New Year, New Sketchbook
มุมมอง 469หลายเดือนก่อน
How do you start a sketchbook? Because each time I'm starting a new sketchbook, I feel like I always overthink it. So many questions run through my mind: how do I not ruin the sketchbook? Should I keep a theme? How should I decorate it? All the choices get so overwhelming that I just have to force myself to "ruin" the sketchbook and jump straight into it, no more thinking about it. When I start...

The way I fill and use my sketchbook is different now. And I as a person have changed a lot too this year. In this video, I show the transformation of my drawing process and also give a bit of a personal life update. Check out w...

I Could Never Draw Everyday Until I Did This
มุมมอง 3.8K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Drawing everyday used to be so hard for me. But, I finally found a way to make drawing everyday easy to keep up with. Gone are the overwhelming days of staring at a blank page and not knowing what to draw! "Just draw" is such common advice in the art community. Anyone wanting to learn how to draw or wanting to get better at drawing already knows that they need to practice. But how can you devel...

I already love her so much ❤
She’s the sweetest baby
Aww. 🥲💜 Congrats on Winnie joining the family! That’s SO sweet how Ellie grooms her and they’re BFFs now!
It’s so wonderful to see this little kitty grow up surrounded by family ❤️
Just found your channel and watched a few videos so far! Really enjoying the “vibe” of your channel. (: Came for the art, stayed for the art, the animals and the uniqueness of what you offer here! ☺️💜
Wow thank you so much!!
Your drawings are so nice and you are really good
awww thank you!!
This is one of the cutest videos that I have ever seen. :) Greetings from Czech Republic.
Thank you I’m so glad you liked it 🥹
10/10 kitty 🥺
She’s is too cute!!
Loved the video! You called me out 😔👏 but i was wondering what breed is your tabby brown cat? My cat's the same but calling her just a tabby is very general...
She’s a domestic short hair!
@GraceDeGrace Tysm for sharing :D
Wonderful informative helpful video! Love the interesting discussion in the comment section.
Thank you so much!
you underrated af
Thank you 🙏
A puppy can melt your stress away and refresh you.
Or stress you out 😂 the lack of sleep can be brutal but luckily it’s only for a short time
OKO
Someday, i wish to make an animated series. Its nice to see how one starts their journey to make art
Hope you do it! It must be a huge but very fulfilling project to complete
@GraceDeGrace thanks, im yet to complete the story
lovely!! Watching you sketch is always so mesmerizing
Thank you ❤️❤️
to start a sketchbook, i like to add stickers in the beginning to make myself like the sketchbook and want to draw into it. or i just start drawing 😊 thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Where do you normally get your stickers?
@@GraceDeGraceusally from etsy or any cute ones i find in stores
what about u?
@@angeangela-y6d I don’t have any yet. When we moved into this house, I started fresh, no art supplies really aside from a sketchbook and a pen. I’ve been slowly building up the amount of art supplies now though and stickers may be next 👀
I’ve got a good few years of trying to learn and haven’t made any progress. I tried figure studies, gesture drawings, tried to get a handle on fundamentals, but this horrid flat stiffness never ever goes away. I’ve tried so many things to get rid of it, and only recently when a friend of mine picked up art for the first time and immediately was making elaborate, well-formed stuff did I realize I just don’t know how to sketch. He was able to intuitively feel out forms of anything he drew in a loose and free flowing way, and that’s what I’ve always been missing. This video puts some more words to the struggle I’ve been having, and it’s cool to see that and people in the comments here elaborating on how it worked for them. I’m hoping I can maybe figure something out!!
Hope you also find that breakthrough difference in your art journey!! Thanks for sharing and good luck!
I am an animator
Do you like to keep a physical sketchbook for practice?
flipnotes in question
What do you think of doing the reverse way? Drawing from observation initially, and then filling in 3D shapes where you see fit?
I think that’s fun to do if I’m trying to draw a concept from my head like a design for a robot or something. I haven’t tried much outside of that
Blessings!
Thank you!
I’m gonna need to rewatch this a good few.. um.. 5+ times…? The cute little kissable huggable lovable fluffy animals are distracting me
Literally me, how am I supposed to get anything done with them always around?!
Very nice
Great video. I just found your channel today and I love your relaxed, journal-like, reflective narration. Your drawings are great. It looks like you dont have pencil lines under your pen strokes. Do you sketch before inking? I love drawing in pen and ink, but i dont have the confidence yet to go in without pencil.
Thanks so much for watching! I normally just go in with a pen and try my best. If I mess up, I’ll either try to just push through it and hope it turns out okay in the end or use a white gel pen to help cover up some of the lines. If I don’t like the final drawing, I tend to forgive myself in my sketchbook. Some drawings I’ll like, others I won’t like. It’s all part of the process! I can always just try again if I really want to
I love your videos! Speaking as a fellow hobbyist artist who also has no formal art training, it's truly inspirational to see your progress! Are there any tutorials, courses, or TH-cam channels that you'd recommend for someone who can draw well from a reference but can't draw at all without one? Thank you! 😁
Unfortunately all the channels I watch are of people who are super good at art. I think they’re incredible with or without reference. My favorites are Proko, Jess Karp, and Chroma Moma
My golden pup is 11 years old and also has infinite puppy energy. so, you know ... buckle up!
Oh boy I’m in for quite the years of entertainment ahead 😂
I like your videos and I think your sketches are really good! keep at it...I can relate thou- I get in those episodes too of up and down with drawing...ps.what sketchbook are u using?
Thank you! I use moleskine brand sketchbooks
this could have been a 2 minute video
But then that’d only show so little of my pets 😭😭
4:04 The cat is ascending to a higher dimension! 2D to 3D! It really adds volume to the drawing!
Makes a huge difference!!
great video! for 2025 i've decided i'm going to draw a little bit every day, and i already started as of mid-december, so i'm feeling good about it! i wholeheartedly agree about treating it like a diary; it gives me more freedom and satisfaction to draw at all rather than be disappointed it doesn't look how i want it to (that's something that holds me back a lot). love the footage of your pets, it's so cute! may i ask, what piece did you use as the background music for this video? i love classical music lol
Thank you! The name of the song is called: A Far Cry - Josef Suk, Serenade, Op 6
im in the exact same stage rn
Wishing you the best of luck on your journey!
What got me is when I realized nothing is beautiful all the time in reality. Something can be right/physically possible but look super weird. Not to mention visual language could be unclear irl because ofc an artist didn't make it lol
Then there’s things like occlusion and illusions which make things look way different even though it’s how it’s “supposed” to be
@@GraceDeGrace yeah, photos are rarely 1:1 to reality and even if they were, they usually get edited even in subtle ways
Very valuable thankss!!!
You’re very welcome!
Tranks happy Christmas
Merry Christmas to you too!
6:23 these cats, for instance, are large and soft shaped, which is very different from the other cat you drew earlier
It is different, but all cats have some base similarities that make starting to draw them easier over time as you pick up on some of the patterns
Thats very considerate of your cat to supervise your piano practise. 😁
I guess that’s one way of looking at it! 😂
Man my friend has just one dog and he says its quite expensive as it is U on there hand have 3 pets and still take good care of them.... That's just amazing
They can get quite costly, but I also have no children, so that leaves some income to spend on the pets instead
@@GraceDeGrace sure I thought u were no older than 20...22max Ofc u not gonna have children yet Though already got a family,👍
I’m 24 currently I agree, with all the pets, my husband and I have quite the wonderful family 😃
So useful, and I love the music
Thank you! So glad you liked it!
YAY GRACEDEGRACE CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE!
THANK YOU
Hello there :D Cat :3
Ellie: 👁️👁️🐱
Drawing is an illusion of reality. It requires subtle abstraction to translate the real into the imaginary.
It’s why they say learning to draw is actually training yourself how to see
a good website that teaches this is drawabox
2:28 exactly my feelings about my drawings
It can be fixed!
God puppies get real big real fast...real fast!!!!! .. I wish I had time to have dedicate to a puppy and that potty training seem like a big headache
They are baby for only like 1 week I swear!
just study 3d forms yall
Harder than it seems
Yo this was pretty similar to my art journey. I spent the most of my childhood drawing, but essentially just getting better at being a photocopier. Just last year, I had the same experience as you. I needed to understand the fundamental concepts of why things look the way they do, and so I did. Practice after practice I became gradually better. I feel pretty fulfilled knowing I can take my imagination and put it into a physical form. Although, I still try to improve on myself, looking to learn new things and gain more experience, it’s fun. Have a good day, and have fun arting! (Plus, I am an even better photocopier because of this lol)
😂 thank you for sharing your journey and good luck to you too!!
Sounds like you've got a type of aphantasia, which is fine, I have that too, you just need to 'fix' it by drawing the things you want with lots of references and practice.
It’s slowly getting better but at least it’s improvement 😃
Ah the, growing, teething pains of an artist. Good luck on your journey and remember 2 things: 1) *Always* keep it fun, even if just a little! 2) When all else fails, your own observation skills will always be your best asset! Both of these things are VERY important, and you might forget them along the way, but you will find yourself faced with these again and again in time. -Sincerely, an artist who is just further along that path that wants to see you succeed in your own goals
Thank you very much for your wonderful comment!
Big NO-NO in the cubing community
Cats don’t qualify?
Hair gets in the core of the cube and mess up the cube, also making it harder to clean
having done both 3D modelling/sculpting, it feels supercharging to try drawing 2D crap, knowing full well that i could imagine wireframes and perspective distortion. except im still uhhh exercising the 2D drawing muscles
It is so hard for me to fully conceptualize things in 3D 😵💫😵💫
cute cat
Thank you
me except its for 2 minutes and im never actually motivated enough to try so im just constantly wanting to but never doing
It’s a struggle 😭😭
Unfortunately thinking in 3D is really difficult for me. I have very bad proprioception and it makes my capabilities to even process things as being in a 3D space inconsistent at best.
That’s tough! This is just what helped for me but there are a lot of methods of drawing. Hope you find the one that works well for you!!
