@@akinaj Nice! I’ve had plenty of book tins which I use as jewellery boxes but this is my first book pot.

It’s on my TBR shelf and I’m pretty sure I read the first chapter as part of a try a chapter vid at some point and liked it enough to keep it. I’ve just never gotten around to it.

Good to know - I’m not very far into either yet. And fingers crossed for less intensely sore today though I’m reluctant to get up - it’s cold and wet!

@@akinaj I did not even notice that and it was already the most gorgeous book I own.

The biography definitely has trigger warnings due to his experiences in residential school but it was really interesting - combining my current sporting obsession with my interest in indigenous stories. I discovered Barrett Browning through uni but she’s got a straightforward, yet gut punching turn of phrase which is what I love in poetry.

@@MayakittenReads I sometimes struggle with poetry, but "straightforward" sounds like something I might like!

@@SueJacksonDE Oh yes. I have very distinct tastes in poetry. Too much metaphor or experimental structures confuse me. I prefer plain english and a strong, easily spoken rhythm. I tend towards what you might term activist poets who can break your heart or punch you in the gut with a perfect turn of phrase, but are clearly understood. Maya Angelou is great, as is the Australian indigenous poet Oodgeroo. I also prefer poetry a can read aloud, because the physical act and the rhythm can be more impactful emotionally.

Thanks! I worked my up to 120 over a few years but it’s been sitting at that for a long time as I sometimes barely make it. Honestly, I include novellas in the short fiction category and I’m fond of that format.

I know, but I also specifically buy the omnibus versions. It’s not much difference to the other collected volumes of comics. I think the only time I’ve bought individual issues was Nnedi Okorafor’s Shuri run.

I have actual read one or two recently, but I really need to get better at it.

Ikm enjoying it so far. YA can be hit or miss for me as I get older, but I’m really liking the mythological elements.

Ha! 😆 I’ve never felt me a buddy read before, so yes, maybe we should. Not this week though - I’ve a Toni Morrison novel to read for uni. But after that there’s a movie and a shorter thing so.. Also - Readathon is in a couple of weeks.

Thank you! I’m always willing to chat about Cranky Ladies of History - I think it was the first anthology I ever crowdfunded. I’m not sure about it’s availability outside Australia -Fablecroft is a small press here - but the ebook is on Aus Amazon so you might be able get hold of it in other countries. The concept started with a comment on Twitter and turned into stories about women in history who weren’t always nice but carved themselves a place in the world with determination. Well worth a read. I’ve read a little more of Sorcerer to the Crown and am enjoying it, but I have an essay for my uni class due this week so it’s on the back burner.

They are very awesome, the bowls and the various types of drink ware are some of the best things to come out of the OwlCrate experience in the last few years. It’s actually terrifyingly expensive for me at the moment due to the exchange rate but I can’t bring myself to stop.

@@MayakittenReads Yeah, it's the most useful thing from my Illumicrate, too. We had snack plates in our September box! :D And we actually had the same book in our August box, I really do need to start reading it sometime soon, I totally forgot about the corgi!

There are two other books by the same author from previous boxes on my TBR shelves so clearly the staff likes her. I should probably pick one up soon - the corgi might convince me. I’m about to have three weeks leave… I have projects in mind but there will be a Dewey’s in there too.

I figured it would be something like that. Means next box could be either or.

Oh, I can’t talk about the damned thing without cursing and I don’t swear much. One of only two truly traumatic reading experiences I’ve had in my life. Dad warned me about the scene, yet I didn’t spot it either.

@@thelibrarianofalexandria6200 I had to give myself rules at one stage to stop myself going completely mad - female/non standard gendered characters (at least in my head - BB-8 & Baby Groot) only bar a couple of exceptions (couldn’t resist 11th Doctor or Wedge Antilles)

They’d so pretty - worth getting the box to collect honestly. I really need to focus on some box book reading in between my uni reading for the rest of the year.
