Orca Tales: Corky's Journey
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 16 ก.พ. 2024
Welcome to my channel for Corky II (A16). Corky is a 59-year-old female Northern Resident Orca who has the distinction of being one of the oldest and longest-held orcas in captivity. She has been pregnant at least 7 times, but none of Corky's calves lived past the age of 47 days. At her current place of residence, SeaWorld San Diego, Corky has taken on a maternal role for numerous young whales over the years including her adopted son "Ike" (Ikaika). Corky currently resides with 7 other Orcas (Ulises, Orkid, Keet, Shouka, Ikaika, Kalia and Makani). I will also be featuring as well Orcas with upcoming birthdays at SeaWorld San Diego and also to remember the ones that have passed away at SeaWorld San Diego! #BringCorkyHome

she looks a lot like corky!
@@kalinaque1355 I noticed that as well! Yaka almost looked like Corky's twin but as far as I know they were only cousins!
Yes she does and I'm a huge fan of Corky she's 60 years old now
@OrcaTalesCorkysJourney That's why the resemblance is so strong cause I'm a huge fan of Corky she's 60 years old now and still performing like she's 18 years old
I got to see her in 1996. This is a nice tribute !
With enough time, I'm VERY confident Corky can, like Keiko, be retrained to catch live fish and reintegrate with her family. She's NOT too old and still has decades of life left to live there.
Disgusting and disgraceful. Orcas do not belong in aquariums it's absolutely cruel.
@@anthonyrooksmith3189 I couldn't agree with you more, Corky does not belong here!
@@OrcaTalesCorkysJourney Years ago, a recording of orca dolphins from the A5 pod, Corky's family, was played to her and she was the only orca to respond to the dialect. Her entire body started to shake violently! Need I say more on WHY she's ready for retirement to her home waters?
San Diego has the best pod!. SeaWorld got so lucky to have a beautiful whale like Keet.. that boy's personality is phenomenal
@@amandae8437 he does have quite the personality doesn't he? Ike is the same way!
Bet Corky and Ike would LOVE some huge Chinook salmon. Corky's family almost exclusively eats these fish.
@@CoreyMillionaire2029 for Corky yes but if Ike was in the wild he would be eating seals and those sorts of things since he is Icelandic!
@@OrcaTalesCorkysJourney Icelandic orca dolphins eat mostly herring.
@@CoreyMillionaire2029 yes you are correct, it's the Transient Orcas that eat seals not the Icelandic!
@@OrcaTalesCorkysJourney Orca are still opportunistic carnivores though. They'll eat any animal they can kill and will certainly scavenge when they can.
@@OrcaTalesCorkysJourney Hey, you ever been to SeaWorld? I'll NEVER set foot in there until ALL cetaceans and pinniped tanks are empty or replaced with human performances and/or CGI effects.
If Corky had not been captured, she would have enjoyed the same freedom as her sister Ripple, brother Fife, niece Midsummer, great-nephews Fern and Ne'nakw, great-niece Eliot, and cousin Surge. Instead of her younger sister being the matriarch, Corky would have taken on that role. Perhaps she would have children and grandchildren. Orcas possess a highly advanced limbic system and the most gyrified brain of any species. They are too intelligent to be kept in small tanks or forced to perform tricks for tourist entertainment.
Corky is truly stunning and remarkable. Despite all the challenges she has faced, she has maintained her sweet disposition. I've put together a list of my favorite orca books : Listening to Whales: What the Orcas Have Taught Us by Alexandra Morton Into Great Silence: A Memoir of Discovery and Loss among Vanishing Orcas by Eva Saulitis Death at Seaworld: Shamu and the Dark Side of Killer Whales in Captivity by David Kirby Endangered Orcas: The Story of the Southern Residents by Monika Wieland Shields Superpod: Saving the Endangered Orcas of the Pacific Northwest by Nora Nickum The Killer Whale Who Changed The World by Mark Leiren-Young The Lost Whale: The True Story of an Orca Named Luna by Michael Parfit and Suzanne Chisholm

Any news from SeaWorld yet? If they wanna improve their company image, they'll need to get their rears in gear and talk to Double Bay Sanctuary officials.
No not yet 😢
@@kellykeagybullock Had a real agreement with someone who believes Corky shouldn't be returned to her home waters today.
@@ibrahimsultanov7355 Do u really think Corky should rather stay in a concrete tank rather be returned to her home waters?
@@ibrahimsultanov7355 Never mind.
@@ibrahimsultanov7355 I'm talking about a better quality of life for an orca dolphin, not a bird.
Stay strong Corky, because you WILL be returned to your brother and sister in British Columbia very soon! And you'll be able to live as a dolphin should be!
@@ibrahimsultanov7355 Remaining in that tank any longer is a DEATH SENTENCE. SeaWorld is NOT her home and those trainers are NOT her family.
@@ibrahimsultanov7355 She has two siblings and nieces and nephews, and Corky still speaks the A5 dialect of her pod.
@@ibrahimsultanov7355 Again, she still speaks their family dialect. When they're in hearing distance of each other, that vocal recognition will take over. When orca experts once played calls from Corky's family to her in her tank, she was the only one to respond to them. Corky's whole body started to shake! Her memories of the waters of her birth are still strong after six decades and she doesn't deserve to die knowing only concrete walls.
@@ibrahimsultanov7355 Corky DESERVES to come home to her family. If she's just allowed to die in that tiny (for an orca) tank, that's a gloomy thought. She's still alive so she STILL has a chance to retire, but for how much longer? Any time now she could just take that last breath and drop to the bottom of that tank at SeaWorld? With respect to the question of "education" of SeaWorld, it's malarkey. It's like having Walt Disney tell us how the biology of mice works! Corky in a tank no more represents a real dolphin than Mickey Mouse represents a real mouse.
@@ibrahimsultanov7355 You have MISSED the point of what I've been trying to tell you entirely!!!
I'm 💯 percent Fan of Forever Corky the Matriarch of all the Whales and Forever fan of Ikaika I Love them both with all my Heart and Ikaika looking just like Tilikum and Katina

@@ibrahimsultanov7355Haters gotta hate, I guess. Sad shame that Corky can't count on YOU to give back a semblance of the life these parks are denying her of!😤
@@ibrahimsultanov7355 I'm just talking about a better life for the orcas in captivity. Corky was born in the chilly waters of the Pacific and she has been robbed of her natural liberty. Her life has been one of misery and deprivation, denied of everything natural and important to her.
ANYTHING yet from SeaWorld about taking with Double Bay Sanctuary to retire her??!!
@@CoreyMillionaire2029 unfortunately no, still no word from SeaWorld!
@@OrcaTalesCorkysJourney They DO know about the Double Bay Sanctuary as well as the Nova Scotia whale sanctuary though right?
Our Dear beautiful Corky❤
She can't go home in the condition she's in, she'll die! She's blind in one eye, missing a majority of her teeth, etc. Sending her back into the wild is a death sentence. Plus, she adopted Makani after his own mother past away!
Not only that, Corky's mom is, more then likely, gone herself. Whats the point??
But hes free, she not
As do I apologise to Orkid for the belated birthday wishes. Hope you had as good of a day that you could have. 🖤🤍🖤
Another gift she deserves is to go with her adopted grandmother Corky to Double Bay Sanctuary and experience the natural rhythm of the sea.
I know her Birthday was on Monday and I apologize for the belated upload!
For those who dont know who Amaya is, Amaya was a 6 year old orcinus orca that lived at SeaWorld San Diego (SWSD for short) Amaya’s mother was Kalia and the father was Ulises. She was born on Dec, 2, 14, and passed away on Aug, 19, 2021, The same year her uncle Nakai passed away, Today (Sep, 24, 24 pun not included) Amaya would be 9, mabye even 10! Amaya means “Night Rain” in arabic, Amaya died to gastro-intestinal disease. Her grandparents are Kassy, and Keet. There great grandparents and great great grandparents are, Kalina, Kotar, Katina, And Winston. Her sibling is Moana and her uncles and aunts are, Baby Shamu 2, Katerina, Takara, Unna, Skyla, Hayln, Nalani, Taku, Keto, Tuar, Nakai, Ikaika, Makani, and Makaio. Her cousins are Kohana, Trua, Nalani (idk why), Kari, A- dan, Victoria, Kamea, Kyara, and Ula. Her name is pronounced AH-my-AH, her other names are Kissa and Nasia. She is great great grandbaby Shamu and she is 93.75% icelandic and 6.25% southern resident.
Me again. Any news on our sweet Corky's retirement?
nothing new!!
@@OrcaTalesCorkysJourney Have u ever written to the Chairman of SeaWorld, Scott Ross? He'd be willing to listen.
@@CoreyMillionaire2029 no, writing to someone is really not my thing!
@@OrcaTalesCorkysJourney What about me? I'm wanting to do it to help Corky, but I want some feedback on how I should write my letter and if it should be long and detailed to have Scott understand how orcas are suffering at SeaWorld. I could mention how he'd be saving her life by retiring her and the other dolphins, how returning her to her family would make him a national hero and improve SeaWorld's image. Should I also bring up Fife and Ripple and how Corky's still able to speak her pod's dialect? They once played a recording of calls from the A5 pod to Corky and her entire body started shaking!
@@CoreyMillionaire2029 sure, I am all for it!
Me again. Just thinking of Corky. I still believe she CAN be reintegrated with her pod, after she's had some considerable time to acclimate to her sea pen near Blackfish Sound. After all that suffering in a tank, her being able to feel true seawater will help her recover, to rebuild her stamina, relearning to catch live salmon, echolocate, dive deeply, swim meaningful distances, and simply be a dolphin again like Keiko did. Wouldn't you agree?

I’m late but happy birthday beautiful boy!
That backdrop of the Pacific Northwest is an ABSOLUTE MOCKERY of the freedom these dolphins, including Corky, are denied of!! Same goes for mocking video images of wild orcas expressing true behaviors not seen in that tank.
Wow my youngest is 22. Oh what a beautiful boy. Happy 22nd Birthday Ikaika 🖤🤍🖤
Unless he's retired to a seaside sanctuary soon, he sadly WON'T have much longer left in that sea circus!
@@CoreyMillionaire2029 I agree. We so need to get him to a seaside sanctuary. We can’t just keep wild animals in captivity. It’s so unfair.
@@LornaCrawford-h9p Orcas are COMPLETELY unfit for captivity. Same for great white sharks and leopard seals. You don't see THEM at SeaWorld doing tricks for kids.
@@CoreyMillionaire2029he was born in captivity, and taking them from their family they have ever known would be super cruel,I agree they shouldn't be in captivity in the first place but he needs to stay with his san diego pod.
@@RosieandTapekoif the entire San Diego pod was moved to a sanctuary, they’d probably all live longer lives and thrive in larger environments. I’m against captivity, but I still kinda wanna be in the fandom :]. Seaside sanctuaries could work, but releasing them into the wild? That is indeed cruel.
They should not be in captive
I do agree they shouldn't be in captivity but taking them from the family they have known for years would be cruel and they wouldn't want to be separated because the orcas in captivity have grown so close together,we can't release them either, because most were born in captivity and only a couple were wild, and none of them reamber or know how to survive in the wild.
these 2 perform so well together!!
They'll perform EVEN BETTER in a sea pen, where they can be real dolphins again. SeaWorld can use clowns and mimes in their shows, not marine mammals. It's unethical, uneducational, and undignified on so many levels. Double Bay Sanctuary and SeaWorld hopefully are talking about Corky's homecoming at this point. And how freeing her will improve their park image!
@@CoreyMillionaire2029they can't force them to perform they are way bigger than us humans,They don't have to perform either, they don't always want them to perform!
@@RosieandTapeko They use food deprivation, disguised as "positive reinforcement".
@@CoreyMillionaire2029 still the same orcas don't perform everyday just the days they feel like it,they get enrichment toys sometimes as well
@@RosieandTapeko Seaside sanctuaries will give them some semble of the life these parks are denying them of! A sterile and barren tank is NOTHING compared to the ocean environment they're evolved for! They can dive deeply, echolocate without walls reverberatimg back at them, swim meaningful distances, interact with crabs on the seabed, feel the tides and current, hear seabirds calling, (re)learn to catch live fish, play in the kelp beds, breach on their own will, and their overall health will improve GREATLY. Now THAT'S enrichment.
RIP Kasatka so sorry. 😭🫶🏼
How devastating. This is heartbreaking. RIP Kandu 5
RIP sweet Amaya 😭😭😭 so sorry
😭😭😭😭😭😭🥺
Kasatka was born knowing flowing tides, diving deep, chasing herring, and feeling her mother's love by her side for what should have been for her whole life. She NEVER deserved to be brought to SeaWorld to sell overly priced tickets!
Any word on SeaWorld and Double Bay Sanctuary talking about Corky's homecoming? They KNOW their business image is beyond repair UNLESS they starting retiring the orcas and other animals. It's a new era and SeaWorld knows they CAN go on much longer with these shows.
How many babies did Corky have again?
7 total! 4 live births, 2 miscarriages and 1 stillborn.
Even if her daughter HAD survived to adulthood, the ABUSEment park would've eventually ripped her away from Corky to ship her as a commodity to another marine park prison to breed MORE sea circus performers. Probably long before she was even old enough to stoop nursing herself! SeaWorld claims to "respect" the lifelong bonds orca dolphins share the wild, but they're completely uneducated about orcas as a species by far, to the outrageous point where they try to paint ACTUAL orca experts as crazy and dumb to the public. Especially considering the lifespan of orcas in nature.
That very saddddd😢😢😢😢😢😭😭😭
He NEVER should've stayed at SeaWorld at all. He deserved to feel flowing tides, dive deeply, interact with crabs and fish, live with his mom for life!
