Let me tell you it's a national thing my 21 f 150 with 50k miles blow the motor. But was going to be covered under warranty my truck sat from May and didn't get it back till February that's 9 months of waiting and making payments on something you can't drive 😂
Wow, that really sucks. Its one thing if you can't get an engine for your project car, its another if its your DD and you need it to make a living.
Update: So a couple days ago, I reached out to Ford to see if they could provide more specifics than Summit was able to. They echoed what Summit said, the Gen3 shortage is due to a part unavailability (they wouldn't tell me which part). So essentially they can't build them until that part becomes available again. They do plan to have a limited number available eventually, but at the time of this post, they don't have a timetable. The Gen 4 is out now, and there is typically a gradual transition when a previous generation is sunset. That transition window could be shortened this time around if it takes a while for that line to get back up. As for the FFR folks, there are people talking about Gen 4's in their 65 Coupe or Roadster, but I haven't seen anyone try it yet. It looks like fitting the dual throttle bodies/intakes will be the biggest challenge. 5/31: Thank you to @Lesterman_1 for the update. Looks like Ford anticipated issues with the dual throttle body and is releasing the Gen 4X, part number M-6007-M50H in the summer of 2024. I just saw the spec sheet and you will trade some HP/Torque running the single throttle body: Gen 4 - 480HP @ 7,150 RPM / 415 Torque @ 4,900 RPM Gen 4X - 460 HP @ 7,000 RPM / 420 Torque @ 4,600 RPM The Gen 4X will require a unique controller pack, the manual control pack part number is M-6017-M50HM. Manual power module part number is M-9000-PMCM4X.
Gen 4X coming in the summer with a single throttle body, for better fitment.
@@Lesterman_1 Thanks for that update.
@@Walton_Racing Ford Motor Company is finally starting to listen! 👍
So? Where are they? Why is Ford experiencing a parts shortage in 2024? That's why I clicked!
Sorry, I didn't mean for it to come off so vague, but they aren't sharing a lot. I just pinned an update, but basically Ford can't build the Gen3 because they can't get a hold of one of the parts to build them. They didn't share with me which part, but they did say they plan to have a limited number released eventually, but could not provide a timetable on when. I've seen ZERO reporting on this situation, so hopefully more people talking about it will help get some answers.
I did this with a hacksaw, both sides - 3 blades. Cheaters 😂
Lol, you caught us 😂🤣😂🤣
Cleeter McSkeeter has probably put a dent in the supply lol
That man buys engines like groceries, lol.
Some people are Ford people, some people are not. I like the crowd that mess with Fords. There's all kinds of Motorsports but, I'm into Ford Motorsports. It is not necessarily hard to understand. Those that hate "Ford purists", hate Fords and I'm not trying to start anything; I'm just stating what is. I'll still be your friend! 🤣
To each their own. As long as you like it, that's all that matters.
I would do a Cummins 6.7l
Is that you Westen?
@@Walton_Racing no I’m a diesel mechanic tho
I'm sure you're loving his Mustang Cummins swap.
@@Walton_Racing I do however right now there is only one other vehicle on TH-cam that has a billet 6.7l
Try to ask Cleetus McFarland. they use more coyote engine and destroy them faster than them changing underpants
😁🤣🤣
Lol 😂🤣😂
Wonder why there is a shortage? Lotta people buying coyote’s now a days? I can’t afford a new coyote. But I DID get a gen 2 coyote core that had spun a bearing for 1,000 bucks at my shop. Needs a new rotating assembly but I’m putting in the work. Gonna swap it in my 89 Foxbody. 😎
Sounds like you have a fun project ahead of you! So the shortage is specifically for the base Gen 3. I reached out to Ford and it is due to a part unavailability (wouldn't tell me which part), so they can't build them until that part becomes available again. They do plan to have a limited number available eventually, but they don't have a timetable. It looks like fitting the dual throttle bodies/intakes will be the biggest challenge.
is that pacific raceways in kent @1:08?
Good eye, it is indeed.
Great job with the pivot and getting an engine in quickly. I really enjoy your videos.
I want to build one of these so damn bad. I'm glad you guys are doing a more current build video.
Looks good! FYI, you want to torque the nut, not the bolt. Doing it the way you did in the video on the control arm gives less than accurate torque reading.
Thanks, good catch, but in this case since the bolt head and nut face have the same diameter and the contact surfaces are the same, giving the same coefficient of friction, would it matter?
@@Walton_Racing Its the resistance inside the shaft area of the bolt (where it goes thru the bushing) that will affect the torque readings, despite the head size itself being the same. Every once in a while this is unavoidable on certain vehicles, due to difficult access points, but putting the torque wrench on the bolt head and not the nut can result in torque readings being artificially higher than what they actually are. Basically, you can under-torque the fastener.
That makes sense, thanks for the conversation and the words of wisdom.
@@Walton_Racing Welcome! Looking forward to seeing the rest of the build. My dream is to build one of these, some day.
Hi. Really enjoying your videos; you folks do very nice, clean, professional work. When you show modifications, would you please add a little extra detail about why you are performing a particular modification? For example, why did you cut the fuel intake tube before connecting it to the fuel tank? Thank you. Looking forward to more videos soon!
Thanks Randall! I had some voiceover explaining that mod but I forgot to include it, so I’ll explain it here. The stock filler tube isn’t long enough/shaped right to get from the filler cap to the tank, so you combine the 2 pieces we cut with a rubber filler tube (which also has to be modified) and you hose clamp them all together. We’ll make sure to show that when its time to assemble.
@@Walton_Racing Thank you! I'm considering purchasing & building a FFR Type 65 coupe in a few years, so I'm watching all the assembly videos I can find. I'm trying to figure out if my mechanical skills [took auto shop & engine rebuilding in both high school and college] are enough for me to actually complete this project. Have to admit, the modifications & fabrications in your videos look a bit daunting to an amateur such as myself.
Can you put like a Foxbody or another ford old school 5.0 engine in there. Not 🚫 a Coyote though. & Will fit?
You can absolutely run a 302 and will have more room to work with than you would with the Coyote. Our build theme is a modern take on a classic design, which is why we went with that engine.
I just love your content. You guys make educational as well as great quality videos. Thanks for sharing. It takes a lot of work to produce content at this level.
Thanks Thomas! Just watched your door video, I bet you’re itching to get her on the road!
@Walton_Racing soon, I hope. Need to get the hood on, then lights and a couple other things and I'm going to try to get her titled and registered. Then actually finish her over the winters.
Nice work. I am enjoying the build and music you are providing. It's making me want to build a Daytona coupe.
Thanks! We have links to all the artists in the video descriptions if you want to check them out.
Great video! thanks for all the detail! Do you guys have a list of all the tools and other stuff you had to buy?
Thanks Aaron! We don’t have a list ourselves, but if you go on the Factory Five forums, others have some posted.
I know its too late and you have already enlarged holes but a ream would be a better choice then a drill bit because you could eccentric the hole with a drill bit
Thanks for the feedback. Maybe it will help someone reading this in the future.
Subscribed! Im building one of these soon with a sbf, 5 speed and 2015 irs, gonna be my track car i take out when its sunny. Wishing yall the best on your build from South Carolina!!! 🎉
Thanks for the sub and good luck on the build!
When's the next uodate??
Thanks for checking in! We took a little break for the easter holiday, so we’ll probably have another episode in the next week or so. It will feature updates to our shop and the fuel tank install.
Thank you! I just wanted to let you guys know your videos are great! I was unsure if I was capable of undertaking such a feat but watching you guys has motivated me to take on this challenge ! Looking forward to your entire build series.
@@mr.rajikon3911 We really appreciate that! This project is like anything in life. There will be ups and downs and there will be challenges to overcome, but you have a great community of builders and a great company in Factory Five that will help you along the way.
Top control arm mounts to the suspension knuckle in shear. The knuckle is aluminum. I wonder if that will cause problems down the road.
That would be a good question for Karen Salvaggio. She's been racing a Coupe she built a few years ago with this IRS configuration. She also helped put together the drivetrain package we bought from Summit.
Why new studs? Different length?
Great question. The Ford rear hubs come with metric studs (14mm x 1.50) and the front hubs from Factory Five come with SAE studs (1/2-20). Technically we could have left them on, but that would mean we would need a different set of lug nuts for the fronts and rears and that would be a pain to remember.
Hahaha must have been easy to be 3 to mount that differential... Took me 5 hours doing it alone, with a jack and a cherry picker... Wasn't fun, especially the last bolt to align... used a bull pin to align the last hole...
Ouch, 5 hours is brutal! I'm sure it felt awesome once that last bolt went in.
Yeah, brutal is the word, but I got my VIN number yesterday, and started the engine for the first time last Saturday... That felt even better. I need to redo all the wiring work, I am not happy with the current status, so I got a relay box, and need to set up a Daytime Running Light, because Canada. Next finish the touch up around the engine, like coolant, filling the AC, already did the power steering, need to recheck the hydraulic clutch (must have air in the lines) Then I am about to start setting the body, and body work will begin, also interior... A long long road, but it's so rewarding
This could already be the best car-build video I have seen. For me it's not so much about the car, I know it well ( I met the late John Olson here in Aotearoa New Zealand ). My best buddy was apprenticed to him at Casino Motors, donkey's years ago. ( Sadly, he also has passed ). As well as my trade ( Composite engineer ), I am also certified in Film and Television ( odd bedfellows, I know !). As such I feel I can comment on this video, which is superb. Great camera work and sound recording, images are clear ( how important is lighting ?) and demonstrative, altogether an excellent production. Best wishes for the build, I'll be with you all the way !! BTW, look on U-tube for the story of John and Pete Brock developing the original cars, there may also be something about John building ( if my memory serves me correctly ), the only Shelby certified continuation example, completed after John's death by his son( whose first name escapes me now. Also, FYI, John went to Europe with the late Bob Wallace, who was instrumental in the development of early Lamborghini's, in particular, the Miura, the ORIGINAL supercar. Not bad for a couple of Kiwi kids !! Think also, Bruce McLaren, Burt Munro, Jon Britten, C.W.F Hamilton ( inventor of the marine jet propulsion unit). And Nascar fans, look out for SVG, first driver in 60 years to win a Nascar race on debut ( Chicago,) For sure there will be other examples of Kiwi's doing great things internationally. Oh yeah, Brendon Hartley and Earl Bamber, Le Mans winners !! Go, somebody stop me !!
Shame I can't type so well ! Film and Television production and God, somebody stop me ! Al
Al, thanks for the love from NZ! Believe it or not, we're pretty green when it comes to film production, so we are learning the ropes on lighting/rigs/sound/filters etc. People don't believe we filmed these first three videos with an iPhone15 Pro, which just goes to show the huge advances in smart phone tech. We're playing around with some new gear, including a Sony FX30 we just built, so we're hoping to bring improvements to future videos as we learn and grow these skills. We really appreciate the kind words, especially from you industry folks! We're familiar with Jim Price's Superformance, who own licenses for the Cobra, Daytona, and GT40. They build beautiful cars for sure, but we really wanted to be able to say we built a car from "scratch", so a Turn Key Minus (TKM) wasn't an option for us. Cheers to all the Kiwis in motorsport! Chris started getting into F1 when Hartley was driving with Toro Rosso.
Just found your channel and subscribed. Look forward to updates. I'm building a Hurricane Cobra and 32 Ford right now if interested!
Thanks! Just checked out the builds and the new shop. Looks good! I bet you're ready to get some tools in there and start working!
This content is spot on. Video quality, voiceover, attention to detail are 10/10. Makes you appreciate a brotherly bond. Guessing you guys are some Carolina boys from the ECU hat. If so, GO PIRATES!
Thanks for the kind words on our production! Its still hard to believe that we shot it on an iPhone 15. We'll have some fun new things to try out soon, so we hope to provide even better content in the future!
Looks great guys! Thank you for taking time to shoot a video, edit it, and post it. You are helping the guys who are following you. Keep the videos coming!! Virginia coupe builder, at the go-cart stage. Body work to come.
Thanks John, we appreciate it! Good luck with the bodywork!
I've been seeing a ton of youtubers in the automotive industry who have less than like 1k subs, yet the content is arguably better than most channels with millions of subs. keep it up guys. i cant wait for your channel to explode.
Wow, thank you so much for this comment! All three of us (and dad when he finally makes it in a video) have full-time jobs on top of running this channel, so to hear people say things like this motivates us to keep going. Thanks again for the support!
love this! can't wait to watch the rest of the series! very well done nd super helpful for those of us who are looking to do this project ourselves!
Thanks Andrew! We're glad that you are enjoying our build so far and we really appreciate the support. It means a lot!

was this the base or complete kit? I am looking into doing this myself and am trying to get a grasp of what each kit looks like
This is the complete kit, plus some extras (Wilwood brakes, optional Mustang IRS, power steering kit, some Coupe R parts, etc.)

Hey are you all in eastern North Carolina? I saw one of you with a ECU Pirates hat.
Chris went to school there. We’re in the DMV. Go Pirates!
Love this! Great videography and editing 👌 Subscribed.
Thanks David!
It did the same thing!!
Thanks for taking time to edit & post your videos. Looking good. I'm a few weeks ahead of you with my Coupe project; engine installed, speedometer calibrated, ready to begin body work. One bite at a time. Keep the videos coming. Do you allow visitors to come see your project?
Hey John, thanks for the kind words and congrats on the progress of your build! We really appreciate the quote “One bite at a time” because it is the philosophy we follow with our build. I believe there are some out there that are interested in building one of these cars, but hesitate because the feel like they might get overwhelmed. *To those reading this and thinking about building one of these cars: My brothers, dad, and I have 0 experience building cars, ZERO. Sure we have a good foundation of mechanical knowledge, but anyone willing to put the time and effort in can do this. Plus there is a great community of builders and a supportive company in Factory Five to learn from. You can do this!* As far as visitors to the shop, we’re not quite ready yet, as we’re still working on the construction of our space. This is something we’ll think about offering in the future.
I had the pleasure of meeting Thomas at his shop (Oak Hollow Garage); he and I were on pace with one another with our respective projects. I had originally ordered a Blue Point 347 like what Thomas put into his Coupe, but things happened long before I got my motor from Blue Print and I wound up with a Coyote. A California builder has a fantastic series of youtube videos under this name: Cobra Daytona Build. Yup - he should have named his channel Coupe Daytona Build, but oh well. I'm completing my project in Virginia. You guys are welcome to stop by if you are ever nearby. JDW
Nice job guys! Keep the videos coming, it greatly helps out the community. Thomas and I are at the same stage of our Coupe builds. I hope to get mine on the road by August. I am finishing up my dash with AC vents and installing the windshield wiper motor. Body work to come. Best wishes on your build! Where are you located?
Thanks John! We appreciate the support and congrats on the progress you’ve made! It keeps us motivated when we hear our videos are helping folks or adding to the excitement of their own builds. We are located on the east coast in the DMV area.
I'm half way between Richmond & Norfolk. JDW
Dude! Excellent videography and great content. And thanks for the shoutout!
keep posting these! my kit is due for completion today!
Thanks! Awesome to hear your kit is almost ready. Delivery day is a great experience!
Looks like a fun time. Are you installing the rear-end next episode?
We are!
Good luck with the build. I've had fun with mine so far. Looking forward to what you guys do!
Thanks Thomas! We really appreciate all the hard work you’ve put into the videos sharing your build, as we regularly watch them to prepare for that step. I don’t want to spoil it, but keep an eye out for episode 2!
Did you do the complete kit or base? I have been looking at getting a coupe in the next 2 years. I just went on the FF website and a complete with good additional options was hitting $39k.
This is the complete kit plus some parts from the R. We decided not to go full R because we want to drive it on the street and didn’t think the DMV would be too keen on the extra bracing across the windscreen. Good luck on acquiring your kit! This is a great community of builders and our experience with Factory Five has been awesome.
Don’t you just love that little click of the torque wrench 😂
It is a satisfying sound indeed!😂🤣
Where are you guys doing this? What state
