The anthem of the Second Mexican Empire, which existed from 1864 to 1867 under Emperor Maximilian I, was the Himno Nacional Mexicano (Mexican National Anthem). However, it was not specifically created for the Second Mexican Empire; it had already been adopted in 1854, during the earlier Republican era.
During Maximilian's reign, the Himno Nacional Mexicano remained the official anthem, though the Empire's military and national identity were also heavily influenced by European and conservative ideals. There was no separate official anthem created for the Empire itself, and the Himno Nacional Mexicano was used for the duration of the empire, even though Maximilian's reign was marked by efforts to forge ties with European monarchies.
The anthem's lyrics, written by Francisco González Bocanegra and music composed by Jaime Nunó, became a symbol of national unity, which continued even during the imperial period.
