Matt and Brian Staub practice dinking. Staying compressed is crucial during all dinking drills, this keeps you in a ready position and prevents your head from bobbing up and down which changes your eye level. This is also a great way to practice your short-hopping and blocking technique.

    Which one is Tim nelson? All these videos and that no one ever says the names of the people and describe their outfits so you can tell who they are!

    On the ATP shot, or for any shot, that hits the net post and then land in bounce, is that a "legal" shot? Or by hitting the net post is the ball ruled dead? Thx!

    At ~2:16 another Ernie is pulled off, but unlike the one at ~40 seconds, I believe this one was legal because he stepped around the kitchen, not on it on his way to do the Ernie.

  • @kevinkimball9341
    @kevinkimball9341 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    At ~40 seconds into this one of the players does an "Ernie" and ends the point; however, he totally stepped into the kitchen on the way to the side of the court. I thought that once you stepped into the kitchen, you had to get both feet back into the non-kitchen area BEFORE you could hit the ball out of the air (i.e. volley). In other words, I believe the guy who hit the Ernie illegally volleyed the ball and therefore should have lost the point. Am I misunderstanding this rule?

    • @robertvk1814
      @robertvk1814 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty late reply but future viewers may be interested: He did establish both feet outside the kitchen before hitting the ball. Both feet had touched outside the kitchen before he hit. Quite thoroughly actually.

    Basically this is how you learn control on the soft touch shots. Not once in this video did they demonstrate that you can go in that kitchen if the ball is bouncing in there. There are advantages to doing that but make sure your shots hug that net and guard against the around the net shot and ones directed at your torso.

    Not sure where in Scottsdale they're playing, but like to find out. The guy in the red/black w/white hat (cap) is Dave Weinbach who travels around for tournaments etc. He is one of the most versatile PB players you'll see around. Kinda looks like Woody Harrelson but I don't know if the actor could play like this guy. He's real quick and plays w/a lot of control mixed with speed and placement. V. Interesting!

    I love this sport, and I am just starting to play tournamnets, I was a college tennis player and this sport was easy for me to adjust to.Is it just me or does it seem like the young kid in the black is the only one that hits the ball naturally, like he is the older player with more experience. He controls the flow of the points also. I would love to play against these guys someday.

      +Poach PB I play in the Houston area, we don't have many players to play with and none of them at you guys level. I would love a chance to play out there and improve my game, someday maybe. I playerd number 2 doubles for A&M, so I have a good feel already, plus I am tall,(6"5"), no one has gotten a lob over me yet and I take most balls out of the air at the 8 foot line because of my wingspan. I could use some work on my speed volleys, too slow from tennis I guess LOL Marc

    At 40 seconds you say "in tennis, there is a cross-over step". And you say you can do that if you want. But how can you do that without going into the kitchen? Seems like a bad plan.

      + J Johnson That's what I was going to ask. At 1:07 the player steps into the Kitchen BEFORE the ball lands in the no-volley zone. What is the official rule on this?

    • @jeffross9620
      @jeffross9620 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Breck Greenwall A player can enter the NVZ kitchen at any time so standing there waiting for the ball to drop is fine as long as the player does not volley the ball while in the kitchen. The ball could not be hit in the air from that position so the player correctly lets the ball bounce first which is totally legal.

    • @ConservaT.V.
      @ConservaT.V. 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jeff Ross Ok so let me get this straight--It is perfectly legal to stand in the NVZ as long as the ball bounces in the NVZ first? I was under the impression that the player had to wait for the ball to bounce in the NVZ before stepping in. I just read the Pickleball official rules, and it appears that you're correct, it is fine to hang out in the kitchen, but the ball HAS to bounce in the kitchen before returning, otherwise it is a 'volley'.

    • @jeffross9620
      @jeffross9620 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Breck Greenwall The ball doesn't have to bounce in the NVZ before you step in there UNLESS you are going to hit it. You can stand there all day (although I don't think it is advisable) as long as you don't hit the ball before it bounces while you are in the kitchen. So feel free to step in any time if you need to, but don't volley the ball while standing in the kitchen or it is a fault. Your foot cannot even be touching the Kitchen line if you volley the ball. In reality most people will step in the kitchen, dink the ball back and step out of the kitchen so that they can volley an errant ball if it comes their way!

    these videos are so great for us newbs. I wish youd do a basic video on a forehand stroke like server return a second shot. I see people routinely hit the ball hard and get it just above the net and still have it fall in play. I just cant figure out what i'm doing incorrectly. I either erve meat or hit into teh net.
