I am really interested in this, but I am a man and wonder if men can be court reporters

I've been a scopist for almost 20 years, working mostly for reporters in California. I also took a court reporting course and completed theory, but I failed miserably at speed building. Can I take JUST the voice reporting classes at Sarah's school? And can I continue to use Case CATalyst software or would I have to switch to learning Eclipse?

Sarah, how old is too old to start this career? I live in California, I've been retired for over a decade, and I'll be 65 in a few months. But I think I want to work a little bit more, at least part-time. Am I too old to get into it?

To the woman asking about schools, Sarah's school is amazing. It is very flexible. I work a FT job and a PT job, and I complete the classes and study and work on my dictation every moment I can (when I am not working or running kids around). Her classes are very easy to follow, and there is constant communication between the student and instructor. Whenever you have a question, they get back to you quickly. There is a 24-48 hour turnaround time for them to answer questions, but honestly, I typically get my answer the same day, within just a few hours. I feel like Sarah is there holding my hand the entire way, but yet I am doing it at my own pace. She really has a way of explaining content in a way that it sticks.

why don't they just take video and stop typing for ever?

Lol, are we supposed to type all of this without pausing the video ? On a computer keyboard ? Facebook WPM tests across a lot of Facebook users has 105 WPM already in the top 99th, who is typing at 200 WPM? Lol... Like 5 people in the world ? Technically, if you kept on typing this specific video over and over, then it'd become possible, similar to how musicians play the same piece or symphony over and over (then become astoundingly faster at that piece). So I guess 200 WPM is possible in narrow areas, although not any conversation.... It's fun to type, anyway.

Specific installation of Dropbox is critical for CAT software. I have found some Court Reporters that make their Dropbox folder as their CAT user folder. This is a mistake. CAT software accesses realtime files and/or work units continuously. Making the Dropbox folder the same as your CAT user folder can and will result in problems. Just thought I would mention that as I didn't se anything about installation in your webinar. Very nicely done for the subjects it covers! Thank you!
