John E's Train Layout
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 19 ก.พ. 2021
Welcome! These are mostly short videos of pre-war, postwar and modern toy trains running on my O Gauge tubular track layout. I drew heavy inspiration from an article on Ed Schwartz's postwar layout published in the March 1994 issue of Classic Toy Trains. In this second version of the layout I've added two sidings so I can leave up to four trains on the layout. In operation a train will traverse the layout three times before returning to the siding (and direction) where it started. I enjoy having a number of ground block activated accessories on the mainline and also have a number of button activated accessories around the layout. Thanks for visiting. Your comments and suggestions are appreciated!
Lionel MPC Era Hi-Cube Boxcars
My 2024 collecting quest - Lionel MPC Era Hi-Cube boxcars. It started with one, and after seeing how nice this looked I'm now tracking down the rest. Going to pass on the Disney branded ones though. Also worth noting - adding 4-6 stick on (auto) tire weights to each has improved tracking through the 022 switches and 45 degree cross-overs. Hope you enjoy the video!

Trains or Treat 2024 - Hand-crafted O Gauge Halloween Trains
มุมมอง 105วันที่ผ่านมา
Just a few weeks late - Lots of fun crafting some unique cars for this year's Trains or Treat display. Many of you will recognize most of the cars I modified for the inner tracked Halloween train. A well trusted Lionel 2018 Atlantic circa 1956 hauled the candy loads in various 62XX gondolas. All loads and decorations on the Halloween train came from the discount bins at the local Michaels. Once...
1949 Lionel 1656 B6 Switcher and 6043B bell ringing tender
มุมมอง 752หลายเดือนก่อน
Sorry to all who commented already. Accidentally deleted this video from YT. The 1656 B6 Switcher is one of my favorite engines to run. This is the 1949 version with great (diecast) details on the engine boiler - B6 on one side and the Lionel builder plate on the other. The 6043B has the proper stamp on the frame bottom - vs the uncommon 6403B stamping. Hope you enjoy!
Lionel 1940 Prewar 1666 Freight Set
มุมมอง 1.4K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
It's always fun to run any of the few Prewar trains I have, and Lionel's 1940 1666 did not disappoint. With an occasional cleaning, light lubing and even lighter oiling this engine just keeps running strong. The cars date from 1938-1942. I updated each with box couplers which work well even over 022 switches. Hope you enjoy watching as much as I do running trains!
Lionel 1948 027 Streamliner Set
มุมมอง 1.3K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
New for 1948 - a De Lux 027 Streamlined Passenger outfit, lead by the six-wheel powered 2025 steam engine and paired with the new 2400 Series Streamlined Pulllman passenger cars. Very happy to finally own the 2400 cars. I think they are the best looking set Lionel produced in the postwar period. Hope you enjoy!
Lionel 1957 626 B&O 44-ton Switcher
มุมมอง 7595 หลายเดือนก่อน
Picked up this beautiful Lionel 626 44-ton switcher a few weeks ago at Train Town in STL - John and Bob have a great shop there!! The 626 was a separate sale engine offered in 1957 and beyond (while supplies lasted). It was in great shape when I bought it, though I had to replace the headlamp wire. With the railroad superintendent's approval I switched to LED lamps and added a second bulb so ea...

And a Big Boy, and a UP Centennial and many other great trains. If ever in the Dallas-Frisco TX area I highly recommend a visit! Well done John. Headed your way for Christmas hope to see you then.
@@douglasater8580 Thanks Doug! See you then!
Nice, those are the only hi cubes I can afford😂
100% All they need are a few stick-on (tire) weights and they track fine on the 022 switches.
Awesome! 🤠
Great video , nice the way you started outside !
A very nice track an beautiful scenery, greetings from Holland.
@@michelvandebeek3697 Thank you Michel 🙏
They are loud aren’t they.
That's part of the fun of running them. Also, that video was shot before I ballasted track.
My arm is getting tired! 😂
Great! 👍
@@Porschedude8 Thanks!
Very nice! You can’t beat the old Lionel and O gauge, in general. An excellent video, for sure.

Really like you're layout
Thanks Richard! Its a fun layout to run trains on!
Like your passenger train
Very, very nice! This is one of the things I love about o scale, you don't have to be super detail like in n or ho scale if you want a nice and fun layout. O scale is the original toy train scale I think.
Thanks Curtis!
Sweet engine and consist, nice run session.

Wow, nice set. The good old days, lol! 😊
Great to see how so much of the prewar trains have survived and still look great!

Cool set and run session. 😎👍
Really just a perfect Lionel offering: a lovely engine with smoke, a whistle tender, and three deliciously green, illuminated streamliner passenger cars. Thank for sharing this run. 🍻😉🏆
@@patrickwalsh279 Happy to share! Glad you enjoyed!!
Hello John, Loving the layout! What are the dimensions of the layout? and do have track roadbed or just secure track on the plywood? Thanks
@@chtyan Thanks! The layout is approximately 8’x14’. I chose not to use roadbed, and screwed sparingly directly to the table. I did add extra ties (mostly soft plastic) and glued ballast which helped reduce the noise when running. Posting a track plan soon.
@JohnETrains Awesome! Very interested seeing that track plan. Keep.the videos coming.
Nice set John
Thanks AJ!
Awesome Layout! Ton of action. Getting ready to build me one. Love the track plan. Chuck
@@chtyan 🙏 Planning, building and updating is my favorite part of the layout! Hope the same for you!
Incredible layout, but no caboose on the freight train?
@@ericschminke8233 The caboose should be there in a few of the shots. It kept disconnecting. I keep a bag of orthotic rubber bands handy to lock them closed.
I love trains 🚂
Very nice thank you for running trains with some velocity.😊
Nice run .
