How to Optimize Your Tesla Charging for Daily Commutes
Hi! Is there any rubbersmell or chemical smell from the mats? If not, I will buy!
Your thermal screen is way different than mine. I can watch the coolant loops and monitor temps and fans speeds through there, and I have a screen that monitors what the refrigerant loop is doing. Weird.
It’s a 2019 without a heat pump. I’ll do a similar video with my 2022 Y
"Ride The Wave" Staying on the upslope of the faster charging portion of the battery. Plus its better for your body for more shorter stops. Nice video and good tips.
Great to know. I am going to check mine now.
It's faster to rotate them at home than it is to drive one way to the store.
Yup, I’ve done it many times. I’d rather just sip a coffee while they do it.
How much do the power wall 3 go for
It’s in the video
Great video/info, thanks! Your car is a beauty!
Thank you!
There are a couple in my neighborhood. One has a black wrap on it, which looks pretty good. The other is the original metal finish and honestly looks like a dumpster. (I'm not a Tesla hater, I'm a proud Model 3 owner.)
They are an acquired taste for sure. Thanks for watching!
mine saved me 3X this past 2yrs.
We love spotting cybertrucks in Alabama. I’ve seen white, black and one with sci fi images on it.
EVery Tesla driver knows this..
No they don't.
i play this game all the time with teslas, still havent seen a cybertruck tho! hopefully soon :O
For us in upstate New York here near Binghamton, I'm the only CT driver, so my game is to behave, cause if I get caught doing something crazy or stupid in my CT all the cops have to do is look up who owns a CT in this area, I'm the only one.............same goes for my Harley Livewire One..........
That's rough, but unique ;)
Play the same fun game😊, but only the first person who calls out the sighting gets the point.
Yes! I forgot about this while we are all in the same car. Thanks!
And to add, I love to watch driving videos around the Los Angelas area , and I thought LA was the only US area that has Teslas everywhere , but I have been to Nashville , Atlanta, New York, Dallas , and of course Las Vegas, and wow , Teslas everywhere ! Mind blowing ! But I think the LA area is still Tesla central .
I’ve been a Tesla Model 3 owner for 4 years ( delivery day September 19th 2020) and a follower of Tesla and electric cars since 2010, and for years I have done a daily count of Teslas and electric cars in my daily driving here in the Memphis area . I usually have an average 20 or 30 Teslas a day, around 40 on a good day, compared to the 10 or 15 electric vehicles from other makes. I remember around 2019-2020 I would average around 10 Teslas a day, and in around 2016-2017, around 4 or 5 Teslas , sometime 1 to none. With opening of our Tesla store in the area in 2021 I knew those numbers will rise, and they did. It’s still so exciting to see more and more Teslas everywhere. Right now in September 2024, I see only 1-3 Cybertrucks a week , sometimes none, but I know that number will rise every month. I visited the Tesla store in June, and they had at least 50 Cybertrucks on the lot, and all of them were waiting for delivery. Can’t wait until I see 10 or 15 Cybertrucks a day! 😁
Fun
Made no sense
My first roadtrip from NC to FLA, I was more conservative and charged a bit longer than needed, but a few trips in including NC to MI I am more at ease. It definitely takes longer if you have trips that long, but with FSD, I am more of an observant passenger 98% of the time. Just like an ICE car, I don’t like to get below 15% before filling up.
Picking up my M.Y. next week, this was a very good list of things to check over before driving away. Thanks!
Glad to hear! Enjoy your new car!
Have had the same experience with the PW3. Transition from grid to PW back to grid during a blackout phase is seamless. Need to keep an eye on the outside to even know whether grid power is down. The only slight difference in operation we've noticed is that the microwave needs a bit more time to cook things when we are on the PW3. We avoid the microwave anyway when we know we are in a blackout.
Can be used for evil you say.....? Don't really see how
Nailed it! Thanks
Thank you its works!
What did it cost you for the power wall 3 ? Thank you
Full details are here. Tesla Powerwall 3: Install, Cost, & Tips for 2024 - Complete Guide th-cam.com/video/FSdLIR4HojA/w-d-xo.html
I’m in ny not sure where to get the tires replaced… worried a place like mavis will damage the battery when lifting it
Most tire shops are aware of how to lift our cars by now.
@@TeslaTipsTrips I know but still worried…
spent 7 hours helping a friend with a Tesla . No spare tire , no wheel wrench and no jack . AAA refused to come , Private tow service wanted $1000 . He was lucky to find me .The tire was irreparable so off to the tire shop , then back to the car . Total driving time was 6 hours . Plus my American wrench didn't fit the lug bolts although Tesla was made in America . And cell phone service isn't available everywhere .
Prime example of why I carry a spare on road trips.
I'm using a Solis hybrid inverter and within the system, I can set the Self-Use (Time of Use) discharge current to certain amps. So like if I have a 10kWh battery, I will divide it by the number of critical(peak rates) hours. That way, I can prolong the discharge and have enough juice for an outage at any given time. Rather than a full-hour discharge and quickly deplete the storage. This works since the Inverter will switch to backup mode and power the demand without following the custom current during an outage. It'd be wonderful if Tesla has this.
Awesome😂
I have a 5.3 kW system with 16 panels, 327 watts per panel. I was told that two Tesla power walls will never get charged up with that little of kilowatt output. Have you been able to fully charge both Tesla power walls after using them at night I suspect, since you have a Tesla vehicle? Then recharging them with your panels the next day? it seems like you may have overbought battery storage capacity if your panels cannot fully charge those power walls. What say you?
Right now with mild weather I’m charging to 100% during the day with solar and on battery from late afternoon through dawn. Of course you can’t charge your Tesla in this scenario. 2 Powerwalls are 27kwh and your car is over 60kwh
@@TeslaTipsTrips I am curious how many kilowatts have you used when dawn arrives? Just curious.
Yup. And you and I are in earthquake country too, so we may have some several day or longer outages. I hope to help my neighborhood in such an instance. The sun comes up most days, so there is always the chance to gain more power.
Yeah, and hopefully our next Tesla will have Powershare ability.
This explains why mine magically started working again when I was unplugging things to look for damage and plugged everything back in because I found nothing physically wrong. Cool.
I live in Santa Clarita also and last Friday we had a power outage that lasted 5-hours. I have solar and two Tesla powerwalls and I to didn't run my AC to prevent draining the battery at 30% charged, but what I did it's run the fan only function on my AC unit to at least keep the air inside the house circulating for which it didn't really take a lot of power from the two powerwalls. I also do the 3-9 pm peak hours used of my powerwall to power our Bedrooms home. I would suggest to put your powerwalls reserved to 40% in the Future.
Good suggestions. Thanks!
This is hilarious 😂😂..I checked mine and it said error failed to load alerts. Should I be concerned?
Another great video! Did u encounter any problems with Tesla in buying/installing the power walls since I already had a solar array? Thinking about adding battery storage to our system given the extreme weather causing increasingly frequent power outages in SoCal
Thank you! Not a single issue. Tesla was great to work with.
Thx for creating video, but little of this useful info is available on pre refresh model S :(
Powerwall change frequency when they go offgrid, maybe you ac is suseptible to that change and turn off! Y get the same problem with one of my ac but the other one doesn't care for the change
Upgrade your A/C to an inverter heat pump.
Can you please talk about why your battery wasn’t 100% charged, I’m kind of confused as I thought it would be 100% charged if you have two Tesla power wall
I touched on this in the video. A couple of reasons, 1) It's not fully approved by our power company, so it doesn't charge from the grid yet, only solar. 2) We actually use our system during the day to offset higher prices and run off the battery during the higher rates. 3) It was a heat wave with temps over 100, near 110, so we were using A LOT of power. We have it set to not go below 30%, so we do have some left in reserve in case of an outage. You could of course leave your batteries fully charged at all times, but that's a lot of money to spend for the system to just sit there, for an occasional power outage. Thanks for the question!
@@TeslaTipsTrips i’m thinking about getting two Tesla batteries and I’d like to understand why the power company needs to approve them and do they normally take a long time to approve them? The solar company didn’t mention anything about this.
Yes, they need to approve it. Yes it takes a while (we are still waiting 3 months in) most of the system is still operational. Only things missing things are Grid Charging, and power buyback.
Update for me, at 47,800 miles around 200-201 miles Full Charge according to car and TeslaFi. I know with the latest software update, some folks tanked 10-25ish miles range. (estimated obviously) Love the car, stupid efficient at 197-205mi/kWh im getting on my 140mi round trip commute.
Those portable AC units use as much almost as a 2ton unit, reasoning is because the 2ton will cool ur house faster and more efficient. While the portable will run nonstop at 700watts. 4kw for 20mins is about 1.3kwh, so 2x as much, but if u set ur ac to 75 for entire house, it will run 15mins or so every 90mns. At least this is how it is in my home, i have a decent insulated newer home. Measure ur ac current and run some tests. So u know for next time.
In the recent heat wave, our AC never stopped. Outside temp during the day was 110, best the house stayed at was 80. Temp meter at the registers was 72, so the house itself was just hot (walls, attic etc) Looking into a new system over winter. Thanks
Would be interesting to see how the powerwalls behave with a multi-day outage with getting depleted overnight and recharging on next solar cycle. Should be seamless, except for the few hours of no power, but you never know.
@@shaggydogsales , I’m sure it would be expensive, but I was thinking that if you had the money you could plan out a system with enough solar panels and powerwalls to power the entire home for 12 hours. That’s plenty to make it through the night until the next day when your whole house solar runs the entire house while also charging the powerwalls. I wonder how much such a system would cost for his home.
Good thought but putting money aside, i think most utilities dictate the max solar size based on your distribution transformer size and number of existing connections. I think Kerry mentioned he only has -5kw solar so could be for this reason over cost. My utility only allows a max 10kw solar at my home. After factoring your max house load, it doesn't really make sense to have more than 2 powerwalls for this amount of solar.
My system is 5.5kw, installed 10 years ago.
I’m glad I got the Power Wall when I got the Solar from Tesla. The Power Wall had saved us from multiple power outages here in Sacramento. My power wall is always charge at 100% before dusk.
Two PowerWalls and only a few hours backup?
At 30%
He also has a 5.5kW system. That's probably why the powerwalls were't fully charged
Yeah, not yet connected to the grid.
I question whether its worth it at all to rotate tires or just get a new set.
It should be illegal not to have the door releases on the rear doors too. What if the people in the front are dead or unconscious?
Having a beer gut, this thing ain't going to work for me lol
Yes it's going to be respectful but it's not going to praise your your review cuz it's not as good as this one is done by this company the product that is. I have it on my model 3 2018 and it's awesome Everything about this item is correct including the clips which I see through and blended beautifully so you have to do your market research two too.How about not doing all that nonsense and getting the right shade which is, which is what this one is I got it within the last 2 months and it's excellent and it looks very nice with the matching color almost to the roof material on the Tesla Model 3, also available for model y HALOBLK Non-Sag Glass Roof Sunshade with Storage Bag, that's it all you need HALOBLK Non-Sag Glass Roof Sunshade with Storage Bag
Ok
I had to change my 3rd set of tires at 19000 miles. I was told by Tesla that you can only rotate front to back and vice versa. Mine wasn’t performance model. My major problem was the rear knuckles needed replacing when broadsided about 5 weeks of when I bought the car. Worth checking with Tesla.
I’ll give it a shot!
