Thank you Part 3 - How to say Thank You
100 years ago the First World War ended, and a new world began. The example and experience of those who lived through it shaped the world we live in today. In 2018 The Royal British Legion is leading the nation in saying Thank You to all who served, sacrificed and changed our world. We are inviting our members and supporters to take part in a movement to say ‘Thank You’ to the First World War generation who served, sacrifice and changed our world. My Grandad Thomas George Murphy was a radio officer on various Atlantic & Arctic Convoys, he was 19 when war broke out, and was subjected to some horrendous scenes and situations. I have lot of his WW2 possesions and paraphernalia including paperwork listing communications and co-ordinates of fellow ships in the convoys that had been torpedoed, as well as at the time, top secret radio communications documents with unique codes for signalling from the MONSTERS convoy and some amazing transcriptions of the daily news which he would recieve in morse code, transcribe and read out to the ships crew, its amazing amd heartbreaking to see what he went through on a daily basis. He never spoke about it, I found most of this out at his funeral and when I inherited all the paperwork after his death in 2014. Safe to say as a 40 year old man myself, we just didn't know we were born compared to what these heroes went through. Leaves me more determined than ever to fight to the death for the freedoms which are now being taken away by our current day meglomanic political class. The Merchant Navy were the unsung heroes of WW2 and their courage should never be forgotten even though we now face the prospect of communists trying to rewrite history.

Jim Simpson, at times during this excellent piece of history, his face shines with love and affection, and extremely authentic precious memories. What a person, what a representative of the Finest generation to ever grace the planet. Under the term 'Heroic' it should read Arctic Convoy Vetrans; with a sub-heading saying see Jim Simpson.

My grandfather from Liverpool was a merchant seaman based in Murmansk for 2 years after his second torpedoing in the Atlantic convoys, he operated a Samson and atlas crane similar to the mersey mammoth, he used to pull a pontoon out of the port and unload arms and vehicles and pull it back in to the port and unload. RIP MY REAL HERO 💖💖💖
