We don't know what we are doing, but we are having fun!!!
Scarpa Instinct VS-My First Aggressive Shoe
I made this video a while ago and never posted it. Just thought it might help someone make a decision on a pair of shoes. Again if you have any questions, just leave comments. In about a week I'll have a more in-depth review on our blog.

Madrock Drone Hv- The Most UNDERRATED Climbing Shoe
มุมมอง 9K5 ปีที่แล้ว
This is my first attempt at a climbing shoe review, I'm aware that it rough around the edges but I got tired of editing. If you have any questions I can answer them in the comments!!!! If you want to read more about our take on gear, head over to the gear review page down below! hangboardclimbing.com/gear-reviews/
Wow bro I go to kennesaw and I’m about to get these shoes, was very surprised to see my gym at the beginning
I tried some on. I felt like they were pretty comfy half a size down. The only issue for me was the tow scrunch. The toe box was great. The heel fit me well too.
This guy seems chill. Probably from SoCal
How durable is the drone HV?
A little criticism: try using less uhm when speaking :) otherwise great content 👌
awsome! would downsize this shoe about 1/2 size?
hi from germany ! what size are your scarpas ? got the vsr´s and i want to get the drone, but there´s no store in my area wehre i can try it ... thanks ! great review by the way...
Great video, you should do a video comparing the shark to the drone, I can't decide what to buy, I do all-around bouldering, gym, and outdoor. hardest climb outdoor v10
What size is your Drone vs Instinct? I have a pair of Instincts and looking to buy a pair of Drones. However I don’t know where I can try them.
I’m wondering the same thing. I wear 41.5 instinctVS. Thinking of buying the US 8 in the drone. Did you happen to figure this out?
@@user-jx2zz4lb5d I just bought a pair of the HV's and I like them so far. I wore my Scarpa Instincts in size 42. I ended up going with 42 for the Mad Rock Drone also. For me, they are VERY snug. But not uncomfortable. I tried on the drone in 41.5 and was unable to get my feet in.
@@mikomiko. I’ll order in the same size as well then. Thanks for getting back to me mate. Glad to hear you’re liking them. Do you find them any more sensitive than the instincts? Relative to feeling small foot holds through the rubber.
@@user-jx2zz4lb5d I feel that the Mad Rock has thicker rubber compared to the Instincts. The Instincts were more sensitive. However, I feel very secure with the Drone's. Just a different feeling and I'm getting used to it. I have only been using the Drones for 1-2 weeks.
Sounds good @@mikomiko, thanks for the heads up 👍
"Size 6 solutions" 😂
How did you decide on the hv vs the lv model? Did you find the volume on the drone hv is similar to the scarpa instinct? Thanks!
Did you go .5 down on your haywire? Thanks
Nice review, why didnt you keep going making videos? :O Would you recommend the Drone as an Allrounder Shoe or is the smearing capability too poor? :)
Great review! Please make a review on your Mad rock Haywire c:
amazing look into this shoe! Lots of info and your perspective was really insightful! I hope to see more vids from ya!
Hey bro, could you do a review about your hywire and compared them with the drone? Thanks
Nice dude! You should def start doing more climbing videos.
Dude, you should make some climbing videos!!! Especially if you boulder. Thanks for the video. I have these and am looking at adding maybe the VSR to my arsenal for the softer rubber....Great job bro✌🏽
I just got sum Soill street's lmk if u need a review
I ordered some drones and they came defective there's a big bubble in the front of the toebox and madrock says they can't do anything for me and i quote "Thanks for getting the photos over! I was able to see the bump you mentioned on the right shoe. But I want to mention that no two shoes will look the same, especially in the front toe area. Each shoe is made by hand then the rubber is grinded down." That doesn't mean that the shoe should come with a giant ass bubble and then get told i can't get a new pair i haven't even climbed in them yet... so sad :( what terrible customer service...
this is a good video. keep making them and people will watch
Couldn’t pay attention to your tldr because I was losing it over your phone wall paper lmaooo. Appreciate the insight though, hope to see more of your vids
You’re the first person I have seen review these based on a US 14! 95% of my street shoes are 14’s, wear 13’s in vans. The 47 just seemed like it was way too tight to give any actual benefit. The 48’s “crimp” my toes in just the right way and have thoroughly enjoyed them. These were my first aggressive shoes as well!
Wow I am going through these reviews after a few years away. Glad I could help someone :)
I'm a big footer like you, street-size is US 13. First Instincts were a size 12, which hurt at first but got nice after 3 weeks. Then tried size 13, but those became way too baggy for my liking, especially in the heel. Comfy though. Just picked up a pair of them in size 11, and I'm really surprised at how (relatively) comfortable they are, though that being boulderer-comfort. Over here in the EU they recently started selling Instinct VSR's upto size EU 46/US 12. Given that the softer rubber on them supposedly makes them feel half a size bigger than the VS's, it might be worth a try once those sizes hit the US.
Yoooo that's sick. I will definitely look into it! You understand my pain lol. Thanks dude!
@@thehangboard8726 NP, man! And actually, I was just looking and a vendor on Amazon is currently selling the VSR in a size 13. Might be worth checking
I recently bought a pair of the VS and tried on some VSR's at my local gym. The VS were definitely too tight for me at street size (with both my foot/toe shape and novice status being culprits), but upsizing both the VS and VSR 0.5 size made them equally tolerable. I didn't notice much (if any) difference between the fit of the VS and VSR. I suppose the difference might become more apparent once the shoes are broken in. Again, I'm a novice so take this with a huge chunk of salt.
Really thorough, nice review. Great insight.
Oh my goodness. This is just too ironic: I have both pairs of shoes that you have! First I got the Scarpa instinct VS... and I just got my Madrock drone HVs. Question for you: do you think the next pair of drones you get you will downsize more? I wear a size 12 street size (46 European), and I downsized to an 11.5 for my drones (45 Euro). Did your shoes stretch enough that you would downsize more?
Honestly, if I were to buy the drones a half size down if I were to buy them again. They have broken in probably a half a size. I am probably gonna buy them again (or the Redlines) in a full size down.
Hi I notice you have the haywire in the vid. What sizing do u go for compared to your street shoe size on those pair and is that more of a performance or comfort size fit?
Nghia Nguyen I have haywires in a size 13 compared to my street shoes size of a 14. Definitely think that going down a full size is ideal for performance. They are a pain to break in though.
Nice one❤️🇵🇭
Very insightful, just ordered a pair! Would be interested to see your take on the Sharks.
Funny you should say that lol. I have been climbing in them for about a month now out of curiosity. Subscribe to know when the review drops
How do they compare to your street shoe size. I'm 11.5 and cant decide between the drones in 11 or 11.5
I bought them in a size 14 (my Street shoe size) and they are perfect and comfortable to me. If i was going for that ultra-performance fit, I would buy them a size smaller.
Thanks bro♥️💪
No problem Boblem B)
Drones fit my heel so so well compared to 5.10’s I’ve worn, drones lv are for sure my next purchase for bouldering
That heel is a god send. I also have a pair of sharks and they have a different heel than the drones. For me everything I don't like about the shark's heel was fixed on the drone.
@@thehangboard8726 Do you both have shallow heels? because I do too and the Drones have been the closest fit. Is there any other shoe that fits you two in the heel well?
How many sessions did it take you to break in to them? I find my drones tend to be tighter in air-conditioned climbing gyms, does yours do the same?
Yeah, I usually climb Monday through Thursday and whenever I come back to the gym on Monday they feel kinda tight. Kinda normal for most climbing shoes IMO, but it could also be the fact they are completely synthetic.
