Zhao's creator, Kang Jing, joins us in this episode of 'Both Sides now' to discuss the Wuxia genre, the work that goes into producing the first fully 'Made-in-Singapore' Wuxia Graphic Novel, and how this is a story that is near and dear to his heart.
ALSO, Api is surprisingly the quietest guy on the show this time.

Jiangsu - in zona Shanghai - sunt mulți oameni (!) - toți sunt urmaşii Cucuteni & Yangshao!!! Guizhou - in zona de sud a Chinei - e o civilizatie TOTAL - Cucuteni & Yangshao, Geto-Daci până-n măduva oaselor!!! Giáy, Giang - in Vietnam. In limba română inseamnă "Geții". Ei, in Vietnam, chiar sunt vechii geți :) (geto-dacii).

That's why sometimes it's better to be the only child or two children, boy and girl instead of multiple brother or sister siblings. It eliminates competition to inheritance or throne in political families. This sibling rivalry is a reccurring theme throughout Chinese dynastic and world histories.

You are hmong people living abroad and you are foreigners. . The Miao and Han people in China almost have the same origin. In ancient times, the three major tribes in the Yellow River Basin, the Yandi tribe and the huangdi tribe, united to form the Han people, so the Han people called themselves descendants of Yan and Huang. The leader of another tribe was Chi You, who was defeated by the coalition forces of the emperor and Emperor Yan. And this tribe began to migrate southward to form the Miao tribe. This happened three thousand years ago. The Miao people are one of the most patriotic ethnic minorities. They will always be Chinese.

I love history and the sense of antiquity attached to Ancient things/civilizations and what led me here is the exploration of how some of the character scribes of Chinese writings sort of resemble the script of Cuneiform! Yet comes after Sanskrit (which adds curvature to writing) so for me it's a paradox to make sense of how curves fused into Japanese script from Chinese seems to be a similar sense of adaption of how Sanskrit script may have had influenced early forms of akkadian/phonecian script that (to me) seemed to add curvature to writing systems. So in conclusion I'm thinking how does Chinese scripts/characters resemble more of Cuneiform look than Sankrit which geographically seems to not support that sense of familiarity amongst the writing systems! Feel me? 😂😂😂

Mandate of Heaven, wasn't that developed under the Zhou Dynasty to legitimize their claim and rule? The Zhou defeated the Shang dynasty and had no claim. They develop the concept that a good king gets its right to rule from heaven, and heaven can give that right to anyone. Like Liu Bang, who founded the Hans dynaaty. He was a commoner. I think Yu the Great would have not prayed to heaven, but to his ancestral gods, city god, ancestors, and spirits.

Chu nobility are descendants of Huaxia or central plains culture (chinese ancestors). So Hmong are not simply descendants pf Chu state, though they may be one of the many tribes of the Baiyue in the south. Which Chu would expand to the southern regions after annexing Wu and Yue state and subject the native Yue tribes (which include ancestors to modern peoples zhuang, miao/hmong, vietnamese, dai, etc) to pay tribute to the Chu state. Chu expansion and subjection of the south allowed cultural exchange between the Chu’s original huaxia culture and the various baiyue tribes, and it started the process of sinicization that Qin and every suceeding dynasty would enhance southwards. No “expert” would say Chu was a hmong/miao state. Even in the video he says Chu was closely related to other central plains states and simply diverged over time. Early ancestors of Hmong/miao were merely subjected to tribute and sinizciation from Chu.

I am Hmong and I heard so many gossip and fairytales about how bad of the Chinese did to us Hmong n Miao ethnicity people back then. But as I look at us n see us at this current generation, from china to Thailand to Laos and to the USA on how we are. I don’t want to elaborate n say what i see n how I think about us but do you have anything about if the Chinese kept any written history about us of how we live n our interest. Because I keep seeing n hearing that we don’t have any written history because the china won’t allow it or because the Chinese government burn it. Is there some truth to it. the way I see how we live n practice n carry ourselves. I have some doubt about that.

Congratulations, you have pulled the curtains back, you just need to look through it now and see the real china and history. Why would china destroy or burn their own history? And only do it for Miao and not the other 1000s of even worse stuff that happened in Chinese history? Its not easy to destroy or hide or fake history, especially in the last 70 years china was poorer than Africa and hard enough just fighting to survive and develop and feed themselves let alone do some national level historical amnesia and destroy all historical evidence without affecting or destroying all the other histories along with it. It's like trying to change some details of a famous painting. You won't be able to do it, expert will always see you changed it or covered something up with new paints and the paint lines do not match up or connect smoothly and the colors don't match perfectly.

The reason is that the Miao people didn’t have written system. It has nothing to do with the Chinese government’s prohibition. Many extinct ethnic groups have left behind written languages. Moreover, many ethnic minorities around the Miao have their own scripts.

I've got no problem with Chinese but I dislike hypocrisy. As the current China is upset at Japan for ww2. It's like (dude China yall did the same to get that much land too, you can't be mad its almost like what goes around comes around) agian I got nothing to be upset about but it's like that you can't be mad someone get ya. Just saying

1000s of years ago is different to WW2 and denying you did it also and teaching lies. It's not just china but everyone. The people Japan did it to are still alive or their kids are alive and to hear Japan deny they did any crime or they say your mother was willing prostitute instead of being raped forcibly is something you would "get over it" if it was your mother or sister who got raped and killed and Japan then playing the victim and said she was a prostitute who fucked all the jap soldiers willingly for money?

History in general is written by conquerors, aka genocide murders and rapists. They can tweak it however way they want. Chinese history especially is not accurate according to the "books". Also, this isn't a Chinese problem, this is a global problem.
