CAR PARK CARNAGE KNEE DOWN!!! Honda CBR125 Freetech Race Series EP7 - Engine Rebuild - Fresh Slicks
Ive just brought one on Friday on a 2002 with 2658 miles from new on it. The chap has had it in his kitchen for 12 years , and it’s immaculate. Just got to service and mot it
can it be honed and recoated like they do with nickel plated bores
The rust has gone through the coating, you can feel a recession into the bore. So a re bore then coating and new pistons would be way to refurb this block. Which is just too much money for me
@@gingerbreadbikers have you looked into the cost of it then. the only other answer is to try find a good engine cheep but that my be hard. and with out pulling it apart to know for sure its good. hope you find a way
@@nick1012ish Have been looking at +1 and +2mm big bore kits from the States Wiseco and JE hold them, thats $1500 for hardware then machining costs when it arrives. But it would be a quicker engine. I am talking to a couple of people that have SC28 projects that run which I may buy to use as a donor. Not really interested in buying an engine without seeing it run! Cant afford another bad engine!
Remove The pistons and use a glaze buster on the bores
The rust patch feels recessed. So I think a honing tool wouldn't touch it! Nice idea though
Had the same sort of thing. I cut my losses and sold it. But stick with it mate ❤
Sorry to hear about the barrels. But I would have thought you would be able to find some decent used barrels on line. The engines on eBay are possibly just dirty and fine internally. If this is not possible perhaps you could hone or rebore the original barrels and get them re-coated if necessary? I had a similar problem with a ZXR750 and I replaced the barrels with second hand items successfully. If you try to use the barrels as they are or locally rework the surface it will burn oil. I wouldn’t feel down about it as it’s a common problem on old machines sat unused for years. It’s also a nice project you’re working on and definitely a worthwhile motorcycle to restore. I know it’s perhaps easy for me to say but the enjoyment you were and will continue to achieve is more important than thinking about the cost. Good luck 🤞
Thanks for your comment Ian! The current engines online I can see either have big ally weld repairs to cases, RTV silicone hanging out of gaskets or nasty purple anodised aluminum bolts holding them all together. They all look like a bit of a gamble to be honest. And I can't afford to buy a dud, it has to be a good engine if I do go down that route. Alternatively stripping this down and find a company to rebore and replate is another option. May need new pistons and rings after these have been run on a rusty bore. Wouldn't surprise me.
Having listened to the whole video through I realise you have the sc33 model ,but I can look into the options for you as we have many connections in classic field , Is it the just the barrel your not happy with or are there a number of issues your not happy about in the current engine , mileage , gearbox , cams , crank etc ?
It's definitely an SC28 model. You can tell that because it has a singular mounting bolt for the petrol tank front bolt. And the bronze forks and the frame bracing by the yokes. I am not happy with the liners. No doubt the rings have taken a battering. And I doubt the pistons are very happy. The head, gear box and rest of engine are in very good condition for age.

Great Bike, Great Ride and that Cadwell Park looks like an incredible amount of tech fun over in BritainLand Here in DutchLand we have Zandvoort, Assen and many other smaller tracks. But none like Cadwell Park. Not sure how long Zandvoort is going to allow bikers run that track. Each year we get less and less time slots to ride. We are too loud, too dangerous, too politically incorrect etc. Yet younger riders need that track time. To become better riders and develop the right mentality.
We have about 10 big tracks in Britain. Some fast some small some narrow some wide
Saw that advertised on facebook marketplace you must of grabbed it quick 😂
Haha small world!
@@gingerbreadbikers I wanted to buy it 🥲

Bargain, great choice. Enjoy 😎
Thanks mate can’t wait to ride again this year
3200 for a clean, basically ready to ride new toy? you found a gem of a sale have fun trying to tame that thing
I have had the engine open and cam chain tensioned had failed, new chain and tensioner and valve clearance adjusted and it’s back together. Still has a small noise from bottom end now I think but will live with it and see
Well done lads, you give my mate the knee sliders I was the other one there, I also did a vid on it it was a good day out, still on the look out for a cheep cbr125 I can build over the winter
Mega mate, glad you got some use out of them! See you out there

Hello Cruz, thank you for Liking the video! It's Ryan!!!
Yes indeed, the Nitron R3 is about £800. There is also the YSS with remote reservoir for a bit less money. The forks can be readily upgraded with K-Tech piston kits in OEM cartridges. At the moment it's money holding things up. But she will have posh suspenders one day!
you could try a Nitron for the shock.
Hi what tires and sizes did you use ?

great video. i was hoping to see one of my zzr1400's on sale. i have a gen 2. im hoping to take a months holiday in 2024 and rent one. visit japan via motorcycle.
I have rented a Yamaha Tracer 900 from a dealer in Japan. I had a native friend with me who made the transaction alot smoother. The roads are the best I've ever experienced. The people and the food are just lovely. I would recommend Mount Fuji. But to be honest everywhere I went was amazing. The really quiet back roads were the best for me!
Excellent stuff, enjoying watching you do this. It's going to be a cracking track bike
Appreciate it!
Mine an 03 and has 48,000 and running strong
the flat edge on the exhaust might be what is called a 'D' i have a good friend who builds the top engines for the 250/350/500 classic TT bikes and he adds these in, apparently its for back pressure, stops the fresh fuel/air rushing out the exhaust in the slight overlap between the inlet opening and outlet closing. the flat edge might be something someone tried adding in to it? Just a thought. I can tell you know more than me watching this buuut its something I was getting told about recently :) Looking forward to seeing this getting some laps in
Yes you are absolutely right, the exhaust port shape is a D. Sat on its flat edge. All the ports have this D shape. Except for cylinder 1. Which had a small amount of flashing along a casting line edge, protruding into the flow. I had to file down port one to be equal to 2-4. So I'm confident I didn't file away something Honda intended.
did you pull the choke when starting it first time, they like a bit of choke
Always x
Looking forward to the next installment
Don’t think that noise is your wheel bearings more likely to be the chain and front sprocket teeth when you’re spinning the wheel backwards but I could be wrong though
the comms made this to annoying to watch.
Completely agree, we are still learning and have now fixed the issue with a better microphone. Unless you mean just we were annoying haha
hahaaa dont know what on earth this is but fuckin yh
seriously??? the dash is easy to operate, just google aprilia rsv mille dash functions & there is no end to the instructions on how to use it.
Unless you know how to use it I find it very unintuitive personally.
Good luck with this, if it helps I had the same sort on a ST1100, and the best reward when u first start it up!Do it!
Mine is a grey import bike, the imports had the Yamaha tuning fork logo on the tank rather than Fazer or Yamaha
Haha ya ain’t getting ya knees down on a Mille at that speed mate
Haha of course not. But the commentary is entertaining
Aprilia rsv and Tuono rear brakes suck but honestly the front can throw you over the bars I had a few of the bikes
Yeah front brake is good compared to standard jap bikes of the era. Check out my video of Mallory for a brake review!
Cool ! good luck with the rebuild, looking forward to see how it competes with the Mille!
Good luck with the restoration, bikes of this age are great, but becoming almost impossible to get parts for (actually impossible in some cases with some parts). I have a 23y/o ZX9r, awesome bikes that they should do a modern version of imo, much better looking than a lot of modern machines, and just as quick, just not as fast, but who needs it to be!
Agreed. Old bikes are so raw to ride. No traction control, no driver aids, no abs!
What other bike can you get for 2 to 2500 to top the fazer, you can't there isn't one.
🍀 "Promo sm"
More petrol station faffs please, looked a good run out 👍
I was there on my first track day … I was on a red vtr with nobby on the back of my leathers I can’t see me anywere haha
Congratulations looks great 👍 have fun be safe
So you basically found a piece of crap. 😂 You can go to the Arizona motorcycle junk yard and find crap like this all day.
Nice!!!❤❤
Check out the rest of the series!
Did he say it might start and only has 7000 track miles, great, must know what he is talking about then ! Wouldn't spent much on a 94, if its free then OK but not sort after at all so watch the budget imo
It was a free bike! Just needs going over fully…
That 16 inch rim up front was a nightmare 😮
