On this channel we discuss aspects of marine engineering and technology and work on some fun projects along the way.
FORD DORSET DOVER 6cyl Mermaid Sabre Lehman 2704 2726 2728 OVER 1 MILLION produced before 1980!
A tribute to these tough old diesel engines built in England.

MERCURY 400R vs EVINRUDE G2 300 outboard COMPARISON on SAME TEST BOAT (Boat Tech) TOP SPEED TESTED
มุมมอง 100K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Here I compare the mighty 300 G2 and the 400R on the same 25 foot GRP test boat. The outboard is mounted on one of my own aluminium transom mounts (soon to be GRP). Both engines were purchased new and props selected with numerous test runs (three sizes were tried on each engine) Evinrude supplied by Golden Arrow Marine, Southampton Mercury supplied by Powertech, Portsmouth
Don't have that kinda extra money to burn for a 4 stroke outboard i will stick with my old 60's outboard any day. Simple to work on and they will out last my life time OMC outboards all the way. There are still so many OMC outboards still running on the lake where I live at.
I have a Yamaha 250 sho that is faster and lighter than any evinrude 300 😂
Commercial fisherman, i dont GAF about engine noise. I can't hear anything with an open top. That being said, the evinrude is not that loud. I can see the noise being an issue for pleasure craft. It is a shame evinrude gave up. I believe there is way more development to be had on 2 strokes. More power, less weight, less moving parts.
We have the 2704ET on our boat, no black smoke at all but we do have a bit of blue. Many say these old engines always smoke, so I should just get used to it…but that doesn’t make sense to my minimal mechanical knowledge!? Surely they weren’t designed that way, so something(s?) must be worn. Going through a process of elimination that another diesel bod very helpfully advised.
They were indeed designed that way, the “no smoke” modern way of thinking wasn’t a reality back in 1970-80
Finally some inline ford diesel love, the best ferd diesel engines ever built
Thankfully the Ford Dorset 360t in my boat is only a 150hp therefore I don't have to worry about the intercooler / aftercooler issue.
4.50 I could enjoy if we could just have the right terminology. I would really like to enjoy but your aftercooler s and intercoolers are mixed up so how can I enjoy?
3.58 aftercooler
3.55 aftercooler
3.46 twin aftercooled
1.20 aftercooled
30sec aftercoolef
If we could call water to air collers after coolers would be great thanks. Intercooling is air to air cooling. Si if we could get this right in the future my life would be less stressful. Thanks
a lot smoke like hell Mr D from Mr D
We meet again Luke on another channel 😂😂😂😂🤘🤘🤘🤘
They did not market them properly. I guess people get lazy and their money starts to dictate. Quick to check oil levels in the auto lube. You have to check your oil in your 4 stroke as well from time to time just like in your car as some oil do get consumed even in a 4 stroke.
HP?
Just found this channel, going to binge watch.
It’s the bloke from Dieselpump UK!
Bingo bucko
Qwantwz hp??
As an American I am very jealous... I want these engines in a truck lol
Back when grown ass men built good products.
it gets into which prop works better on that particular boat
nice
cowes yacht haven i think
Fantastic engines and boat had 3 x37 and 38 same never missed a beat 👍👍👊👊👊👊😁
2 Strokes were fun while they lasted; however, the 4 Strokes are so much better.
Very reliable tough engines even today. Dont even need anodes in them for salt water use
All the comments of how great the Evinrude is /was. Envinrude went under because most consumers didn’t want them. Old 2 stroke tech, louder, smokier and less reliable than the 4-strokes especially the Japanese 4-strokes. Good luck getting parts for your unreliable Evinrude now too. Now BRP trying to bring it back in a Rotax. Another failure on the way….
Video perfectly shows how utter shit 4 stroke outboards are. 1/4 more power yet standing start the 4 stroke just makes a differne noise and boat goes nowear.... whilst using more fuel. What a great joke
Possibly it's a loop flow cyclinderhead a la Cummins M11. Do you think inline engines with cross flow cylinderheads make good marine engines if everyting has to be on one side? Nice video, enjoyed it.
*loop flow
I enjoyed that 👍
but can that pump go on a 606 I wonder...
They stopped doing those for emission regulations , otherwise they were the best
Not true. The Evinrude g2 has better emissions than any outboard even being built today
Fully agree. 2x 90 hp e tecs on my boat and they do not smoke at all. Love them
G2 was almoust great, had 2015 250 H.O. And it was very powerful, fuel efficent, clogged like old carbureted motor when run at slow speeds, was on warranty repais 9-times in 5-year warranty period propably it had faulty EMU from begginnig and they didi not find it until 4-year. Every summer it blackced out everything from instrument panel and Code 20 communications lost ,everything worked but all data lost. It got kind of old when season ended my boatt was took for repairs and at sprig all crap was seen again. Lost faith for motor and sold it.Electrical issues were common with those, when it worked ,was superb :)
this guy sounds like the dieselpunk uk om606 guy... is this the guy?! **EDITED** SON OF A BITCH! IT IS! SUBBBBED
Lol I was also thinking why this guy sounds so familiar...
It's sad that it took these disgusting liberals to force shut down the plant during covid.. liberals destroy everything
When you compare noise, G2 is not at cruise, it's at 5300rpm while merc is at mid power.
The 400r you tested has a sport master lower unit on it. That is much less efficient than the standard gear case unless your motor is on a boat that runs above 85mph or so. It's for avoiding prop blow out. When you trim the motor to get top speed out of her it becomes more inefficient than the one on the evenrude outboard . It scrubs speed off of top end of the Mercury. Not a great comparison because of those variables.
G2 is garbage.
Merc needed a steeper prop for more speed. E-Tec will have maintenance/parts issues as it ages. Merc!
2 stroke will return soon!
Only in your dreams..
Whilst the evinrude cost less. Mercury bought them out..
Mercury didn’t buy them out they wouldn’t buy garbage, Evinrude imploded due to old oil burning technology..
BRP screwed up a good engine technology. Hope this engine comes back
Nah, it’s old tech that no one wants, reliability not so great either.. Merc #1
@@spinfish1434 old tech ? 4stroke new tech? Hahaha 😆
@ Etec = 💩 🤣
The G2 was a lot of power in a small package. It wasn’t an option when I bought my boat a year ago. But Alumacraft is owned by BRP and had a lot of G2’s on their boats. I still would have wanted a four stroke. They just couldn’t make 2 stokes quiet enough. Love my Zuke.
those dumb ass frogs in Quebec getting rid of those Evinrude's! Stay away from BRP products, buy Mercury Brunswick marine boats! Polaris water craft, snowmobiles and atv's!
Dude the one is a 2t motor and the other one it’s a 4t motor
That’s impressive spd for a 5000 lb cabin boat. I’ve heard the g2 etec r less problematic than the g1. But that’s interesting only 1mph gain on the 100hp more 4stroke. I guess if the weight on the boat was bumped to 7000lbs the etec would’ve loose more top end & the merc would show its rated hp then.
20% Vat. Geez im glad I live in the USA. 3% sales tax where I live.
