Performance Horse Arena is in Grants Pass, Oregon. We are an educational training center for both horse and rider. Weekly classes in Horsemanship, Trail, Roping and Junior Horsemanship Program. Injections on a young horse
TROUBLESHOOT ISSUES
We had this 6 year old come to Tom with issues of wanting to Cow kick when going to lift his hind feet, especially the right hind. Not a safe situation for the new owner or the farrier. His feet had not been done in a while and the farrier had a battle to get a set on. He also had very serious teeth issues that needed addressed.
He had been started to ride when he was young but had been out to pasture a couple years. The thought was he was out of shape and had a attitude about going back to work.
Tom immediately noticed this horse wasn't traveling correctly and had a confirmation issue on the right hind leg. He decided the program for this horse would be rehab along with teaching. Tom started with exercises to build strength. He would stretch and massage to help this horse before and after his training routine.
After a few weeks, the horse was getting sore and Tom felt he may have hock issues in the hind legs. Our chiropractor Casey has showed Tom some tests to use on a horse to see if horses need help.
We took this horse to Casey and he said he definitely has hocks that need injections. I know there is a lot of controversy on injections but if done correctly they can give a horse a better life. This horse has something we see often and that is he is a big horse that grows fast at a young age. The joints will sometimes not have enough fluid to carry them into their adult years.
We took him to see Dr Jeff Jones who is a expert in injections. He told us this horse was very sore in his hocks and stifles. He also said when a young horse has pain issues that are addressed it helps them in their confidence and willing to learn. You have a older horse that needs injections and they understand the difference because the instantly feel the relief.
This video is 3 weeks after injections. Tom had to give 5 days off instead of the normal 2 for this horse. We noticed the horse immediately felt better by his disposition. He was wanting to come to us instead of turning and walking away. Gradually he was getting better about lifting his hind feet to be cleaned.
Another thing you will notice with a horse having hock issues is getting in the trailer they tend to jump in because stepping up is uncomfortable. Now he is stepping up much better. The owner came to ride before and after injections and even she noticed he was moving so much better. As time goes by this horse will continue to feel better and realize he can move his feet without pain. ❤️🏇🌲

Heard a loud bang after 10pm and ran out of the main house to check on horses. Everything was fine. This guy did a really nice job with this young horse. Congratulations, good work. thanks for sharing your videos and what to expect. We are thinking of bringing a team from Canada in 2023 (if we can make it thru the mountain passes in November).
Thank you so much for the comment. We have met some really great people from Canada when we stay in Arizona for the winter. They actually have several Canadian Team Roping events. The Oregon Horse Center has a trail competition in August. It would be better travel weather. Hopefully the November show will allow you to travel with your horses. It is impressive to have such an amazing trail course inside a building.❤️🏇🌲
