The Mornos Lake, a vital water source for Athens, is increasingly under pressure due to the impacts of the climate crisis. Once reliably replenished by the Mornos River and seasonal rainfall, the lake is now facing shrinking water levels as a result of more frequent droughts and irregular rainfall patterns. As global temperatures rise, these shifts in climate exacerbate the strain on the water supply system, threatening both the quantity and quality of available water. The decreasing inflow from rain and the intensifying demand for water in the region highlight the urgent need for adaptive water management strategies to mitigate the growing challenges posed by the climate crisis.
