Yup - It is a beautiful road above, and worth the hike. That said, we made it up top without too much fuss (MDX), and an Outback was there too (Aug-2024). Wonder if Municipality will repair it... that last spot is trickier than it looks - likely made worse by unsuccessful attempts to spin wheels through it.
Glad you enjoyed the trip! Indeed, the video doesn't quite convey the depth of the ditch. Plus, it's always a good idea to err on the side of caution, as it would really be unfortunate to damage your vehicle and (potentially) get stranded.
There today. Too stormy for goats.
The Vickers looks to be in great shape. Is she still flyable?
Hi! No idea, but it does look good inside and out.
@ Yes she’s a beauty.👍
Nice views! Did this spectacular hike several times when we were younger. Well worth the effort!
It really is!
👍
Insane
Why? :)
Hi, we just went up there yesterday. Thanks for the excellent and clear directions. About 1.5k is now through a wildfire zone from last summer. The trail is still navigable since danger trees and obstacles were removed.
Glad you enjoyed!
is the bulky sized bison male or female
Fully grown males are larger than fully grown females. So, the largest bison are likely male.
Yes, thanks. I’ve got new Toyota Venza SUV AWD Im going to take it Sep 22 weekend now that I see the road and stop likely where you did.

Great video thanks for doing this. Is there still a yola forest service rd. I don't know how far.past it is from the Eaton lake turn
Hi! Don't know about Yola. The only one from a while back which was a prominent FSR that we remember was Maselpanik at 35.7 km from Flood-Hope Road (about 19 km from Eaton Lake / Rec Site turnoff). It's likely still there. As for Yola or any other, if it were there, it would still be there, unless it got overgrown, which takes many years. The only thing that might change is motorized access, if they dug a big ditch or put a gate.
I'd like to say a big THANK YOU for this video, you saved me a huge amount of time and effort. I was wondering if it's possible for me to use this road to get closer to Mount Maxwell. Now I see that my car doesn't have a chance there.
You are very welcome. You may still get to within about 2.5 km of the main observation point in any vehicle, and then hike up - it's not a very steep road to hike on, with almost no traffic and a fine forest all around. If you haven't checked out the trip report yet, here it is www.ihikebc.com/trips/2024/trip307RimTrailMountMaxwellProvincialParkSaltSpringIslandBC.htm
did you see any mt goats?
Not on this hike. But in Northern BC - yes th-cam.com/video/Er6zrU2RiFo/w-d-xo.html There are also wild goats on Saturna Island th-cam.com/video/5JO405JMAn8/w-d-xo.html
It is Tillicum not Trillicum.
Thank you for the correction!
Saturna is truly a special place
Do you mind if I ask what type of vehicle you use? I live near Vancouver and recently got a Subaru Outback, and am curious how it would fare on the roads in your videos
Can't tell what vehicle we are using for privacy reasons, but Outback would do just fine on all the roads we show in videos. Just make sure you have suitable tires.
@@ihikebc2295 ok thank you! Yes getting some falken A/T trails put on soon. Then looking forwards to exploring service roads around Squamish and Pemberton on coming weekends!
This should be fun. As long as you are ready for everything the backcountry can throw at you :) th-cam.com/video/GE5wM5otzU0/w-d-xo.html
@@ihikebc2295 woah. I wasn't planning on needing a kayak! I am trying to get prepared, have BRMB on my phone, tire deflator / inflator, puncture kit, large battery bank, sleeping supplies etc.. I'm wondering though, in your adventures around BC have you found more drastic measures necessary, such as a full size spare, skid plates, traction boards transmission cooler, lift kit etc?
None of what you see in our videos or website requires skid plates, though it wouldn't hurt. Ditto for extra vehicle clearance - the more of it that you have, the farther you will go in many places. A full size spare would be very helpful (and a spare of any kind is a must), as well as bear spray, satellite phone (or InReach satellite texting device), traction mats, and a water treatment device (Grayl geopress is very cool). But, first and foremost, take common sense. It's as beautiful as it is dangerous out there. Watch for road hazards, oncoming traffic, wildlife. Stay away from dropoffs when checking out natural sights, and beware of extremely slippery surfaces of river banks and near waterfalls - things can go South in an instant.
Hi, I did this Lower Reiseter Lake hike 30 years ago!! (July 1992) . The green canoe - a green canoe anyway - was there thirty years ago. I took it for a spin around the lake. Your picture of the campground with picnic table is nearly identical to the picture I took at that same location, from the same vantage point. Believe it or not, the two trees on the left of the picture look to be the same.... (if I had a way to post my picture....)
Forgot to mention...your website is excellent
Thank you for your kind words. Glad you enjoyed!
Back in the mid 70s my dad would take me up to Jones lake to fish . There used to be a fishing lodge up there ,5 little cabins you could rent for 10 bucks a night ,boat rental and a general store . Fishing was fantastic nice rainbow and kokanee . The road was very nasty back then ,coming down you were mostly in 4l low walking down. Braking would usually result in smoke lol. I haven't been up there this year but the place has sure changed since the good old days
Thank you for sharing, Chris. Time's flying for sure.
Same here. I grew up in Hope.
Yup he's right it was a cool little setup and the road is way way better than those days
Nice video
Great clip. I planted trees all around the 7 Sisters way back when... Even did some heliplanting. It's such a beautiful area that I've always planned to go back.
Thank you. It's a rather remote and challenging hike, but the views are quite impressive indeed.
Pls let me know new timing and prices. About parking (car) Saturday is available.
Hi! Which timing and pricing are you interested in?
is this the same one that walked by people's lunch picnic in Stanley park:)?
Lovely, peaceful scene, although those ducks sure have a lot to say.
Once you hit the Dunedin River, was there a horse trail that followed the river and headed up towards the head water to the West?
Good day. Do not remember if there was a horse trail along the river. But horses should be able to get to the river for sure, provided the mud is not too deep.
@@ihikebc2295 thank you. I have thought about turning left at the river and then hiking into the mtns. Having a horse trail to walk on would be way cooler...easier :)
thanks for sharing this. Always cool so see in video what you're looking at on google earth!
Thanks for this. Do you think my golf gti could make it through
Greetings! Not sure how low your GTI is, but regular clearance (think a typical sedan or coupe) should be ok (unless a deep cross ditch develops on the road, which happens), though good tires are a must. I'd say minimum 6 plies and with plenty of tread left. Of course, have a spare and a compressor. Getting a tow truck up there would cost dearly :)
Nice video. Thank you for sharing.
You are welcome. Glad you enjoyed it!
Most beautiful city with the best location on the Island.
Nanaimo is so beautiful yet so underrated..
Love Liard! Hot springs and approach to Fort Nelson,
It's a very neat area indeed!

What an interesting spot. How bumpy was the ferry?
Greetings. It wasn't too bumpy, but the experience might be different, if the sea would be rough. That said, it's quite a short ride, 10 minutes or so.
@@ihikebc2295 Ah not bad! Thanks for letting me know. How do my recent ferry videos look by the way?

Thanks for sharing. This will be very helpful for my plans on visiting that place 👌 Cheers !🍻
Glad it was helpful!
Hey! Thanks for the video! I am wondering if you think a 2019 Subaru Forester with stock tires would be able to make the drive, at least until the washout at 11.5km? Would really appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!
Hi! You are welcome. We have not gone to the washout since 2020, so don't know the current conditions past the split at the 7.5 km, where Jones Lake West FSR begins. That said, even 2WD vehicle with regular clearance should make it to the split (and further to the BC Hydro Campground 1.2 km down Jones Lake West FSR), as there no major surface issues, other than the usual FSR roughness. The only caveat - have good tires, as the road is full of numerous small sharp stones.
Thanks! One more follow up question... What does "good" tires mean? Could all seasons (M+S) be considered good? And would there be a minimum tread necessary (based on your personal experience)? Thanks again!
M+S is not necessary, but a 10-ply off-road-oriented tire, as opposed to a 6-ply run-of-the-mill tire, would certainly be better. That said, it's not like the road is full of nails, just small sharp stones. So, you would probably be ok with regular street tires with a good tread (i.e. not bald or getting there), but do carry a spare.
Okay thanks so much I really appreciate it! Super helpful 🙏😊
Oh one more question! What are your thoughts on deflating tires a bit when you go on FSR?
Used to ride BC Ferries a lot as a child. Brings back lots of memories.
Indeed, it's a great experience!
When did you take this clip? Can car with 4x4 wheel but low clearance make it to get to the lake next week?
Good day. That was last Friday. If you have regular clearance you should be ok at least to this split, and then the road on the right takes you to BC Hydro Campground in 1.2 km via a decent road. We have not gone to the left of the split this time, but, chances are, you can drive to the lake via that route as well (there is some nice lakeside unregulated camping that way).
Hallo, this is interesting...The Oystercatchers in Europe have black und white feathers...Is this a colour mutation?
Good day. This is a common bird in North America en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_oystercatcher
@@ihikebc2295 Ah, okay. Thank you. Greetings from Germany
do not walk facing the traffic there's so many blind corners here you'll get your self killed, never walk facing the traffic stupidest advice i ever read in my life
That's interesting - how's walking with your back to the traffic, especially on a shoulder-less road, safer than walking while facing the traffic?
I have been taught to walk on the left since I was a child (I'm 65). It is the safest - you are facing oncoming traffic and you will see the vehicle first and can step out of the way quickly if it appears the vehicle doesn't see you. Always wear a reflective vest or clothing. You can see what's coming AT you and not up behind you. If you are not facing oncoming traffic, you don't have a chance if the driver doesn't see you. I also think this is a 'traffic law' for pedestrians. I often see signs on narrow roads telling pedestrians to walk on the left. The driver also has the responsibility to know that they are driving on narrow roads with blind corners and to be hyper aware that there could be an oncoming pedestrian 'just around the corner' - slow down!
