Alpha Whisky Adventures
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 13 ก.พ. 2014
Welcome to the Alpha Whisky Adventures Channel!
My adventures take place around Manitoba and Northwest Ontario in Canada. Here you will find winter camping, snowmobiles, and canoe camping along with whatever else I think you may find interesting.
When I thought of how to share some of my outdoor pursuits with friends and family this medium was an obvious choice. I still wanted to maintain a few boundaries between my "day job" and my personal activities. I decided to use the moniker Alpha Whisky and have a bit of fun with the Whisky theme. I enjoy playing around with the technology that enables a person to capture and create memories of the trips, activities, and adventures that they undertake. Today it is very easy to make home movies that look so much better than the days of slides, 8mm film and VHS cameras.
If by sharing these pursuits anyone is inspired to seek out their own adventures, that would be awesome.

1991 Arctic Cat Super Jag Restoration | Episode 6 | Clutch Service
Sixth episode on the restoration of a 1991 Arctic Cat Super Jag snowmobile.
This video was filmed between November 2022 and January 2023. I was struggling with the sled wanting to creep forward after coming to a stop requiring the brake to stay in one place. i also still had an issue of the sled not wanting to idle once warmed up.
The previous improvements have improved ride and handling, but not reliability.
I am having fun working on this old sled and it is teaching me so much about these machines. There is always a lesson to be learned by playing in the garage. I currently have about 12 episodes shot and awaiting editing.
At the current moment the engine has been put back together but still fails the pressure test.
Thanks for watching this video which is part of a video diary of the restoration of a 1991 Arctic Cat Super Jag.
The history of this sled as I understand it - is that it started its life with a Trapper northeast of Bissett Manitoba and then was sold to a surveyor who used it all over Manitoba. In recent years it saw little use except for occasional use on surveying cut lines and hunting for caribou. By the time I pulled it out of the pole shed in the fall of 2019 it had sat unused, for three years.

In Episode 5 in my restoration of the Super Jag we address the ski alignment. I was luck to only have to adjust a half inch on one ski. the clutch and motor don't leave much room to work and some pictures are from when the motor was removed to illustrate the nuts that have to be adjusted. At the end i mention doing the bearings and skid - which was edited before this one was edited. The Skid wa...
My New Snowmobile - Revealed

Introducing my new snowmobile to go backcountry camping. I have trust issues with my 2005 Polaris to go farther into the backcountry and settled on this model after comparing it to a Skandic. I decided against a SWT model in favour of the trail vs off trail compromise. Originally, I tried to order a 2023 model in spring of 2022 but the dealer sold out of allocation. Did you replace the windshield?
Yes, I hated looking at the old one! The seat and the window were some of the first things I did. I picked it up from revco in Canada.
@@alphawhiskyadventures revco, do they ship? Do you think I could get one for my 93 arctic cat lynx?
@@anicekid yes they ship, check them out, here is their website. revco.ca
@@alphawhiskyadventures thanks, do they ship to the usa?
@ no idea. Check out the link.
Pilot jets are often overlooked when cleaning carbs and dirty ones are a common cause of a poor idle. Hopefully you have already figured out your issue.
Case leak is my guess. I have cleaned those carbs so many times and replaced just about everything else! I’ll find out soon enough.
How much more is the expedition vs a Skandic
Depends on the models and engine choices but when I looked the difference was less than two grand Canadian. If you go to skidoo’s website you can select different models and compare. Of course that doesn’t include the accessories!
Winch??? That thing is huge.
It is something you don’t really want to get really stuck! I have a shovel, come-along and kinetic rope. Hope I use my brain to keep out of trouble, but I passed on the winch.
Is your new windshield OEM or aftermarket?
Aftermarket. Revoco is where I ordered it from.
Following along. I have an 89 that I use up at the cottage and just picked up a 90 to fix up or use as spare parts.
Smart! Parts are hard to come by and eBay can be expensive.
1:04 I believe the tracks are 16" wide. Where did you get your seat redone?
Local gal, in Starbuck MB TCM I believe was the name of her shop. She did nice work on it, just lost the paint from the brand that was on the original. And you are correct - odd ball sized track.
Great video!
Appreciate it!
I have the same one except mine is 850etec
You mentioned there are some people making the 2up seat replacement? I can't seem to find those videos. Any hints / titles to search? The Skidoo version is just stupidly overpriced. Thanks for the video. My '25 SE will be here shortly.
Here is one I remember but the other guy was in Newfoundland or Labrador. th-cam.com/video/5m7ucaP9JKQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=B-K_0yRsCFgVsKi4. Maine Trout Whisperer is the channel. The east coast guys have lots of cool tips and attachments, I found my gps unit from chuck porters channel. Hope you get more snow this year than we got last year! Enjoy your new sled. Might have been one of the cains quest racers.
@@alphawhiskyadventures Ah yeah, I've been watching him too. thank you! I want to make something to bring to 100lb dog on longer rides on the Expedition.
@@BlitzAlaska I think I may have seen some dog boxes mounted on atv if you watch any of the coon or cougar hunters that run dogs. May give you some ideas. Brient family adventures have a sled like a kitty Kat that they put a dog in.
Or maybe not...we are 20hrs apart LOL have a great winter otherwise
Same to you. I want to get out a fair bit this year, hopefully Mother Nature cooperates. I have been to Aurora years ago. I remember it was pretty. Nice hills so must be nice trails. Thanks for the offer, but yeah I am in Manitoba. 😂
I bought my 2023, same model for the same reasons as you did, got out once camping with my son, snow was up to our thighs, 24in wide track sank 5 in, after all it weighs a bit lol, where are you in proximity to Aurora On? Maybe we could go for a ride this winter... there is going to be a tonne of snow lol "they" say
I sure hope for more snow. Soon hopefully!
I just picked up the same machine in all black. Cant wait to get out this winter.
Same here
Beautiful machine 😍
Thanks. It’s pretty cool, hope to get out a lot more this winter.
Baddd to the bone🤨
I got my barnfind 92 Jag440LT, had about 2K plus miles. Cleaned it up, replaced everything on the suspension, Engine was clean and started; I pulled it, my relative cross hatched and honed my cylinders, and added a .10 over Weisco Kit. Replaced all the fuel lines and new filters. My relative added lower gears and clutching intended for logging for firewood. It tops out at 44mph but its a tractor of a sled😁
I travel extremely long distsnces, I definitely depend on reliable sleds, trucks well my Jeep JK, and outboards. I travel about 5 to 25mph tops because the terrain here in SW Alaska dictates or its a 300mi walk home. The Super Jag and its siblings are definitely dependable👍👍
Thanks for the confirmation that this is a good little sled (once all the gremlins have been removed 😂). I have been chasing a fuel issue since I got it and finally found it - Case leak.
We have the exact same sled! Looking forward to being able to use it this year, hope we get more snow! Got mine in October last year but managed to put 1003 kms on it still even with the crappy season.
I can’t wait to get some more time on it this winter. It’s heading in the shop to update the gauge. Froze up on a ride and apparently there is an update for it.
@@alphawhiskyadventures I have the same gauge as you and it froze up once. They told me if it happens again to let them kbow and they will change it. Under warranty.
@@RonRivet the shop opened the case with brp so at least it’s documented. I had video to support it!
I got one as well in Black with the studded track and have no snow for the second year. I am hoping the Winter of 24/25 brings a respectable amount of snow so I can get out there or will have to travel where snow is abundant. Beautiful machine and congratulations on owning one. I love mine so much that I called her The Beast even though she only has the Turbo and not the Turbo R she has plenty of of RAW power with her 130 horses to get you outta of a slushy frozen lake no problem. 80 miles an hour is pretty fast enough for me and she is very capable of that speed on a nice straight run.
I am crossing my fingers for snow this winter as well. I found my sleds all go plenty fast for my liking and hopefully I’ll never know if turbo will keep me out of slush. 😂 The Beast is an awesome nickname. Four months till Dec! 🤞
Long live the Evergreen canoes!
Agreed. In 2005 or 6 I got to visit the store in Toronto where they had a letter from Bill Mason in the wall. I don’t recall exactly what it said anymore but it noted that their prospector mold was made from his canoe.
Really great video of your trip 👌 Sophie looks like the ideal travelling companion too 🐕🛶
Thanks for the kind words, she is an awesome companion to have along. Well worth the extra effort involved.
@@alphawhiskyadventures that's ok, she's a lovely dog and look forward to seeing more of your adventures soon 😀
Most reliable was always a Yamaha. So of course they’re getting out of the snowmobile business. Ski do is a great sled to go with.
Warm winters and rising costs aren’t helping them or any of the manufacturers. Be an interesting few years coming up I think.
Great video all around. I am guessing you are in Manitoba? I just snowchecked one for next winter (hope for some snow!) and I chose the blue colour but a little nervous about that choice. I will definitely put the winch on the front (probably not for trail riding...). I got the Turbo R. I know it doesn't make sense really but I had to. Hope we meet up on the trail or better, back country.
Thanks, I am in MB. I am guessing you were not able to get out to breezy bend to look at the colours in person. Winch makes sense and I get the turbo desire. I do hope you get more snow than I got my first year. You got better terms on your snow check this year! I recognize other expeditions on the trails so it’s a possibility!
very nice shots by your daughter, that was epic!
Thanks. She does some cool stuff.
So did it snow? Ontario season was a disaster
NOPE. No Snow. Our season was a week and a half in January and a weekend in March. That’s all. And one weekend I was not able to go and couldn’t take off work to go play. I guess on the bright side - no fuel sock problems! 😂
Great job on this video thank you for sharing..
Great machine bought there.
I was planning to do this very thing. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
They are very handy to carry - one in each hand. Glad this helps.
After a smoke out in the morning. I jettisoned the arrestor on the kni-co. Softwood in Ontario chokes it in 2-3 hours.
One small correction, the 7.8" gauge is the color display. Yours is the 7.2". There's also a 4.5" on the LE and the Xtreme that looks similar to yours but smaller. Also the 10.25" is also color but it's specific to the G5 sleds...can't put it on the Expedition because it's still on G4 plastic.
You are totally correct. For some reason I just can’t keep them all straight! 😂 Thanks for clarifying for others.
creosote is always much worse when your run the stove with on low, damper closed and air intake shut down for an extended burn overnight or when you are away from the tent.
I noticed the snowmobile cover at the beginning of the video. It looks like it was it made to cover the driver and passenger seat? Do you know what the ski doo part number for that was? I cannot seem to find one that says it will also protect the passenger seat that comes with these sleds.
860201972 is what’s on the box. Rev G4 wide -Exp LE SE Med-U/high w/s ROC. Is the description along with canvas cover towage kit. Hope that helps you! Confirm with the dealer before ordering if necessary. The cover fits very well. It’s perfect.
Thank you very much!
Very nice, but there is a problem. The dealer forgot to put the turbo on it. You have to take it back immediately. The turbo will let you get away from the people that much faster. And that is important.
That is hilarious! Valid point!
haha yea Ski Doo and Lynx are really "the same stuff". i have the same glove box on my Lynx. looks the same, same size. same button to open it and so on. And the display. its the same. but your´s is wider cuz you have more functions than i do on my Lynx XTerrain 2020. Well i have learned it is registered with the Swedish "DMV" in dec 2020 but its a 2021 model.
I am sure they share many common parts or at least designs. They have started to offer more lynx brand items over here as well. I am not positive but I think the expedition was based on a lynx model originally. 🤷🏼♂️ I like that they added gps to the colour gauge package and made it backward compatible for 2025. Not that I ordered that package anyway! 😂
Great video!! I put a small shovel where that saw holder is. remove that small plastic piece and you're good to go. Your spec out is spot on too, got everything you want or need. My musts haves after having one of these machines for 3 years are the skins, cargo box, glove box extension and your cargo rack and you got all of them! Great job!
Thanks for the idea on the shovel holder. Appreciate your comments. Are you running a gps mounted to the extension and if yes which model?
Great video
Thanks!
Don’t you love how you want to drop 20 k and the dealer can’t do it .
lol. Yeah! It took till mid March for me to make the decision that I was willing to spring order only to be told “nope”. By the time I thought to call another dealer ( not in my city) the spring order closed. Now they can’t get rid of stock as our season was all of a week and a half! 😂
Well done that is quite a job.
Thanks!
Oh baby nice ride! That is quite the machine- I would love to have an expedition or skandic. And the 4 stroke motor must be killer- probably incredible longevity. I think going no turbo is smart. Turbo's are fun but certainly add a level of complexity and potential issues. I subscribed and will check out your adventures!
Thanks! On sport mode this thing goes plenty fast without turbo! 🫣 I don’t know how many times I’ll get out again with the low snow we have had but fingers crossed. I only managed to get about 50km on it the week we had enough snow. Most has melted here so going to have to hook up the trailer and go find snow!
Ill cross my fingers for another dump before the spring settles in! Happy trails! @@alphawhiskyadventures
Nice machine. I’d stud the track with those iGrip screw in studs the BRP dealers sell, super easy to do. They work awesome for crawling over ice, rocks, bare ground and trees. If you try the J hitch system you’ll never go back to a flapper hitch.
I’ll look into those studs. Liking the ice cobra so far, except the number it did on the garage floor along with new carbides! I plan to move to the J hitch someday when I upgrade the sled to something like a Yukon expedition sled.
I watched all episodes so far! Great work! Did you find any decals yet? I am going to look for you at the same time I am looking for decals for my 1991Jag AFS 440 Long Track snowmobile.
When I redo the hood, maybe in the summer, I will probably take it to a local auto stripe place and see if they can make the set up from the other side and the mostly good one. I read on the local Facebook group that was a way to get hard to find decals. A search on the internet did not provide any useful links.
I am planning on restoring a 1991 Arctic Cat Jag AFS 440 Long Track snowmobile this coming summer. Can you make any recommendations? Other than, don't do it! LOL Where can/should I source any replacement parts or decals?
Thanks for the comment. My advice is get the service manual for your model. It has so much information and help. Secondly, the actual tools work better, things like clutch tools and flywheel removers. You can improvise but I am finding it’s less than perfect. Parts are hit and miss. Try the swap meets and used dealers in your area or on local marketplace. EBay can be a source but they can be pricey. Know what they should be worth and try not to overpay. Patience saves you money.
Hello ! I have one of thees sleds and is about to change the chain case oil, do you know how much oil it holds ? Thougt that you maybe have done a change som time :)
Awesome hope your going to enjoy riding it. As for chaincase oil - spec is 236 ml or 8 oz.
Thanks !
Any idea when the next episode will be out? Currently restoring my ‘89 Super Jag and these videos have been a godsend for a kid rebuilding his first sled.
Thanks for the encouragement, hopefully soon. Golf season is over around here!
Loving the videos so far, just picked up one of these things this evening and the entire fuel system is disassembled. Finding it super hard to find any diagrams to go by for reassembly. Is it possible to find one online anywhere?
There is somewhere a service manual posted. Search for the model year or near it. I don’t have the link but I did print it and I show it in my videos. For fuel. Clean the tank to the carb. Check everything. My issue was dirty fuel filter, worn needle, crud in tank. Hole in fuel filter gaskets. And I had a leak in the crankcase.
@@alphawhiskyadventures Thanks for the quick reply! Sounds like you had far more trouble than I had for sure. I got it figured out and up and running this morning, however. Turns out I had the primer hooked up wrong. I'll def keep an eye out for the service manual though it's difficult to drop 50+ bucks on one for a 200 dollar machine. Can't wait to ride it later this winter
This looks like an absolute blast. Hopefully they make brakes for these rigs ( thinking of my Akita 🤣).
It is! No brakes- except your feet!
THANK YOU!! I'm at Hemingway now, and have been wandering around in the dark looking for the bear box. Was about to give up, so glad I found your video first!

They are coming! Thanks for the encouragement, in total there will be around 10. Currently rebuilding the engine. Had a few weeks wait for a $5 part to come from EBay.
Fantastic video! Thank you 😊
