEROFIXX Kit by pro clima for the first time. As a professional, I need precision and efficiency, and this kit’s high-performance sprayer may be up to the task. I’m still getting the hang of applying the product, especially in tricky areas like window junctions and corners, but it’s promising for ensuring long-lasting air-tightness and energy efficiency. @475.SUPPLY 1. #AEROFIXXK...

WD40 brother. I had similar issue. It fixed the problem.
I was about the buy the pro but this makes me wonder
Hi, for anyone having this issue. They have 150lbs kit and 75lbs kit. One would think the 150lbs is better. Problem is if the door is too light, the soft-closing mechanism won’t work well. So get the 75lbs kit and a solid core door. Cheers !
The doors weren't too light They were solid core.
First!!
Cor a vent is polypropylene, not coated cardboard. Your exterior cladding may determine the type of rainscreen you use. For example, James Hardie does not recommend dimple mat products.
I have no idea what you're trying to accomplish.
this has nothing to do with your video on measurements. This is simply me trying to reconcile an out of square house.
Can you build a pony wall and lay joist on top of them with out any concern about creating a hinge poit on the wall??
I'm a contractor with around 8 years of experience on general construction planing to build a house on a short basement, have done some framing but my building inspector is not sure if the wall is going to be strong enough personally I don't see a problem is a pretty similar foundation to the one on your video, any info will be really appreciated thanks
Why are you putting a joist on top of the pony wall? Why not build the pony wall to whatever height the joist adds on the top?
I know this is late but were you happy with your choice of rain screen? I was going to go with hydrogap that provides 1 mm gap for water but likely no air. I live in the PNW so lots of rain.
Pretty happy. I'd go larger than 1mm though if you're doing traditional siding, 3/8" is recommended, but you could probably get away with 1/4". Have you looked at Benjamin Obdyke Slicker Classic Rainscreen?
yo dont need to put the tape on very well so you can remove it easily for cleaning
The reason the zip and r guard tied is Prosecco supplies zip!
Good to know.
You should just go ahead and delete this video since you have no idea what you're talking about. OSBlock is not an ICF. It's nothing like an ICF. The board that he put on top is NOT how the next course is installed. This video is terrible. Go learn a little about the product before you make a video on it.
Thanks for the insight man. The Savant Power breakers aren't bad in cost they typically have dual inputs and you only need them on the loads that you want to meter or control. Love seeing the options for Heat Pump dryers. Trying to convince the wife to do a custom build for the next home and eliminating roof penetrations and a strong ERV system is a must. The Fotile fridge looks gorgeous. The Ventiques look built for life. My current favorite are the Kul Grills but i'll check out Ventique. OSBlock ...tough competition given it's similar to SIP panels and won't have the ultimate strength of ICF.
I think it will be hard to eliminate all roof penetrations since plumbing is required to vent through the roof, at least here. I've seen the Kuhl girlls, nice as well and the only plus I saw for the OSBlocks was that you didn't need any specialty equipment as with SIP's you're likely to need acrane.
Do you know if the fabric on Mortairvent replaces the need for tar paper behind stucco?
I don't. Never used it for Stucco.
You still need paper. Our Mortairvent does not replaces your WRB, but you don’t need two layers of felt paper. Just one.
Did the Mortairvent bug screen feature on the top and bottom actually work?
Hard to say. Not a ton of bugs out here. Plus I sealed the bottom with liquid flashing.
Hi, who are you? I’m in Seattle and cannot find you. Nothing on your TH-cam account tells me how to contact you.
Hello - What can I do for you?
how did this application work ? I am thinking about using the 6mm for a Ceder Shake install instead of the Benjamin Obdyke rain slicker... thoughts ?
I thought it worked well. I had the framers install it, but since it's simply staple up, it's really easy. I liked the fact that it had the filter fabric attached to it as well to keep any debris outside of the air gap. Basically, no issues to report of.
Can a pony wall be built on a 6 inch ICF foundation
It probably depends on the concrete mix, and what the ICF is sitting on, but generally speaking it shouldn't be an issue. Exterior walls are framed on top of ICF's all the time. A pony wall isn't much different. You'd probably need a grade beam for your ICF pony wall to support the weight of the concrete and structure. You'd want to consult an engineer for that piece. i.pinimg.com/564x/89/47/d5/8947d520f2370d11f7128bf235312966--passive-house-house-building.jpg
Were u able to remedy the problem?
Not with their doors. I had to remove all of them and replace with different ones. Was an utter nightmare. Their support was non-existent and they did nothing to compensate me for any of the issue. Never again with KN Crowder. Use Cavity Slider or EZ next time
how squishy is the Mortair vent?
If there was only a squish meter. It's got some give, but since it's going behind Hardie or siding it has to hold that form after being nailed to allow air and water flow, so strong enough to not flatten. i know that's not a solid answer. Email them and they'll send you a sample pack of their products.
