    Watched one video and of course we had to watch a bunch of them today after realizing you're about 20 mins south of us in the same growing zone (marshalls creek here). I had a question about the soil blocks. We've been doing soil blocks for about 7 years now and I noticed that you don't upblock or plant directly into the ground even with the 2in blocks. Do you do that for ease with the plug trays? The hardest thing for us has been that soil blocks no matter the size can't be outside during rain so its a rush out then in then back out if we have rain coming through.

    • @hahnacre6339
      @hahnacre6339 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh wow, not far away at all! I use soil blocks mainly as a way to save myself space on the front end of things. If I can time it right and can safely plant out directly from the small blocks I will-it’s mostly my early season flowers I’ll treat this way. Most of my seedlings are potted up for sale from the small blocks. I pot up my own plantings to cell trays so I don’t have a bunch of small groups of blocks wasting space. The tool I use for planting- stand n’ plant- works better if there is a little more soil mass than a small block, which is another reason I’ll eventually use the cell trays. I agree with you about rain being an issue- it makes hardening off more difficult and I also find outside the smaller blocks dry out way faster. Much less room for error in watering!

    • @airpocono
      @airpocono 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@hahnacre6339 Thank you so much for the reply. We are starting some of our fall stuff probably the first week of July and I'm going to try your method of potting up to a 72 cell plug tray from the mini blocks for those. One more question, is there a reason you don't up block the minis into the 2in blocks with the insert for the mini blocks? Thanks again

    • @airpocono
      @airpocono 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@hahnacre6339 at some point I have to make some videos in the early spring with what it looks like with all 2in soil blocks. Its a bit of a pain in the grow tent and greenhouse but like you said, the hardening off its a pain as 2" and 4" blocks cant see rain at all

      standnplant.com - I have seen various forms of this same tool but I really feel this one is the best value for your money. It does work with seeds, you would just have to watch how deep you place the tool so they weren’t planted too deep. Basically if it fits down the barrel, you can plant it!

    Is that bio mulch? Do you think it makes a big difference when you use it? I tried the red plastic mulch over my tomatoes last year and had the worst crop ever… but it might have also just been an off year for tomatoes. Lol. The weeds grew like crazy under the mulch and pushed it up like a parachute with air under it. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I love to see your interactions with your daughter. She is so sweet and you are very patient with her. Great job momma!!

      Aww thank you so much, I appreciate it! ☺️ Yes, we use a biodegradable mulch. I wouldn’t be able to work as much ground as I do without it. There are some weeds (nutsedge) that will push it up a little but then usually the heat takes care of them and it’s not an issue. I’ve never used any other color. I will tell you I had a terrible tomato year last year it didn’t matter what I did! Happy growing!
