Signore Delle Cime (B. de Marzi) - Sofia Sala a cappella

Signore Delle Cime ("Lord of the Mountain Tops") is a very popular Italian song of prayer. This song is very special to me because the composer, Bepi de Marzi is a very dear friend of my family and I've sang this song since I was a child. Bepi dedicated this song to his friend who died in 1951 while climbing Mount Gramolon in the upper Valle del Chiampo. In the first verse, we are praying to Go...
The Singer (Michael Head) - Sofia Sala a cappella

This is my version of 'The Singer' which was composed by Michael Head. This isn't really a folk song but a more modern "folk inspired" piece. This song was written with piano included and is usually sung solo. I arranged four different voices to layer over the main to give what I consider a more folk feeling and a less modern contemporary one.
The Parting Glass - Sofia Sala (a cappella)

This is my version of one of the most important folk songs, 'The Parting Glass'. I've always shied away from singing it because it's a song that's close to the heart of so many people. With just a few simple words, this song is gives a great sense of friendship & love, even if that can feel bittersweet at times. It's an ode to a life ending, a life well-lived. An Ave Maria for the month of May. “Ave Maria” is a song that has always reminded me of open spaces, coloured skies and mountains. This particular version which is dear to my heart, was written by a dear friend and great composer, Bepi de Marzi. I hope you enjoy my a cappella version. Un' Ave Maria per il mese di Maggio. Un' Ave Maria che sa di spazi aperti, di cieli colorati e di montagne. Un'...
Scarborough Fair - Sofia Sala (a cappella)

This is my take on the traditional English folk song "Scarborough Fair". The song refers to an old fair in the middle ages in Scarborough, Yorkshire which started sometime in the 14th century and continued until the 18th century. The interesting thing about this arrangement (inspired by Carsten Gerlitz's version) is that it doesn't have a lead line and instead, the story is fluidly passing from...
The Last Rose of Summer - Sofia Sala (a cappella)

Here's my version of "The Last Rose of Summer" which originally was written as a poem by the Irish poet Thomas Moore. He wrote it in 1805, while staying at Jenkinstown Castle in County Kilkenny, Ireland. It's one of my favourite melodies and this particular version was arranged by Philip Lawson. I hope you enjoy!
Loch Lomond - Sofia Sala (a cappella)

This is my version on one of the most famous & loved Scottish folk songs, "Loch Lomond" I first heard this arrangement by David Overton, from the 'King's Sing'. The arrangement was written for a male choir so I had to transpose it to a key that suited my vocal range. It was a fun challenge to work out each line and I'm very happy with the result. I hope you enjoy!
