Hardknott and Wrynoes Pass on the ZZR1400
My mate had one new in 85 and let me borrow it on a sunny evening, my recollection is of a very fast and comfortable bike which went straight round to an indicated 150 no trouble at all before I closed the throttle. Amazing at the time. Strange to see one ridden sedately but these are real old bikes now. Hope you still have it ?
This one was sold and I have built another two since, the new owner of this one has taken it on tour to Austria and Switzerland so it is being properly used rather than be a garage queen.
Strong engines. Good commentary, very interesting. I had a 1977 Suzuki gt380 with a gear indicator! Funny how some features come and go. Thanks for the video, enjoyed having a spin around with you. Have a great day
Sweet machine !!! Back in 1987 my buddy had one and I had a FJ1200,man we rode everywhere and had a blast !!! Thanks Man !!! Love from South Carolina,USA !!! P.S. Never get use to you driving on the wrong side of the road !!!
When i bought mine i had to drive home on motorway, i thought i would take it easy. At 60mph the bike felt like it was coasting, like it was asking, come on, open up, otherwise going to fall over, what a missile of a bike. You will know if it's tuned right, you will slide off the seat on full throttle.
It was about 1991-1992 the A8 came out. My former customer was Cradley Kawasaki dealer. He said he asked Kaw. to build 200 gpz as he reckoned he could still sell them. They were the A8 version. My A1 had a call back i had fitted brand new set of carbs. worth 1300 quid, for free on Kaw. call back which was on a 20 year old letter. If you have a old non water heater carbs. check with Kawasaki.
I bought a 1984 in 2000. Had it ten years. At one point i paralleled a Fireblade off the lights. Took it to 140, but backed off at that. Now have ZZR1200, similar but more refined. My gpz had oil starvation due silicone sealant in oil. I did complete rebuild.
Bit of a rocking horse, rode like on rails, but a bugger to get around mini islands. I wired the neutral light to relay to operate the fan when stationary.
I love 40 year old bikes! I have recently bought a Gpz900R can't wait to ride it!Nostalga.. character.. memories from the 80s!! Your bike looks awesome by the way
I'm more than a bit jealous. I purchased a red and silver A2 in '86, but she's long since gone. I now ride a Z900RS which is an excellent modern bike. I'd love to get back on a GPZ to compare and contrast, but doubt it'll ever happen. It now looks a bit dated, but what makes it feel like a 40yo bike? It can't just be crap brakes, which actually seemed great at the time!
The anti dives can ruin brake feel, it has to be spot on. Think later bikes it wasn't fitted. Real scary if the anti dive locks up, i know. Turns into bicycle.
I would change the front end to zxr, consign this lot to the scrapyard.
@@MHLivestreams I have built one with a ZX9R front end and one with a ZZR1100 front and rear end, currently doing one where I have fitted a set of ZZR600 Wheels which is a work in progress.
Brilliant, well done, so exciting having a project complete and riding it! and what a worthwhile bike to sort and look after, well done
Rare the ponderosa so quiet
I served 11moths there as a young Naval rating in training, 71/72 when it was HMS Ganges. sad to see the old place now . But thanks for sharing brought back a lot of memories.👍
I did my Police training there in 96, sad to see how dilapidated it has become especially the mast.
What a waste of a naval training for young lads it certainly is sad to see the demise of the mast 1951 to 1952 the finest learning for a young lad ever I look back on that with great pride ex L/S williamson
Very nice and smooth Jim....
The sound track doesn’t match the video? 😃
Yes it was a cheap Chinese copy camera but now bought a GoPro for future trackdays.
I was there on the same day but didn’t see myself. SuperdukeR were you evening session?
@@jhstony No mate I was on the day sessions.
That’s me waving at you at the end 🤣 🙋🏻♂️
Haha good timing mate just as the video was ending, hope I did not hold you up...JK
jim kerr I was instructing someone at the time. Spotted your camera as I came up on you and decided to muck about for the camera.
The bike is pretty quick 😏
Great Video Jim, what a great day, I have uploaded my videos of the novice group you may see yourself.
