The FlyOverLand Podcast
United States

Gregory Thomas Jeffers is an author, farmer, self-reliant homesteader-and the president and Elder of the American Quaker Friends Church. A direct descendant of hundreds of other early American Quakers (and non-Quaker settlers like Bartholomew Applegate and John White of the lost Jamestown settlement) who set in motion the ideas-especially Freedom of Speech and Religion-that would shake the world and bring forth the birth of the United States. I am proud of my ancestors, and I am proud of my country.
Contrary to the Hollywood narrative, America did not begin at Ellis Island! The huddled masses yearning to be free sought the liberties the English settlers worked, fought, and often died for. Our nation started to form in the early 1600s. Our ancestors risked life and limb on an ocean voyage that many would not survive on wooden sailing ships and endured unimaginable hardships upon landing in America. I am proud of our ancestors, and I am proud of the nation they built.

The Socioeconomic Realities of FlyOverLand
There are hundreds of thousands of members on the various "Homesteading" (there is no such thing as "homesteading") groups on social media/FB-and ZERO homesteading communities with the critical mass required for inter-generational stability.
And if there is no inter-generational stability, what is the point? The point for the pretenders is virtue signaling. Whenever you hear "perma-culture" or "regenerative agriculture," check your pants' pocket for your wallet and break out your B.S. meter-because your B.S. meter will be deep in the red zone.

Off-grid lighting with a propane/gas mobile mantle lamp.
มุมมอง 12221 วันที่ผ่านมา
Off-grid lighting doesn't have to cost thousands for a solar array. This gas lantern on wheels is powered by a 20# propane tank (but could be powered by natural gas) and rolls well on wood floors to where the light is needed. The lamp produces 10k -15k BTUs of welcome heat during the dark winter months when artificial light is needed most.
A Visit to the Local Sheep, Goat, and Pig Auction
มุมมอง 16921 วันที่ผ่านมา
My good friend and neighbor wanted to buy a hog from the local "small livestock auction." The auction takes place in our community every other Thursday where local farmers sell their livestock to (mostly) people from the community. Many people out in FlyOverLand prefer to home butcher their meat rather than buy it a Big Box Store. 10 years ago, this auction might have had less than 100 sheep/go...
This is a MUST with a new woodstove
มุมมอง 647หลายเดือนก่อน
Don't wait for the first cold day of the year to fire up your new wood stove. ALWAYS do the first burn with all of the windows and doors open, and if possible do the first burn outside (not always possible). Your new stove has excess oil (to keep rust at bay) and paint that will smoke you out of your house if you don't follow this procedure.
Dropping Big Trees
มุมมอง 221หลายเดือนก่อน
Several large trees threatening our barn had to go. A team of local forestry entrepreneurs arrived at FlyOverLand Ranch and took care of business. I am often asked, "how do you make money while 'homesteading?''" The short answer-besides working forestry like these young men-is one doesn't make money "homesteading." You reduce expenses when you produce your own water, firewood, fruits, vegetable...

The Reason Americans Don't Eat Their Pets

A visit to the local livestock auction and stockyard and our pastures where livestock are raised to feed Americans so that we are not reduced to eating our pets. All of us are but five or six missed meals from desperation. We must be grateful for the abundance we enjoy.

We bought an Amish farm some years ago and just bought another. These properties come with challenges-they are built for a life profoundly different from the one most Americans tend to imagine-but we will surmount these challenges. On the other hand, these sort of properties have all of the infrastructure a family needs to live off-grid if they so choose.

You can buy a 20 lb propane tank, a propane lantern, and a propane tree which you can screw your lantern to the top of, and even hook up two additional hoses to run a stove and a heater, for the same price as a liquid fueled lantern. I personally prefer single mantle lanterns because I think they put off enough light, and with a two mantle lantern if one mantle gets damaged you can't replace it without destroying the other one. Another fun thing with this setup is that you can turn off the gas at the propane tank and it will continue to run for about half a minute as you leave the room. Of course this will mean that the lantern will not light up immediately the next day.
What type of hardwoods did they use for the wood floors and cabinets?
IDK. Good question. When I see the seller's BIL (he still lives here) I will ask.
@@theflyoverlandpodcast7663 thanks, I'm just curious because it looks well built and timeless
The inside is nice and open! Beautiful country just needs a paint job!
How do you get away without a septic system?
We will put one in, but they are not required of the Amish, Mennonite, and other Peace churches in the county.
Smoke pipes are assembled with the pointed end inside the smoke pipe below. Condensation can occur, which runs down the inside of the smoke pipe, the liquid will not seep out of the joints, as it will the other way around.
Yeah... I thought perhaps at the stove joint I could do it that way, but I've been informed that isn't a good idea. Thanks for your thoughts.
So pretty I would love to have a nice farm
What state is this in What did you get it for
we are in South Central KY. There is a lot of small farm property in KY available and it is very reasonable. Not cheap... but reasonable.
And many now are having the scales fall from their eyes to earnestly pursue such a life where they are at present. May they remain steadfast in doing so, by the strength of the Lord. In Joy
Beautiful
Yes, indeed.
THIS IS 100 % BS!!!! PLENTY OF USA CITIZENS DUMP THIER USED UP HORSES PETS INTO SLAUGHTER HOUSOES AND AUCTIONS. LOOK AT THE AMIISH THEY DO ITMP ALL THE TIME. HORSES, DPPGS, CATS, ETC.
You lost me. What are you trying to say? Please collect your thoughts and express your ideas so that I might understand and respond properly.
Keep up the good work
Thank you. Indeed, we will.
How much did you purchase the house for? Are you able to get a conventional loan or do you have to buy the house cash ? I’m sorry if I missed it but what state is the home in? I’m very interested in buying an Amish house myself, but not sure about all the details and how it would be able to get a loan. Thank you for your video and I hope to see a comment back. Thank you.
I think it is difficult to buy one of these with a conventional loan. At my age, I don't borrow money. I am a Friend (Quaker). We frown on such complications and insist when possible that our men get to work early in life and get out of debt by 40.
@@theflyoverlandpodcast7663 thank you 🙏🏼 currently in Southern California and looking for a more humble and meaningful life away from the chaos. It is hard to survive here when the cost of living is much higher than our wages. What a blessing that would be for me to be debt free, which is why I would like to move out of state and then sell my home to no longer be tied up
Why did they sell were they forced to sell their farm???
I see many on Zillow. I think some just decide to move on.
Are you going to put electricity on the farm?
Yes. I will connect to the grid. But we won't put in a central HVAC system. We call it grid-lite. Without an HVAC system, the Elec. bill is almost a non event.
Please please please don’t ever think of using horses 😢😢😢
😂😂😂😂
Horses are very good to use
Put lawn mower in out side of commercial building
About your wood stove, have been a chimney sweep for 33 years. All stove pipe goes male into female, that way all the creosote runs down inside the pipe.
Yeah... several people in the community said the same. Not my best idea.
Why did the family lose their farm? Surely they didn’t decide to just up and sell for something better.
They moved to be near family in MO.
The Amish sell their land?? Don't they pass it down through the generations??
The Amish buy and sell land to the highest bidder like anybody else.
the majority of Amish farms & families near me would never sellout... Mason-Dixon as a matter of fact more Amish are buying up the farms owned by non-Amish ... 5 farms within the past 2 years. I totally respect the Amish.. 🌾🕊️🩵🦋
I find it odd as well. Wonder what the circumstances were. Shunning perhaps? With 10 kids, you’d think one of them would want it.
@@drewblack749 Nothing like that. The family was reuniting in MO.
What part of south central ky? I had lived in Cumberland County 90-98
Glasgow is the nearest city.
@theflyoverlandpodcast7663 been there many times!, that was our closest Lowe's and Walmart. When I first moved there lived 3 miles from marrowbone
Looks good guys
Thanks for watching. There is a lot of work ahead, but that's how we roll.
How man acres are on this farm?
25. It's really a homestead, but these properties function reasonable well for a family.
Very cool place not many places like it left as more and more farms get bought up by big developers who want big neighborhoods and apartments and businesses built. as more and more farmers struggle to make a profit.
Thanks for stopping by. There are challenges to be sure in rural America. But there are lots of small towns and small farms waiting to be resettled. I think they will be, eventually, though it will take a different socioeconomic model than the one most Americans now tend to imagine. I remain hopeful!

It all seems rather sad to me. Thinking that if one restricts oneself (and those around you) from outward things, like electricity and plumbing and motorized vehicles, that one will have a pious and holy INNER life? Sin is IN the flesh, and virtue must be exercised and developed in the *thought-life,* within, not based on the outward things that surround us, and the struggle between virtue (i.e, the life of Christ, the Christian life) and sin and vice in the flesh is an INNER BATTLE, the same one Jesus Christ fought. One can deprive oneself of all manner of outward things, and still be full of lust, bitterness, resentment, envy, etc., and be able to hide those things from others, but not God.
Some of what the fundamentalist religious groups (not just Anabaptist) have a cult flavor to outsiders. OTH... they have an average of 10 chidlren vs our 1.5, no divorce, no addiction, no domestic violence, no homeless... Everything has a cost.
Friend, thank you for sharing your guidance. Can I ask a question? I mean, no disrespect. I notice you title yourself "President - American Quaker Friends Church." Yet, reading your work, I know you are committed to equality. In all the meanings of "president", I have found, it denotes the power to "preside over an organized body of people" or "chief executive". Historically, we have used Elders and Overseers, but I have never heard of a Quaker President other than Nixon. I am interested. I understand the American Quaker Friends Church elected you, but are there other reasons you are using "president"?
American Quaker Friends Church is a TM of the Quaker Universalist & Unitarian Church, Inc., a Florida non-profit. Non-profits must have officers. I am the "president." That is the extent of my "authority." I also refer to myself as "Elder." That's the person who gathers volunteers and sets the task at hand. We need volunteers desperately, if you are available, please email me at AmericanQuakers at proton dot me (not dot com!). If anyone else wants that job-there is no compensation, it is volunteer work-I am getting on in years and hope someone will step up soon. There are some things we need: Food items that you can send from Amazon, like rice, beans, and other dried or canned foods. Diapers, feminine products, fasteners like nails.and screws. And cooking utensils. So, if you can't show up, send me an email and I will inform you which items we need most now.

was today years old when introduced to Roger Williams and Friends. Freedom of thought like a lot of safety protocols is written in blood. My love of history brought me here with a little guidance from our Creator.... or vice versa Freedom of religion was born out of innate human curiosity about the world primitive people lived in but good ideas are countered by many a mediocre mind. what it boils down to is that primitive doesn't mean mediocre, the mediocrity was produced by the ruling elites. Should be part of curiculum; Brave New World out there. 🤙🤙happy holydays and blessings

To validate this, Presently just look at government sponsored housing and its inhabitants whom have children and neglect them…leaving rearing to the politicians. Be well…later

As a father of a daughter and a grandfather to a granddaughter I agree with what you said regarding the importance of having a family as the key to establishing something to base your life on that is lasting and not ephemeral. The nuclear family evolved into the nucleus of all societies for a reason. Great video!
Thanks for the feedback! And Mazel Tov on the new granddaughter!!!
It's kind of amusing that a country like Saudi Arabia is well prepared for the future in regards to future generations than in the West. Perhaps the great world religions that have survived for 3,000 years have a thing or two to say about the preservation of their human societies whereas the sexually free civilizations of Ancient Greece and America don't... It's also a reason why we should bring in immigrants to compensate for low fertility, especially in Middle America. I'm a Gen Zer who used to be on the left before I realized how desperate and authoritarian woke American elites are trying to suppress Conservative and moderate political thought using Trump as a scapegoat (although I still dislike Trump for what he did in the last year of his presidency).
I encourage people to reject participating in national or international politics-unless you are running for Congress, the U.S. Senate, or Governor. We are trapped in a Bernaysian indoctrination camp-unless you unplug from it. Each individual is better off seeing to his life, family, and home, and trying to extend that into a genuine community of cooperation and mutual assistance.
thank you once again for a Point of view in which we don't hear too often lately. We used to. But it is faded. One thing I would reflect in this video is if I was going to Mars who would I take. If you do not take those who have Lifelong experiences and have run the marathon as you put it you're doomed to failure they be old but But an integral part that is necessary to build a functioning society. You need the ones that will lead and teach whether they are young as Jesus was when he first began to teach or as old as Moses. if it's words have value and are given to him with the teachings of God Almighty then that is a worthy person. Thank you once again for this video. love the end video of the sheep . Too many people nowadays are like those sheep very easily to lead very easily to scare.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the matter. Yes, a Mars colony-and a nascent intentional community-would need some people of age and wisdom. Goodness knows wisdom is in short supply in this epoch.
Is the community house for couples only or marriage-minded singles as well?

I agree with you that parents need to be part of the solution. Unfortunately unless you are removed from our toxic American culture, our youth will be influenced strongly by our present aberrant society. I had my first child at 20 and two more at 34& 35. It isn’t only that fertility decreases with age but birth defects increase. I was in my 20s when feminist movement began. The basic appeal was that women weren’t treated fairly. And many weren’t treated fairly. Not at home. Not in the workplace. When men did their jobs, To provide not only income but a good example, to lead but not dominate. - then feminism would have become a fad. But if men do not step up and women appreciate it, then society will never regain balance. Yours, Cousin Penny
Yes, indeed. I advocate that we re-tribalize/regroup/re-family/re-community ourselves.

Greg I played that Japanese movie clip repeatedly and still can't decode what they are saying? Was it simply what you say afterwards about cherry blossoms falling off the branch ( which was a very true observation)? Or something else? Hard, yet real, truths in this video. Thanks!
Never mind! I just figured it out!
The lesson of the cherry blossom is that life is tough and short with moments of pure joy (like youth and beauty). Everyone has these moments. In the west there is a saying that "every dog has his day." The ideas are close. The clip has the man's dialogue (paraphrased): "When life goes well we must be thankful. It is a temporary gift. We are not owed anything. And, eventually, we will shrivel up and die."

It's like the Third Rail of American politics. "Though shalt not speak of any limiting issues that might defeat our silly propositions."
What an amazing and disgusting opening video clip!
The political sensibilities of Americans suffering from mental illness gives incentive to The Cabal to do everything possible to decrease their well-being. Encouraging sexual deviance, obesity, and criminality, et al.-all present in force among these poor souls-is harming them terribly.
