Love these comments. This one has been tough at times. Jesus told him to do "the task" and Come, follow me. But before he said this, Mark so importantly points out that Jesus was moved with love. So we know Jesus wasnt trying to make things difficult for the man. The man, who felt he himself was good, needed to see it wasn't what he could do, but who he loved. He didn't understand that in his heart, the first and greatest commandment was the one he had a problem with. So Jesus put his finger on the problem with compassion. The man heard "Do this" , but Jesus said, "Love Me". It's a great lesson about our own blindness about the things we love in our lives, allowing them to compete for our focus. Please pray for me

Ok, I've finished the video now and I just wanted to say, I was teaching the twins about the word "perception" and how perception varies from person to person based on what one knows and has been taught. I think what you guys say about resting in God is so important, because it from that rest that we begin to know Him. And in that knowing our perception of scripture changes. We begin to see that it ALL points to Christ. What he did, what he is doing, and what he will do. None of that depends on us. If it did, we would surely screw something up.

Honestly I have always been a bit confused by Jesus' response in this scenario. The young man seemed genuine. He seemed to really want the truth, and it almost seems like Jesus offered him a works based salvation. I know other places in scripture we are told things similar to leave all things and follow him, and if we don't love him more than all the things we hold dear, it's not good enough. It is hard to understand why Jesus isn't more clear. Like why wouldn't he say I have everything you need and more. Your deeds will never be enough. What I am offering will satisfy and purify and make you into the thing you are meant to be... come and taste and see... instead he gives him a task to perform... FYI I followed the instructions to pause the video and answer.. lol God bless you guys in your efforts to share the truth!
